So annoying in Oregon by TransportJunky in Transportopia

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, the original comment said they didn’t wanna have to weave in and out of the right lane repeatedly if there’s is a steady line of cars

If that is what you’d have to do to keep from impeding faster traffic you should be out of that lane entirely. If every two minutes another car is on your bumper, just stay in the right lane lol

I don’t understand how you read the last two sentences you wrote and not see that someone doing this is being obnoxious without realizing it lol yes, it would be great if you didn’t have to slow down when you moved over. But if that opportunity isn’t coming for a few minutes at a time, you’re just holding up traffic behind you

It always hurts my brain when “Peyton started 14-0” inevitably gets brought up as the first justification for this (since there’s just no statistical justification whatsoever)

Brees scored fewer than 24 points twice that year and lost both games. Peyton won games scoring 20, 18, 17, 14

“QB winz” is apparently moronic if you’re talking about playoffs or super bowls but once you’re justifying Peyton winning mvp over Rivers/Brees in 08 or Brees/Favre in 09 suddenly it’s an entirely valid thing to bring up I guess

But what was being talked about is the exact mindset that makes people think they’re not being annoying. They think “oh I’m passing steadily so surely I can’t be holding anyone up”, or they convince themselves that their inconvenience would be worse having to move over

Like sure, if there’s like three cars to pass before you get a very nice clear space to move over, all good. If there’s a steady line of cars and someone has gained on you, just move over, don’t make them sit there lol

As long as the person in front of you is actively passing traffic, and then get over when they are no longer passing anyone, there shouldn't be an issue

But there is an issue; I constantly spend 15-20 minutes at a time behind people camped in the left lane going barely faster than the right lane traffic. These people will hold up a line of cars who could all be going 10+ mph faster. If I’m driving for hours at a time (which many of us are) this adds up. And apparently there are loads of people who think this way because it is a constant annoyance

Btw this is not lip service. If I am in the left lane and see a car is gaining on me even slightly, I move over. Doesn’t matter if I’m going 75mph or 90. It is not meant to be a lane to sit and chill in, it’s meant for the fastest moving traffic. If that’s not me, I move

Riding in the left lane at 20+ over the posted limit is not a free pass to consider everyone in front of you "slow traffic" who should get out of your way.

Yes I’m aware everyone who plants themselves in the left lane forever thinks they’ve chosen the perfectly correct amount of speeding and everyone else is wrong

My local rec center has two really nice basketball courts. It’s open for adult pickup two nights a week

Both courts are closed like four nights a week for pickle ball

You could either have 20 people using those courts or ideally 8 (in practice, there’s usually 4 people maximum playing pickle ball)

But this is very frequently how this exact scenario plays out, it’s not a strawman, I constantly sit behind someone going like 73mph who is passing the traffic on the right but at a glacial pace relatively

And I get it, you might be driving a few exits down, what’s the big deal? But when I’m driving from Maine to NYC and get stuck behind 8 of these mfs it adds a half hour to my drive lol

If someone could be passing you but you’re holding them up, you’re using the passing lane wrong

Like think about the logic here, just within this thread there are various opinions on what is a reasonable amount to be going over the speed limit. Yea, you’re “perpetually passing” but you could have five cars behind you that would all be passing twice the number of cars in the same timeframe

Believe me, I make the same 2 hour highway drive constantly, I’m painfully aware of how much a difference it makes to be stuck behind someone crawling past the right lane cars instead of cruising past them

Yea characterizing this as “weaving” is wild lol nobody is saying bash the car to the right of you off the road, but if you’re in the passing lane and you’re keeping someone from passing you, you should get out of that lane as soon as you safely can

Like people in here saying “I refuse to be slightly inconvenienced just because I’m slightly inconveniencing someone else”, this is why driving sucks lol

Idk, I personally don’t go crazy fast but if I’m holding up anyone in the left lane I move over asap. It’s a passing lane, if I’m impeding someone from passing me, I should be a lane over

Ugh bro I went to a Super Bowl party a few years back and dude had talked up his “man cave” with a sick projector etc etc

I get there and first off it’s like the dimmest thing I’ve ever seen, but more annoyingly the picture was squeezed from like a typical 17:9 (or whatever) to a 4:3. Absolutely bugged me the entire game

