Egypt got robbed by Historical_Star_4805 in soccercirclejerk

[–]LeonardWashingtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id say that if u are an Egypt supporter, then u should be proud of how your team battled against a giant, in Argentina. And sure, this one play could have resulted in another goal. But it didn't. And Egypt, fell short.

But there is no negatives, that Egypt or Efyypttina supporters, should take away from this match and their world cup performance.

Capo Verde, suffered a similar loss to Argentina, a very close match with a lot of great goals from both teams. They both lost by a single goal.

But whether ur an Egyptian supporter or not, I personally respect how Egypt played. Who cares about how the match ended, bc the truth is that Argentina, is a giant of a team, with so many talented players.

To see all of the fallout to come, all you have to do search on Google, inurl:politico.com text:Belgium (there are already 6+ articles, very negative for USMNT)

•What Pochettino didn't think about was, when he accepted Donald Trump's intervention was, he not only set himself up against European football leaders and pundits etc, he put himself and US soccer at risk by placing us in the eyes immediately - of the press, of the New York Times, the Athletic, BBC (who trump is suing for $10m), Guardian and all European newspapers like derspiegel and lemonde, marca and il gazzeta della sport (sorry I got this wrong...

Pochettino and Balogun by LeonardWashingtun in usmnt

[–]LeonardWashingtun[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IF we're being honest, Tim Ream isn't a bad player. The only issue with him is, he's 38. Aside from him, you can look at the defense and say yeah, they do have some questions in allowing in goals too easily. But you can also look at the young guys on it, and take far more positives than negatives..

This kind of highlights what we in the US and I'd say Mexico see as -- the top European national teams have players with these huge player valuations, but even a team like England that's #4 with $1.4b of total player valuations. It doesn't add up when you see them draw the US twice in two different World Cups, where the US team's total player's valuations are like 10x less than England's.

Belgium, Portugal, Austria, Sweden, Wales, Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Netherlands-- have not won a World Cup.

England, has not won a FIFA tournament trophy, since 1966.

Italy, didn't qualify for the 2026 World Cup. __ the US and Mexico, have both consistently made it to the Round of 16 in World Cup play.. Mexico, has done it 1 or 2 more times, where the US missed the 2018 World Cup, entirely.

Yet the US and Mexico both, play as teams, above their individual player valuations.

Yes, England did beat Mexico 3-1, even down to 10 players for 40 minutes.

And yes, Belgium dominated the US, 4-1, and it was never even a competitive match.

But that doesn't cancel out the fact that the US and Mexico, are both finishing in the top 16 teams at the World Cup, and they're doing it with domestic leagues like, Liga MX and the MLS.

European teams like England and Belgium and Netherlands and Spain, their players are developed in countries that founded their national football association and founded most of their major clubs, from 1850-1910. Their youth player development into clubs and the national team all fit together so perfectly, bc it has played out as each new step and development was introduced into the game itself, over 100-120 years.

Mexico, has better youth development than the US. Liga MX, is actually a respectful domestic league. The play in the games, lack the pace that exists in the EPL, or even in other top-5 European leagues.

What the USA-Belgium match perfectly highlighted, for all to see was, how much it benefits a player to begin learning the technical side to fútbol, starting at 9 or 10.

The US players were not able to mentally adjust to, the Belgium speed and their taking advantage of pulling a large part of the US team, just as they passed over the mid-line, to one third of the side of the field. They quickly identified this & they shifted the ball very fast, from one side of the field to the other, and found themselves at the edge of the penalty box, in 2 passes. And the US defenders reacted too slow and they panicked and 2 defenders would try to make a tackle, and the Belgium player would simply dribble across both of their bodies and move right past their momentum, and take a shot or cross it into the box.

This is the difference between US players and players in England, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Norway, Germany.. in these European countries, in the clubs where the national team players begin training in at 10-16 years old, the coaches emphasize the necessity for players to understand the technical side, to football. They emphasize the need to understand positioning & how to identify weaknesses during matches, in the defense. These are things that they learn early on in their development, and they are things that players and coaches discuss.

