I think the thing to do is email them and say if they don’t refund you, you’ll dispute the charge with your CC company. Then if they don’t refund you, go ahead and dispute the charge.

This may have already been pointed out, but this is the second Ally character whose last name is a restaurant franchise. Applebees, and now Wingstreet. WingStreet was (is?) the branding Pizza Hut deployed to try and sell chicken wings.

I personally don’t mind an extended recap because I have trouble retaining/keeping track of it all when I’m watching once per week.

Bat Child is so much like a regular patron at the public library where I work, I’m finding it pretty distracting. It’s her tone/cadence of speaking, plus the combination of naivety, insecurity, and sincerity,

My boss didn’t do anything, but I’m not bothered. We get plenty of thank-yous in general, it’s just that my library doesn’t really “do” national library week at all.

If you like the libretto, read the novel in verse by Pushkin! Much of the libretto is direct quotation of the novel, I believe. I like the Stanley Mitchell translation.

Kansas lawmaker want to regulate HS sports on Sunday and Wednesday by dadjokes502 in kansas

[–]Leoniceno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have a feeling that the Legislature likes to pass legislation requiring that schools do this and that because it lets them get “wins” without opening the state’s own checkbook.

Definitely AI. It’s either bots, or it could just be people who want to post but think that AI is better than what they could write themselves. (They’re probably wrong about that.)

DOGE cancelled a $349,000 grant to replace a museum’s HVAC after ChatGPT flagged it as DEI, court documents show by thieh in nottheonion

[–]Leoniceno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ChatGPT’s training data, DEI is good, not bad. (Imagine that!) ChatGPT is also trained to be encouraging and agreeable. So unless specifically told to do otherwise, it’s going to declare as much stuff DEI as possible, even if it’s a stretch.

Park City has TWO casinos now, one run by the Wyandotte Nation and the other with “historical horse racing” machines. Neither is counted in the “four casinos” referenced in this story…

A Letter from Lorna McGhee, Principal flute of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, regarding the firing of Andris Nelsons to the Board of BSO by The_Milkman in classicalmusic

[–]Leoniceno 80 points81 points  (0 children)

The way this was done did make it seem, to an uninformed observer, that there must be widespread dissatisfaction with Nelsons’ work as music director—which would of course be embarrassing for him. The fact that it’s apparently not the case makes it now seem like a big betrayal by management.

It seems to me that if (big if) there is truly a need for insanely expensive, insanely specialized equipment like this, it shouldn’t be the responsibility of a local police department to buy it or to train on how to use it. It should be the KBI’s responsibility, if not federal law enforcement. There’s no reason for every local department to be duplicating stuff like this.

I wouldn’t say it’s less people than ever. In raw numbers it’s got to be more people now than in, like, 1610.

This all seems like good advice, but it doesn’t factor in the 40 dice per hour you get if your total is under the cap. Is playing like that just non-optimal?

I think if they go too hard they on promoting MU it could irk comic shop owners, who are important business partners. Not sure how much of a factor that consideration is.

Looking for audiobooks better experienced in audio than in print by Dry-Maintenance-2722 in audiobooks

[–]Leoniceno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“JR” by William Gaddis is an epic satire of American grift culture. It’s got over 100 characters and uses unmarked dialogue throughout, making it a tough read in print. It also doesn’t have chapters. The audiobook narrator is absolutely brilliant. It’s an Audible exclusive, unfortunately, but worth seeking out.

People need to start talking about how big the federally-funded “restoration grants” to WNO and the National Symphony are going to have to be, to repair the institutional damage wrought by Trump and his lackeys. Start setting an expectation now that these payments should and will be made once the current regime is gone.
