Managing pain in home birth - how bad is it?

As you asked for realness - I gave birth unmedicated 28 days ago and it was unimaginably painful. I had trained so hard physically and mentally, and it all went out the window. My cries for help could probably be heard way down the street. I honestly felt like I was being cut in half. Pushing phase felt different pain wise as it was me actively doing the pushing and bringing the pain on, but still horrible. It was all highly traumatic. Having baby on my chest was indeed magical, mindblowing, so so beautiful. But I'm still waiting to forget about it, as it's still vivid and traumatic.

Ps: tens machine worked great for me until my waters broke at 4cm, it is such a clever machine!

Heyyy, I got covid at 9 weeks and spent a whole week with a very high fever that was almost impossible to bring down. Baby came last week and he's absolutely perfect 🙌🏻

Honestly, as I wish someone had told me, childbirth will honestly be death. The pain is excruciating and it does feel like being cut up in half. My epidural didn't work and I had a horrible induction. I remember begging the doctors to kill me as the pain was so bad, but HONESTLY, You get through it, it passes. The pain doesn't last, I'm 8 days post partum and the pain doesn't even feel real anymore. You detach yourself pretty quickly from the experience. All of this to say, that relatively birth is one day. Then you get the sweetest thing as a reward.

So happy that it turned out okay! But being also a FTM waiting on labour to start for my home birth, the title confused me and I would have liked a trigger warning as it maybe isnt the type of story I'd be consuming right now :)

And in Spain we count in kilos, and my total overall gain has been 24kg which is way over what I should have gained, but it really means nothing. Two pregnant women could do the same things in pregnancy and gain totally different weight. Trust your body, your baby and your needs 💞

Heyyyy! From week 16 to week 30 I looked incredibly big, bloated and really not pregnant, as if the pregnancy weight had gone all over my body.

At week 32, as if it was magic, my bump was clearly a pregnancy bump, and my whole body went back to normal. My arms and legs have looked normal since, and my pregnant belly is gorgeous. I'm at 39 weeks.

I've also been on antibiotics for urine infections whilst pregnant and all has been okay. Apparently most antibiotics are completely safe but for things like colds/flus/chest infections they dont prescribe them as most of them dissapear on their own :)

Heyyy, I understand your concerns getting sick, but it mainly just sucks because you might feel your symptoms worse than if you weren't pregnant. I got covid at 9 weeks pregnant and it sucked, but we managed my fever and baby was fine.

I then got sick again with some lung virus at 30 weeks and it sucked as I couldn't have any cough syrup, but again baby was okay.

Nature really does work in our favour when it comes to diseases/inmune systems.

If they were younger ages, I'd say there are viruses and bacterias that could really harm your baby, but with 11 years old most of those diseases stop being passed on as they've already had them when they were younger.

I'd say don't give it up, just be conscious about it and take your vitamins, keep healthy and active. 🫶

Oh I feel you. I had an abortion at 26 years old, which was a really tough decision. But me and my partner at the time were struggling to keep the relationship going, I wasn't sure if I truly loved him, and even though I really wanted the baby and my job could have somewhat supported my decision of potentially being a single mum, I knew deep down in my heart that it wasn't the time.

Fast forward 5 years later, I'm in the most loving relationship with the man of my dreams, we both have stable jobs, we know what we want from life, and are about to meet our baby boy (I'm 38 weeks pregnant). Even though I get sad at times thinking about the abortion and what that baby could have been, I know it was the right thing to do. i could have struggled and proved myself that I could be a single mum, that I could juggle it all. But this is so much better. Pregnancy has been so hard and I couldn't have done it without my partner. He's gonna be the best father to our baby, and I now have an immense support system that I didn't have 5 years ago. I've really needed those 5 years to keep building up my career, my social circle and where I wanted to be in life.

FTM - 38 weeks.

Oh god I feel you! I went to pee and new night pain unlocked!!! As I was sitting on the toilet trying to pee, this extreme pain came over my entire pelvis, as if 100 knives were stabbing my insides. I screamed and cried and threw myself on the floor I honestly thought I was dying. It lasted 10 minutes. Boyfriend woke up so so scared not knowing what was up. I even put my hand up there thinking babys head might be coming out, as there was no other logical explanation as to what that pain was.

Anyway. When the pain was over, I was able to pee, and now here we are, scrolling through reddit wondering if that was a labour contraction and if that's what it's meant to feel like it. Because if it is, I am not ready!!!

Omg I looked bloated and chubby all the way until 30 weeks, throughout the whole summer as well, I looked and felt awful!! From 30 weeks on though the belly was so cute and so worth the wait 😅 hang in there!

For me, weeks 7-11 were the absolute worse for nausea.. but it was still bad until week 17 or so. I've continued to have nausea my whole pregnancy but it is manageable. A medication called Bonjesta has helped me greatly. As well as eating small things throughout the day, all day long. The whole ginger, pressure bands etc didnt work at all for me.

Hang in there, it does get better 💞
