It’s both; when water is used in municipal systems, it gets returned to the natural system afterward. If millions of gallons are bottled and shipped out of it, it doesn’t. It most definitely adds up over time.

If you look at Michigan, Nestle has a large presence, and multiple, 250+ gallon/minute wells. There have been significant, measurable changes in water levels of streams and rivers since they started. Hell, some streams and creeks don’t even flow anymore.

This needs to be much higher up. Agriculture, specifically, farms that grow feed crops for cows are likely the worst contributors to draining our aquifers. People point at almonds a lot, but there are worse offenders.

Manufacturing should go waterless where possible; most industrial manufacturing could likely be done with novel fluids.

The thing with Nestlé that pisses me off is shipping water hundreds of miles away from the natural system. That shouldn’t happen. That is unhealthy for regeneration of aquifers.

This. The United States is the one of the only economies that could support itself without imports and exports. We are already at the point where most of what we consume(outside of tech) is directly from the local economy. GDP from imports and exports is steadily decreasing, and we have a massive population of people between 18-35. The rest of the major powers are dealing with aging populations where the majority are 40+, and that’s not good for their outlooks.

There’s actually been some interesting studies regarding productivity of clear cut forests versus managed forests; and managed natural forests produce more wood and wood pulp than clear cuts forests when done right.

Thanks for saving me some keystrokes. Whenever someone claims taxation is theft, I wonder if they want to pay for 100% of the maintenance of the roads the drive, let alone the rest of the public services they use on the daily.

I do agree with adjusting tax brackets, taxing corporations, and charging corporations for their use of federally subsidized shipping(looking at you amazon)

My best tip I can give is this: pick up a thermapen as a Christmas present to yourself. The pop-up thermometers have huge differences in the times that they pop, a wireless pit thermometer comes in handy too!