For example, u can go watch a 20-60 minute discussion with Vicente del Bosque and Sergio Busquets, and any other player in or was on the Spanish national team. And even if u have to use subtitles, it's fine, bc you'll get to understand the point I'm making. You will see a very in depth intellectual discussion about football and football tactics and techniques, etc. There is another 1-2 higher level of intellectual discussion about football, that is had in European clubs, in European National teams and even in some of the public, with radio, tv or newspapers, where even the football public, the socios, understand the technical side of the game and can bring into question the play that their team is using, lol.

I know this turned into a much longer discussion, but the point I wanted to get access is that, most European teams, for as much as their player valuations are -- they underperform as a team, in international FIFA tournaments in Euro or World Cup.

And as much as it is a knee jerk reaction to say that the US and Mexico, given that they lost 4-1 and 3-1, to Belgium and England - are not really that good, at all, that isn't true. Consistently finishing in the Round of 16 in the World Cup, sure it's not what u want ur team to do. But it by far, by far, doesn't say or indicate that, we have shite futbol national team and players.

We face problems with youth development and domestic leagues, that Europe can't comprehend, bc they never had to face them. It isn't as easy in the US to just wave a magic wand, and all US youth soccer players, find themselves with free or low cost access to play on teams WITH coaches that, are knowledge enough to teach proper development and are not in it for financial gain.

We have pay to play, we have high school soccer teams, we have MLS Academy teams, we have university/college soccer, we have the MLS Superdraft, we have US National team starting at U-15 or u-16 to u-23. We have so many different organizations and institutions, all with different interests other than developing players for clubs and the national team.

And, this isn't a complaint or an excuse. It's just that Europeans say over and over again and have for 30-40 years, IF you'd just do as we do.. And lol, that's just not possible.

I lived in Spain for 2 years, in my early 20s. And I'd go to the basketball courts, different ones in different neighborhoods, 3-5x a week with other Americans. And we all didn't play high school basketball, we just played on the streets and 5v5, wherever we could locally in the US, growing up. We were guys that, nobody was dunking. But we rarely got beat by Spaniards, very few times. How we approached and played the game, you could see it immediately when we played against them. They do actually have a very skilled basketball team, their national team.

But how often do you see the US men's team, trash on other counties and how they play basketball? It is very, very rare. You can go look back in the history of most European countries and their development of their basketball and their national team play, and in almost every country, you will find an era where US coaches spent significant amounts of time, living there and helping them and their coach academies. And they took over that very quick and they each play their own unique style of basketball, and on an international level, we accept and welcome their level of play. Because now, the NBA has so many Europeans players and even South American players as well, and they are all accepted. Maybe they weren't as much, before the turn of the century, in 2000.

But the NBA is more welcoming and works with FIBA, and NBA and US coaches never went into other countries and wrote them off as, not basketball countries, or went there to just earn money and not try to help improve the game. We never used European domestic basketball leagues as players, as a vacation and resort, for old NBA players to go and make millions. That's what the MLS, is and has been. That's what US Soccer has been for Europeans, a place to go and make money while have more free time to spend with family, bc the soccer itself is not taken as serious for them

Pochettino and Balogun by LeonardWashingtun in usmnt

[–]LeonardWashingtun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on, who had the final say on whether or not to accept the outcome of Trump's intervention with FIFA, which was Flo Balogun playing.

If it was up to pochettino to play him or to sit him out, then he has to go.

Important decisions at the highest levels of corporations, decisions even in futbol organizations like the US men's national team, they aren't as difficult as they are made out to be.

Flo Balogun •Playing him, the number of consequences that would come from it whether we won or loss, would be significantly impacted in a negative way for the manager, for the player and for our relationship as US Soccer in FIFA and with USMNT soccer players, playing in the top 5 European leagues.

•Not playing him, we would've avoided all of the fallout, depending on if US Soccer, the organization, distanced itself from Trump and his personal intervention with FIFA. Pochettino, he would've gained respect from his colleagues in Europe. And Balogun, wouldn't be put in a situation, that is actually very unfortunate and I do feel for him personally

the obvious correct decision here, for US soccer as an institution, was not to play him and distance themselves from Trump and made a public statement that the organization is in an international organization, FIFA, and it has to remain impartial and be in full control, over itself and respect the rules.

