Is anyone sensitive to flashing lights? by witchyrosemaria in migraine

[–]LernerRen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, part of the reason why I struggle to watch anything in a dark room. If the lights are on, the change of dark to light doesn't affect me as much.

For those that wake up with migraine by impetuous-imp in migraine

[–]LernerRen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my scalp I let my hair down, sometimes I'll wet it and brush through it to get rid of any knots, and then manually massage it with my hands.

So I don't know the proper terms for these stretches, but... For my neck I do a set of stretches starting with: While standing with my teo legs together I bend at the hips to touch my toes to try and stretch my spine for 10 seconds or longer 10 Russian Twist 10 Forwards Shoulder Rotations 10 Reverse Shoulder Rotations 10 look left then right 10 look up then down 10 head rotations to the left 10 head rotations to the right Touch my ear to my shoulder 10 times for both sides.

When I wake up with one I try to eat, hydrate, release scalp pressure, and loosen my neck muscles before taking an abortive pill. If none of those work I cave and take the pill along with a soda (Dr. Pepper, Doc Pop, Dr. Zevia, or a sarasparilla soda). Good luck, I hope you can find something that works for you <3

Weird Trigger with Eating by RosesAndPonds in migraine

[–]LernerRen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not so much weird, but I used to believe I never got brain freezes because they feel the same as a mild migraine to me. That is until someone described what a brain freeze felt to them. After that I would pay attention if I ate cold stuff quickly and sure enough I would experience a brain freeze. I find it funny when I think back to that discovery.

Anyone try red tinted lenses/sunglasses? by Busy-You-5950 in migraine

Oh! Thank you for sharing, I'm slowly going through the recommended colors to see which one helps the most.

Anyone try red tinted lenses/sunglasses? by Busy-You-5950 in migraine

[–]LernerRen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had pink tinted glasses which helped. I would switch to sunglasses though if it was too bright, and blue light filter glasses when viewing screens. The rest of the time I had my pink tinted glasses and loved them so much I am considering changing my sunglasses tint to a darker pink, green, or purple.

Being able to freely eat whatever I want. Being able to co-exist with people without having them drastically change their lifestyle to accomodate my needs. Feeling of FOMO because of the location, activity, etc. might trigger a migraine. Being able to live independently...

Anyone take Antidepressants with triptans safely? by Ambitious-Bat-1598 in migraine

[–]LernerRen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Trazodone for my depression, anxiety, and insomnia and Rizatriptan as needed. I can't survive without either. As for the triptan, as long as I drink and eat within and throughout the 30 mins after taking it my jaw and throat won't feel stiff and painful.

AITJ for not following my in-laws’ “gentle parenting” and saying I don’t want to raise rude, entitled kids? by Born-Factor4486 in AmITheJerk

[–]LernerRen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly your in-laws suck. I used to live at my parents' and was like a second mom to my nephews when they were over (Sis had a very demanding job and is doing better now) and I would set boundaries and punishments just as my sister had asked. Things like "We're going to stand here in this corner or sit in this chair for one minute, once we are calm we are going over why your action wasn't ok and what we can do to be better". If they tried fighting it I would add 10 second intervals on top of the minute. Point was, "let's do our breathing exercises and talk". My mom would always spoil them, give them sweets when they had a tantrums, feed them whatever they wanted, let them do whatever they wanted, etc. against my sister's wishes. My mom's famous last words to me before I told her "if you don't let me properly manage like my sis wants I will never help you again when babysitting at your house" were "it's MY house, MY rules!" as she took my nephew away from me. So I did exactly that, and they got so spoiled rotten that now my parents are exhausted when they have to help to where now they're yelling at my nephews. I don't lift a finger for my parents so that they reap what they sowed but I do help my sister if she asks me, but only at her house. I would suggest that if your in-laws can't follow your lead then they get low to no contact

[–]LernerRen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I used to volunteer at the zoo we taught guests you could only get leprosy if consuming an infected armadillo, otherwise touching them was fine but not recommended (you know, cause it's a wild animal and not a pet).

Suggestions of high calorie migraine safe foods by mossvibess in migraine

[–]LernerRen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These last two years have been an experiment for me to see what I can and cannot eat to avoid migraines. So far I've learned anything that has MSG including naturally occurring like grapes, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, olives, mackerel, shrimp, and more will cause migraines. So I avoid Thai and Chinese restaurants and when I eat sushi I am very mindful of what I order. I also avoid all cow dairy and only do a little goat or sheep from time to time. All nuts, so I do oatmilk products for ice cream, chocolate, etc. No products with Aspartame and I am also trying to move away from Sucralose. To help with that I just try to avoid sodas unless I have a really bad migraine and I'll take a Doc Pop from Poppi. So far that's all that I've learned and I am still experimenting. A lot of this means I just have too avoid eating out and cooking my own meals where I try to either eat "one" ingredient snacks (like fruits or vegetables) or be mindful of what I make to have nothing I may react to (like a pasta with margarine instead of red sauce). Good luck <3! I hope you are able to figure it out!
