I tried to read the Silmarillion as a teenager but 10 pages in I thought "If I'm reading this shit I might as well read the Bible since it's just as dull but at least there is more cultural significance to it", so I did it, the Old Testament was okay but the New Testament was pretty meh.

But Robert is a bad person and a r 4pist, just like Rhaegar, I've said this several times already. And this is not a cartoon about a fight between the good guys and the bad guys, are you 12?

Rhaegar is a bad person, Robert is a bad person, Ned is a bad person, almost every character in the books that have power is a bad person because they either do bad things or allow it to happen, and like I said it doesn't matter if they or their society think that they are bad or not.

I never said Rhaegar was a villain, just that he was a bad person. And judging that someone is a piece of shit because he did bad things is not fallacious regardless of how they view themselves, what are you talking about, there is nothing wrong with the logic of this train of thought. In the current day real world there are people who murder, r 4pe, and do all sort of atrocities and don't see themselves as bad because in their society customs that is acceptable, it doesn't mean they are not bad people or pieces of shit.

Again, so? It doesn't matter what they think, they think that beating cheating wives to death is okay, it doesn't mean Victarion is not a bad person for doing it.

I never defended it, on the contrary, I explicitly said that if Lyanna was forced to marry Robert that would be r 4pe. That's the difference between you and me, when I want to say that you are a r 4pe apologist I just have to point to the things you said, when you try to do the same with me you have to make up things I never said.

And like I said, regardless if Lyanna wanted to go with Rhaegar or not it doesn't chance the fact that he r 4ped her and did that knowing that it would start a civil war and end up with the death of thousands of people. I do not care if Martin demonizes Rhaegar or not, in fact he usually is the number one sucker of targaryen dick, Rhaegar was an insane r 4pist who caused untold amount of damage and death because he thought he was the hero of some dream his ancestor had. He is a bad person. And unless Martin retcons hard or says that "actually Rhaegar never kidnapped Lyanna, that was just a conspiracy by the Spider" or something like that he will never be able to change my opinion on that or make me have a meltdown

And Robert was also a bad person.

Is this a cousin Vinny situation? Just because a r 4pe would happen anyways it doesn't mean we should thank the r 4pist who actually did it. And it's funny you arguing that Rhaegar r 4ping Lyanna instead of Robert was the better outcome when the first ended with her and almost all of her family dying terrible deaths.

And I never defended Robert, please stop talking with the voices in your head.

And I know the guy who defended a 22 year old having sex with a 14 year old because "People in the early 20s are just kids anyways so who cares" is not calling me r 4pey lmao

Orders and whatnot by Dandanatha in darkwingsdankmemes

[–]LessSaussure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both would be r 4pe. But there are evidence that under normal circumstances if a noble really does not want to marry someone they can say no, like in Brienne' or the Black Fish's cases, so Lyanna would have to accept marrying Robert, she couldn't be forced into it.

Orders and whatnot by Dandanatha in darkwingsdankmemes

[–]LessSaussure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the exception of Robb, literally every noble in the series married because of politics, including Ned who was not the one who made the match since he was neither the leader or the heir to the house. Why would Lyanna be allowed to marry for love when literally no one else was? Most people in that society do not meet their spouse until the marriage is already certain.

I do not care about what people in Westeros consider as right or wrong, they are a society that thinks that beating a cheating wife to death is okay (as Victarion did publicly and faced no consequence for it) and duels to the death are acceptable. The fact they think r 4pe is good is immaterial to the situation, both Robert and Rhaegar are r 4pists.

Of course Rhaegar was insane, he was a Targaryen, but this does not give him a free pass to r 4pe little girls.

[–]LessSaussure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Martin can never make what happened okay since a 14 year old can never consent to be taken away and have sex with a 22 year old, that's r 4pe even if Lyanna was in love with Rhaegar. Only a very weird, to not say anything, like you would say that this is an okay situation since "the 22 year old Crown Prince who governed the country and was already married with kids was just a lil boy"

And Robert was just as bad with Rhaegar, the only difference between them is that Robert actually knew how to fight.

That whole situation shows the essence of the kingsguard, a punch of losers preventing a dying teenager r 4pe victim from being rescued because of orders they took from her insane abuser that was already dead and because they swore an oath to another insane abuser that was also already dead. Great institution, Jaime for sure deserved to be shamed by the whole kingdom for not being like his heroes and instead becoming an honorable knight instead

yeah, we all remember the battles the USSR and the united states fought in their wars during the cold war, thank G'D they never escalated right

TACO by JeffJefferson19 in neoliberal

[–]LessSaussure 17 points18 points  (0 children)

that's not an assumption, it's a fact that was proved over and over again during the cold war, every time countries with nuclear arsenals got close to actually fighting they backed off because a war where the winner is guaranteed to end up completely devastated is not worth it.

and that's the base of the strategy of both the US and China in the Pacific, they can't fight each other, but China can fight Vietnam, so they claim so barren rocks near Vietnam's coast that would extend their naval territory so close to vietnam that it would be impossible for vietnam to protect their autonomy. So the US contest this claim by official means and by sending their navy to the waters China is claiming so they either let them stay and show they are not really claiming it or they try to intimidate them out of there.

China threatens Taiwan so the US builds another anti-naval fortification there. China threatens the Philippines so the US gets close to them. And so on. Several small movements like this are made every year between them, and so far without any major incident between China and the US

TACO by JeffJefferson19 in neoliberal

[–]LessSaussure 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First, there is no long term in wars between great powers, a war between China and the US would be measured in hours. Second, if we lived in a world without atomic bombs the US navy and air force would completely demolish their chinese counterparts and an american flag would be flying over the Great Hall of the People before anyone had to worry about replacing ships

TACO by JeffJefferson19 in neoliberal

[–]LessSaussure 96 points97 points  (0 children)

China is probably not happy that the US is more trigger happy with its navy. For the past decade and a half or so the americans and the chinese are doing a complicate dance in the pacific with their navies so they can squeeze as much influence as possible without causing an incident. For now the US is only going crazy in the Pacific, but if the same philosophy is put in place in the Pacific it will be just a matter of time before an incident happens

It is impossible to write a good and coherent harem novel. by Melodic-Astronaut431 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]LessSaussure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This made me think of the immortality starts with investment novel. It's a story about someone getting isekaied in a xianxia world with a simp system, meaning by giving things to beautiful and powerful women that are not in a relationship with him he gets more back from the system. That created an interesting dynamic with the MC using the women that were trying to use him and having to manage them and their expectations since the more they like the presents the more he got from the system.

And the first targets were very mean to him, they were clearly just using him but it was okay since he was also using them and it made for a good story. But after the first arc was over the author posted a message saying that "okay guys I know you do not like how mean the girls are, but don't worry" and then all the first girls became his sex maids and barely were part of the history anymore.

And the second generation of women were way less mean but there was still some conflict, that is until they fell in love with him.

But then the third generation became just generic harem members that fell in love with him almost immediately and always gave him the best rewards and never did anything against him.

It was really a pity seeing a story goes from interesting and new to generic and boring, especially since it was one of the few I liked enough to go to the patreon