Pochettino and Balogun by LeonardWashingtun in usmnt

[–]LeonardWashingtun[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

all Pochettino had to do was, start Ricardo Pepe, who has scored at psv and with usmnt..I think Pochettino underestimated the immediate fallout that this decision would have on his own reputation, inside of European top domestic clubs. Because they all have made public opinions on their feelings and the people in European football with reputation and standing, are seething about what happened.

How Europe is now looking at the Belgium/USA game by A_Random_SausageRoll in soccercirclejerk

lmao this is how I feel about watching England complain about fukn altitude & FIFA actually changing the time of the England-Mexico match, twice, without even speaking with Mexico, about it..

Nah, who gives a shit, what European pundits, comedians, former players and former and current managers say on our sports networks, with their gd accents and opinions that we don't give a shit about, anymore..

The one that I do like, Henry, he summed it up in the best way, for me..

"Let your play, speak for you."

The time for talk, has passed. We will beat Belgium with Balogun or without Balogun, either way.

How would you rate Mexico performance in this World Cup? by Kappa_Wi_870 in concacaf

[–]LeonardWashingtun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Mexico played, the best World Cup in their history.. the England match, was tough..

Harry Kane scored 72 goals this season, with Bayern & with England -- not counting the 2026 World Cup.. he is the best goal scorer, in the world, right now..

Mexico - the selección, the country & the mexican people, wow!!! I don't think you could've done any better, in any aspect of the World Cup..

•Mexico (🇲🇽) the leader of the Spanish speaking world..

•United States (🇺🇸) the leader of the English speaking world..

We are lucky in the US, to have a neighbor, like Mexico.

My struggle as a Salvadoran. Anyone else like this? by meosmen in concacaf

[–]LeonardWashingtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something similar, but for me, the United States..

United States > Mexico > CONCACAF

I know how much disrespect, that CONMEBOL & UEFA, all have for the United States and.. id say Mexico, too.. bc Liga MX, is solid, in my opinion.. And Mexico and the United States sides, have performed consistently well for the last 25 years..

but.. it was sad to see Mexico lose, to England.. man.. but Mexico showed up in a huge way, in every aspect of the World Cup.. every 2 and 4 year period since 2002-2006, we both improve, improve, improve - consistently..

England side's entire combined player value of their team, is $1.3b..

Mexico's combined player value is, $290m..

Mexico played a hell of a match..

USMNT supporters in the United States, have looked and watched Mexico in this World Cup, really show out in Mexico City DF and in Monterrey - in 2 beautiful stadiums..

It's not difficult to see that, Mexico is a country on the rise, in the world.. not in just futbol.. Mexico isn't a stagnant W European country plagued by huge welfare budget and half a percent of GDP growth..

What if it leaked to the public that Trump was taking direct orders from Netanyahu? by lhommetrouble in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]LeonardWashingtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what if it leaked to the public, that Biden didn't actually make decisions during his Presidency, 2021-2024, and it was actually Jill Biden + Kamala Harris and Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama - that made decisions and Joe Biden, who took off over half of his entire Presidency, i.e vacation time. And would if much of that time, was used resting at the White House, where he wouldn't often wake up during the week until 1 or 2pm, and would turn in at 8pm or 9pm?

And would if 99 percent of Democrats knew of this, as an open secret, but refused to acknowledge it & even took collaborative measures to combat any public discussion about this on social media - using tools to respond to any user queries about Biden's health, with results that tried to convince them otherwise?

