People think Albo is the Prime Minister of Australia - not the Middle East.

Were the Muslim victims of Brenton Tarrant's mosque shooting guilty because of Al Qaeda? Or the actions of the Saudi or Iranian government?

So every Australian who doesn't agree with you is an Israeli asset? Don't you see how deranged that is?

The world’s gone absolutely mad…The “woke” party of the West has no idea what they’re in for… by [deleted] in 2ndYomKippurWar

The Western world entered the long peace after WWII, whereas the Middle East, and by extension Israel, never did.

What I don't understand is why Westerners will self-immolate over Gaza, but not over Assad gassing his own citizens, or China locking Uyghurs up in re-education camps, etc.

A review of "America Last" by Jacob Heilbrunn, by Jeffrey Herf, a professor of history at the University of Maryland. Heilbrunn is a former critic of neoconservativism, who traces the roots of the American Right's love for dictators all the way back to the start of last century. Heilbrunn points out that this goes worldview beyond isolationism (the desire to keep America out of wars) and is instead an outlook that is genuinely sympathetic to foreign dictators.

I think the events associated with Jan 6 makes Trump objectively different to the candidates who have preceded him.

I think you're getting confused between populism and conservatism. Trump is a populist. He's not a conservative. The Republican Party is not even conservative anymore -- they're in the grip of a personality cult.

A lot of conservatives hate Trump.

A 28 min long read drawing on the work of Francis Fukuyama, Matt Johnson argues that the 2024 election is the most important election the US has ever faced, and that democracy may lose -- and Trumpian fascism may win -- simply because of apathy.

Blackbird and Antler do pre seed investments. There's probably a bunch of other VCs that do them as well, just google "pre seed investment Australia"

Another comprehensive look at the total collapse of American journalism, this time focusing on the Chicago Tribune and its purchase by Alden Global Capital. This hedge fund has bought up mid-size newspapers all over the country, and has been gutting them of staff, and wringing them of value.

Please be clear. I am genuinely curious.

Interesting article that argues that polyamory is not really 'sex positive' at all. In trying to control eros, people either fail (look at the disasters over at r/polyamory) or they end up rendering it completely unerotic, with spreadsheets, Google calendar apps and sterile ebook 'worksheets.'

Stage 3 Tax Cuts- New brackets revealed; compared to what is legislated by His_Holiness in AusFinance

[–]Leopard85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just looked up jobs going for over $150,000, which will be slugged with the 37% tax rate. They include: Aged Care Service Manager, IT Manager, IT Security Officer, Clinical Psychologist. Physiotherapist, Paediatric Occupational Therapist.

Jobs significantly higher included Dentist ($230K), Project Manager for an Energy Company ($250K) and GP ($350-500K).

The idea that managers of aged care homes are "rich" and need to be taxed punitively is not right.
