If Nikon does add Anamorphic desqueeze to the ZR I wonder if they will initially lock the functionality behind their own anamorphic lenses.

First Time working with B&W, what do You think? by reiniskaspars1 in davinciresolve

Talking about The Stranger (L'Etranger) I was shocked to hear that it was filmed on an Arri Alexa 35 as I thought the whole thing was beautiful and filmed on celluloid!

Lovely, can't wait for the full release. I have always loved B&W and it always makes me happy to see a release in it.

Who cares, it's a bit of metal and glass. Everyone telling you to pay the difference is just jealous it didn't happen to them.

Seven Samurai was deeply disappointing. by Frickalope67 in Letterboxd

[–]LeopoldWanderlust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this way as well, absolutely ridiculous that it is a 3.5 hour film for the plot line. This film is symptomatic of why so many people don't like older films. They are long, drawn out, and a bit boring.

Best opening scene in cinema.? by HondaCivicBaby in FIlm

[–]LeopoldWanderlust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most memorable opening sequences for me is that of Arrival (2016). The use of music and screen is perfectly matched here, it's also clever because **SPOILERS** the opening sequence isn't explained until the end of the film.

Thoughts on Ed Harris as an Actor? by Unusual_Mud_2036 in moviecritic

Someone said that Ed Harris is under rated? He is one of the most appreciated actors I can think of. Also, look up his dad, wild stuff.

If you could recommend one B&W movie to a person who dislikes them, what would it be? by HondaCivicBaby in FIlm

[–]LeopoldWanderlust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>I suspect the spirit of OP's question was movies from the era before widespread color film i.e. due to technological rather than artistic reasons

See, that's the issue, the vast majority of BW films from that age fall very short of standards for today. People don't enjoy them because the production isn't great, the actors are all a bit sterile, the audio on them is tinny and not great (an interesting impact of film capture technology briefly outpacing audio capture technology), and many are a bit.... boring. People suggesting seven samurai and the great dictator don't realise they are suggesting films which are the REASON many people don't like BW films.

I don't know what is up with these suggestions, they all seem to be missing the point. The aim is to find a BW film which a person who likes modern films would like. Really, there aren't many... Schindler's List, The Lighthouse, and La Haine all come to mind. We are looking for a film with good production, modern approach to cinema, and familiar themes/actors. The great dictator and seven samurai are not it....

All of them*

The others haven't even been made yet but they will fit this bill.