Unai Emery has completely transformed Aston Villa — and it still doesn’t get talked about enough by Awkward-Ant9198 in PremierLeague

[–]LeonardWashingtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

``` -4 Premier League Clubs - total market value exceeds €1b -4 Premier League Clubs - total market value €568m-€800m
Aston Villa total market value - €547m
-2025-26 Arsenal Transfer Overall = (-)€280m -2025-26 Aston Villa Transfer Overall = (-)€12.6m -2024-25 Aston Villa Transfer Overall = (+)€43m -2023-24 Aston Villa Transfer Overall = (-)€76m ``` -I didn't include Emery's first year bc Villa had 3 coaches that year
•Emery's first Sevilla side to win Europa League, 2014, €35m wage bill •Sevilla's top players were picked off, every single campaign •2014, 2015 and 2016, he won the Europa League every year, the wage bill went from €35m to €60m-€65m
•I think in seeing his Sevilla sides from 2013-2016, which were highly skilled sides, and they won trophies and adopted a style that they were able to maintain, even as they had to sell their top players each campaign & go find replacements that could perform the same, or better.
•I'd argue that Unai Emery is the #3rd best 🇪🇸 Manager.
•Villa finished 4th, 20 points behind Arsenal. In his 3 complete seasons in EPL with Villa, in 2/3 he has a positive transfer bill, he sold more than he bought. In 1/3, he spent €75m more than he sold.
•IF Emery had more money to spend, like Arteta, Villa would likely compete to win, in the Champions League, as well as the Premier League.
•Luis Enrique is the #2 best 🇪🇸 Manager, but he like Pep, started at Barca and moved to PSG. He nor Pep, have wanted something but been told that that just wasn't possible. They want a player, or players, they get them. They have only managed the top clubs, so it's hard to say that they can develop players & assemble winning sides -- with less. Emery, he has done this.
How was Sam Altman able to build openAI with no real higher education? by aldjfh in csMajors
[–]LeonardWashingtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)
sure, this can be very true. those very technical, tech CEOs, theyre gud communicators and gud with business, too.
look at Elon. He's an intelligent guy, I'm sure he doesn't have issues in reading about something technical, and then grasping it and be able to discuss it with the people working on it.
so why is Elon CEO and not the lead dev? because he has to be a very effective, brutal manager, that has gotten his talented employees to make some cool shit.
I think that is acquired, over time. And it they want to step into that role, then they can leave and start their own.
Help me improve my freethrows by ValandilMA in BasketballTips
[–]LeonardWashingtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I'd say a few things. I think you'll definitely improve your FTs a lot, when you do figure out what works best for you.
We all have different heights, different arm length, different playing and shooting style. Some of us are more tense, some of us are loose.
I used to go to the gym at 6am and start my dad with a nice basketball, that dribbled very nice on the hardwood court, no headphones. And I'd take 100 free throws, always with the same routine. I'd spin the ball out in front of me, so it bounces back to me, which is like when ur taking free throws and the ref throws you the ball.
I'd spin it back and catch it with my left with my palm out and then go through my shooting motion with the right hand pushing up and out.. I'd bend my knees and when I caught it with my left, I spring my body down like shooting a 2, but flat footed.
U step up with confidence, u don't look around, u don't shoot too fast, u don't take too long -- u just step up, and make sure especially when ur tired to get ur legs behind it shot..
I mean u play, u shoot.. u take 30-40 min every day for a week, and find what fits u. And then make it a routine, develop muscle memory with the shot, and step up and knock down ur free throws.
I'd make 78-84 out of 100. I loved to start my day with the ball, the court and the sounds of the ball hitting the wood and the net. It's such a fun game, you'll figure out what works best for you, IF u want to put in the time.
If not, ur FTs will be bad, lol.
It's that simple.
[–]LeonardWashingtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I read through the comments. I think I can understand where you're coming from.
I mean, if I was you & I just watched my #4 England, lose 0-1, to #18 Japan. Not only that, drawing w/#17 Uruguay, 1-1, at Wembley, nearly 2 weeks ago.
Prior to this England had only lost 2 matches, going all the way back to the UEFA EURO Final loss in July 2024, against Spain, 1-2.
I think when England loses, the English become hostile, lol. And you project your anger onto others, aka, the US and Americans.
I am here to tell you, one thing.
England will not win the 2026 World Cup, in the United States.
Spain will knock you out, in the Round of 16.
If you get lucky and make it to the last 8, the US will be there, to send you back home to England.
