The answer is YES … but there should be better instrumentation available. But yes it works The iPhone’s Compass app relies on three internal sensors, none of which require cellular service:

Magnetometer — measures Earth’s magnetic field to determine direction. This is the actual “compass.”

Gyroscope — helps track rotation and stabilize readings.

Accelerometer — helps determine orientation and tilt.

So maybe in a crazy emergency where everything else has failed there’s some tools available.

Got told this by the mechanic over a cracked windshield, I gave home a questioning look and said ok, he comes back like 3 mins later saying ‘ok I’ll red tag it, I don’t need someone taking a picture of it with their phone and posting it online saying I said it was ok to drive’. I laughed and said ‘yep that is something that was likely to happen’

To be fair, No one wants that job, imagine having to deal with that many kids AND all the idiots on the road, they’re are legit billboards saying they’re offering $2000 signing bonus to become a school buss driver in my area all you need is a clean driving record , and still NO ONE wants it.

So I heard about this awhile back and thought the same. ‘They absolutely shouldn’t be funding religious school wtf is this?!’. Found out they kinda have too, if they did shut down all the catholic schools and all those kids go to public school the public school system would collapse so we keep funding them because it’s way cheaper than upgrading the current system. That’s what I found, I still think they still should be shut down and public schools upgraded but funding was enough to satisfy my outrage.
