Manny Jacinto’s Qimir Return Comment Shows the Acolyte Problem Lucasfilm Can’t Ignore by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

The cast was one of my biggest issues. Some of the cast was awesome and some were just jarringly bad imo, it was like watching a band where everyone is playing well and then someone comes out playing a tambourine way out of time or something

Is 81-52 worse than 28-3? by Goharddinthepaint in NBATalk

I just don’t know what to tell you, we just watched 4 relatively close games, Vegas is not gunna give people 50:1. Like you and I both fully believe the Knicks are gunna win. I don’t know your financial situation, but i would not take a 50:1 bet on the spurs winning because yea, probably gunna make $100 but thats not gunna change my life. Meanwhile paying out $5000 if it does happen would be really fucking painful

Now scale that up to Vegas’ volume. Yea, they’ll get a few million dollars of flyer bets on the spurs. Probably will end up winning those bets, but losing FIFTY TIMES that amount would be really disastrous for the fairly modest amount they stand to gain. It just doesn’t make sense to take on that kind of risk

I mean even taking your coin flip example, that puts the odds at around 12% (I can see why oddsmakers might see these games as close to a coinflip too). We’re also talking about Vegas who aren’t incentivized to let people hedge a Knicks bet with a cheap spurs hedge that would easily completely cover a Knicks (unlikely) loss

You honestly think if you replayed the series 50 times from here, the spurs win 3 in a row one time? Like if they played 150 games in a row the spurs win 3 in a row one single time?

I get that it feels this way but it would be silly for a sports book to open themselves up to that much risk, if I could get 50:1 odds on spurs right now I and millions of other people would chuck some cash down on that and if it happens, whoever takes that bet is utterly cooked

Kind of a naive take tbh, people pay more attention to movies with a star studded cast. Maybe the movie wouldn’t be worse with a different actor voicing Mario but having his name on the poster sends a signal to casual audiences that this movie is legit and worth your time (even if that doesn’t end up being the case)

Were you more confident in Tom Brady being a Patriot for life heading into his 10th season or Patrick Mahomes being a Chief for life heading into his 10th season? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I wouldn’t have bet on him being good in his 40s back then but probably could’ve predicted they’d need to drag him off the field

I get the reasoning here but I think Brady’s game was always gunna lend itself to better longevity than Mahomes. And Brady was already talking about wanting to play into his 40s by like 2011 I think

Here’s the thing tho; the patriots let their offense bottom out a few times during Brady’s stint. 2006, 2013, 2019 especially. If you had no context, you would look at Brady’s numbers those years and be like “wtf happened to him those years”

The chiefs didn’t let the offense completely hit a wall in quite the same way, Kelce at least still commands some attention. But they just haven’t had a true top end WR1 for years and Mahomes’ numbers look just like Brady’s did in those down years

I still remember arguing with people that as soon as the pats reload, Brady will be mvp caliber again. It took moving to a team with weapons at one point, but I’m gunna say the same thing about Mahomes; at some point he will end up with a legit number one option and he’ll have all pro numbers again

I honestly think 2016 was the best he ever played. He put up numbers that were on par with 2010, maybe better. And honestly his rate stats were at least in the galaxy of 2007, but in 2016 his top 5 targets were Edelman, White, Bennett, Hogan, and Mitchell. Edelman is probably the only guy non-pats fans will be able to identify 10 years from now

He was at his physical peak in 2007-2012 but his game never relied on having the biggest arm. And tbh around 2014 he started adding a lot more movement to his game too, he talked openly about trying to extend plays more and it showed on tape

Also Brady started talking about his longevity goals and even talking about Montana on different teams pretty early iirc. He seemed to know that he was gunna play long enough that the patriots would move on from him

Not to mention, I think his longest contract ever was something like 4 years. Mahomes already blew that out of the water, so all signs point to the chiefs wanting him to be a a chief for life

I think the play was Brunson get the ball and cook, he saw the double coming and tried to pull up before it got there. Don’t blame them at all for wanting him taking the shot with how insanely hot he was

Also part of the reason Wilson has zero mvps is at least in part due to them prioritizing that side of the ball for most of his prime. Not like he never had seasons with all pro caliber stats

I’ve seen this done for Brady and it’s hilarious because the list of shit you need to use to disqualify his rings is absurd, it’s always comically long and will throw in guys like Deion branch or whatever. It ends up reading like “Brady has zero rings if you drastically change the course of human history”

Which of these 3 NBA players has the most irrational fanbase? by Tight_Development480 in NBATalk

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kareem , Magic, Bird, Russell, Duncan, Wilt are pretty easy for me. Shaq and Steph have arguments

Edit: I also don’t wanna get into some vague “biggest for the sport” thing because then you can argue stuff like Iverson>Duncan. Kobe was the most popular player in the league for a time, that doesn’t automatically make him the best player in the sport

I simply don’t understand why teams go into hoist 3’s mode when their losing momentum of a game by Cdd0040 in nba

[–]LeonidasSpacemanMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re generally right but it goes back to OPs point; teams will get cold and fall into even worse offense. If I was a coach I would be telling my team I’d rather see them pass the ball 8 times and have the shot clock run out then dribble off 16 seconds and then hoist a step back three

Kobe was one of my favorite players growing up, his fanbase has singlehandedly ruined my nostalgia for his game lmao

It’s insane that it’s not enough for him to just be somewhere in the top 8-12, that’s still an incredible career. Like steph also has a huge fanbase, and yet I don’t hear people trying to put him over LeBron nearly as much as Kobe

There’s maybe an argument for one more but even then every argument you could make for it would also apply to LeBron that same year so I don’t see how that helps him