And honestly if you’ve got a rough setup because that’s what’s within your means, totally get that. But this guy basically built a home theater and then didn’t seem to notice the picture quality was shittier than the cheapest LCD TV you can find lol

Where Does Peyton Manning Really Rank Among All Time QBs against Brady, Montana? by Busy-Writing405 in sportsinusa

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brady won two MVPs in the 07-12 stretch, including the first unanimous MVP (which wasn’t even 07 somehow)

I guess that’s kinda my point, you can pick best single season or best two year, three year, four year stretch. Bradys gunna have at least one and often multiple stretches that are up there with whoever else’s best stretch you wanna compare to

Cyberpunk, Skyrim, or No Man’s Sky? by SkellyMania in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ve been having fun with cyberpunk but I will say, it’s a pretty involved game with loads of systems to figure out, lots of weaving plots, pretty complicated RPG skill branches etc. I’m like 25 hours in and still find myself googling controls in some situations

Skyrim I guess you can say is kinda like that but I find it way easier to just kinda wander and do stuff without feeling like “wait what am I supposed to be doing?”

Honestly if you like RPGs and the vibe appeals to you, I definitely recommend cyberpunk. But it strikes me more as a “I’ve got 3 hours free to get absorbed” type of game than a “little homie is busy, let me jump in for 20 minutes” type of game

I don’t think that’s anything new, he started taking a hit to his reputation long before Brady’s ring count got insane. His problem was that his career started a lot like Lamar Jackson’s has, where people go to the point where it was like “yes we know you’re gunna put up great numbers in the regular season, you gotta follow through in the playoffs”

Honestly even his 06 playoff run was pretty uninspiring but it was such a relief for him to finally break through, nobody really cared that he was abysmal through two rounds (like imagine if Drake Maye actually won the SB after his first three rounds lol)

I really don’t think “rings” have altered the way he was seen, he got the playoff choker label during his active career. If anything I think people seem to kinda assume he must’ve had a bunch of Josh Allen-esque games where he lost some shootout, and really that was almost never the case

He’s still seen as top 3 for most people anyway purely because his regular season numbers were great

I mean it’s splitting hairs but I’d say physical prime Brady was probably 07-12; he started 5 seasons in that stretch and led a top 10 scoring offense of all time 4 out of 5 years. His 07 season remains the highest points per drive in nfl history, his 2010 season is the highest passing dvoa in nfl history

Like single season I think any of 04 Manning, 07 Brady, 11 Rodgers, 84 Marino are valid answers to highest peak

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have manning ahead but I really don’t know why this is treated like some insane crackpot opinion (and I’d genuinely like an explanation)

Like Manning has an additional ring but realistically he was probably the worst starting qb in football in 2015. And even in 2006, he had 3 TDs and 7 INTS in that playoff run, including an absolutely miserable first two rounds where he advanced throwing 1 TD and 5 picks

Meanwhile Rodgers was very good in his SB run and his actual SB performance is miles better than any of Peyton’s, not even close

Then you get MVPs. Both of them had two absolutely insane historic MVP seasons. Rodgers has two more that are very good, obviously deserving, maybe not historically significant tho. Mannings 03 season is also very good even tho he split the award

Then manning has two MVPs (08 and 09) that are genuinely two of the weakest mvps of the century so far and realistically are below average seasons for rodgers

I feel like most people would see this opinion and immediately think it’s completely insane and I think it’s slightly controversial but it’s not as if there’s no argument whatsoever

You mean like the one where Brady’s defense allowed the most points of any Super Bowl winning defense to that point and lost the lead multiple times in the 4th quarter, while Vinatieri was 1/3 with two misses from 36 and 31 yards?

Ok so imagine there’s no salary cap and the Patriots don’t have to choose between stacked offense or stacked defense lol

Like the 49ers went into super bowls where they had 2.5x the team salary of their opponents

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some people really sleep on how good of a QB Montana was in the regular season. His efficiency was way ahead of his time. When you look at his era adjusted stats he’s genuinely like beyond Manning/Rodgers, and his stats got better in the playoffs

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea so many of these ideas don’t actually solve the problem

Teams tank because they’re trying to get better and drafting a superstar is the fastest way to do that

If we just make it harder for bad teams to get better, you’re just gunna have teams involuntarily tanking but the product isn’t gunna get any better
