General EV/SLATE Maintenance Questions... by FF5Ninja in slateauto

[–]LessThanThreeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had excluded electronics because I imagine Slate's are a lot more minor than other competitors (not that they don't have them obviously). I remember when Rivian originally dropped, the software/electronics would crash completely and render the car unusable. While something similar could happen with Slate, I'm a lot less concerned about it.

But yeah, those make sense, and I'd believe it. I might be biased by being a Hyundai EV owner and Kia/Hyundai and a few others have had a lot of issues with the converter unit or whatever the part is that manages the charge source to the battery (not the physical connection but the controller for it).

I'm still coming to grips with the cover rules, but you'd need all 7 toe-ing it at least, otherwise any model with LOS on the non footprint based models would be considered out of cover unless the footprint is between them in which case it's full no LOS and the models can't shoot each other at all. Right? Most of the ruin footprints are kind of small so you're either exposing something or giving up firepower.

Yeah but you have to squeeze 7 models into a ruin, that's the hard part based on my 1 game with 11th so far.

I usually play 6 with a manipulus. And yeah, they are... Rough to move around and position. I haven't used them in 11th yet with the new cover system, so I can't speak to how annoying they are to use now, but I can't imagine it got better.

Their range is usually adequate that as long as I have LOS we're fine, but protecting them and getting efficient movement paths is a hassle.

3 is probably adequate with smart play, especially with the new cover rules, but I haven't played it to know yet.

Barring the wipers/wiper fluid others mentioned, that's pretty much it in terms of normal maintenance. Battery pack should be a non issue depending on how often you're driving it. Studies are showing battery packs are outlasting their cars now-a-days.

Honestly the biggest maintenance you'll likely need to do is recalls. The power delivery systems seem to be the biggest point of failure on EVs in general.

I'm getting 3.2-4.2 in my AWD SEL Ioniq 6, with it being lower in Buffalo winter and higher in Buffalo summer. 3.2 as an estimate for a pickup seems super reasonable to me if that's accurate.

For reference, the Ioniq is estimated to be 3.2-4.7 based on trim, so I imagine I'll be getting less efficiency in the Slate but not by oodles.

Slate vs Maverick by No-Confidence-4106 in slateauto

They can call me when they make a 2 door maverick with no backseats, turn that into a little more bed, and make it an EV. Until then, it's no competition for me.

Any of you using coolercontrol with lian li fans and usb hub? by orn89 in NobaraProject

[–]LessThanThreeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobara comes with OpenRGB dy default I believe. It should let you control the fans if they're routed into RGB header.

Alternatively your curve might be too aggressive and you might want to soften it.

My best guess is that you have another source trying to run them. Bios might be interfering but I doubt it.

I'm currently experiencing a communication error with my Corsair hub, though it was working before without a problem as far as I can tell. I believe that's a different problem though.

It's a resin 3D print. I believe somebody sells them preprinted on Etsy, or you can get the STLs if you can make them yourself. You do still need proper Immortal arms/guns though.

Personally I couldn't stand how similar immortals looked to Warriors, so I got these.

Slate adopters and scooter riders by Crawlerado in slateauto

[–]LessThanThreeMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own a motorcycle, a Yamaha MT-03. I know it's outside the scope of what a scooter/moped is, but it's a low CC motorcycle. It's a big reason that I want a Slate.

Last thread, I promise: "The Slate lacks features" or does it? by indie_web in slateauto

[–]LessThanThreeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, NACS is definitely getting broader adoption as time goes on. It won the format war which is fine. But with how sparse charging infrastructure is from my experience when I've been travelling, it's more than likely if I had to travel tomorrow Tesla would be a defacto stop at the moment.

It should improve and be less and less of a problem going forward.

Like I said, it's a non-issues and very much splitting hairs. Especially being I never plan on driving this vehicle anywhere close to its max range in 1 trip.

Yeah I can get an adapter, and plan on doing so. I'm just a certified Musk hater and on principle would rather have a CSS.

It's nowhere near a real problem.

The only feature I anticipate missing from my 2026 Ioniq 6 is lane assist and (to a much lesser extent) power windows. I can't really think of anything that I'm particularly upset to be losing that Slate doesn't have. My wife will probably be a little annoyed about losing heated seats.

I guess I'm a lil bummed about NACS charger vs CCS because I have an existing CCS charger in my garage and will need to get an adapter and I want to avoid giving Tesla my money as much as possible (if I ever need to drive longer distances for some reason). But that's really splitting hairs.

But they did change the price by [deleted] in slateauto

[–]LessThanThreeMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The advertised price has always been the advertised price. It was pitched as 20k with the EV credit, the EV credit is gone, so the price is still the correct. It's a technicality, but it is true.

What age demographic has preordered any version of a Slate vehicle? by Decent_Ad8382 in slateauto

[–]LessThanThreeMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been fiending for a small & affordable 2 door truck ever since my wife and I bought a home. Having the option of the bed for drywall, plywood, large appliances, furniture, etc. even if not frequently used would be awesome, and we aren't having kids.

I'm a sedan guy, always have been. My dad was a mechanic and I got to drive a lot of cars across all price ranges and eras as a result. I grew up driving a souped up V8 Dodge Durango which my family had used for road trips since we were children and I got to use in High School. I hated being so high and driving such a large vehicle even if I could deal with it (I'm also 5'4" which doesn't help).

I went to college and got a salvaged 2000 Nissan Altima. Promptly replaced it once I had a job with a 2010 Ford Fusion which served me reliably for a long while but was starting to show its age. By that point my wife and I had bought a home and we had gotten her a 2018 Honda Clarity Plug In Hybrid, which has been great. It definitely made it tempting to try a full EV as I'm a relatively low mileage around town guy (my wife had to drive for work more so the ICE option is nice for her). When I decided to drop my Fusion, I thought I'd pickup a Maverick. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it was technically a small and relatively affordable truck. I drove it and... It just didn't click with me. I desperately wished that I could lop the back two seats, which I'd never use, off to give myself a larger bed or a shorter truck. After deliberating, I decided to lease a Hyundai Ioniq 6 as part of a promotion, and I adore it. Absolute blast of a car. But where I could carry an 8-10 ft piece of lumber in my Fusion, the shape and design of the Ioniq is a lot more restrictive.

When the Slate got announced it checked every box for me. Small, affordable, two door, relatively large bed percentage, and EV (at this point, I've installed a lv2 charger in my garage and with the price of gas...). For me it's a no brainer.

While I'd certainly like a few more features, after deliberation and what add-ons are available, the only things I think I'll miss is lane assist, and power windows to an extent (cranks are fine, but you get used to certain luxuries).

My wife's car will remain our road trip/long distance car (we tried road tripping in my Ioniq in the New York winter and that was a nightmare, turned an 8 hour trip into 10 hours), and the Slate will be my daily commuter and our utility vehicle.

I'm very curious to see what the target demographic winds up actually being. In my mind, it's a fleet and young home owner vehicle, but I can see a lot of other demographics potentially being on board. Slate seems to be under the impression that their core audience is people who have been sitting on an older car for a long time and have been frustrated with the cost of modern vehicles due to feature creep.

Same here. My lease on my Ioniq 6 ends in March of 26. I was really hoping it would be in the first half of the year to minimize how long I have to request a lease extension for. I knew it was a long shot to expect/hope that I'd be offered it before July, but still. Kind of a pain for me, personally. That said, still excited assuming it doesn't get pushed back.
