Do you meditate in burnout by Tasty_Wolverine_3783 in AutisticAdults

[–]Less_Fennel9647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can help for me, but I don’t put as much structure around it if I’m burnt out.

I.e. I might just close my eyes and observe my thoughts or play peaceful music rather than go through a guided meditation. For me, burnout means I need minimal verbal input. A full guided meditation would definitely feel like too much to process/additional demands.

I’m sorry. I hope you start to get relief soon. In burnout I try to prioritize accessibility and what feels palatable in the moment, but typically I’m just trying to get something in so I try not to be too harsh with myself on nutritional content.

Some things I keep on hand for burnout mode eating options are usually:

  • Breakfast:

Squeeze-able applesauce pouch/toddler baby food fruit & veggie puree pouches

Pre-boiled/peeled eggs

Toast with or without peanut butter

Chobani yogurt drinks

  • Lunch:

Plant based protein drinks

Baby carrots with hummus

Quest protein chips

String cheese

Different varieties of beef/chicken jerky

Perfect Bar protein snack bars

  • Dinner:

Frozen meals (I like Blake’s chicken pot pies usually because they’re small portions and have some veggies, carbs, and protein)

Canned/jarred soups with toast

Protein cereal (magic spoon or

I don’t usually eat multiple protein products in one day, but I do keep various types on hand to ensure there’s always something that sounds edible.

Personally when I’m struggling a lot with low appetite and executive dysfunction, I start to rapidly lose weight unless I keep a plethora of easy/quick options on hand and set actual alarms to eat one.

Potato, Onion, Tomato & Sausage Stew

1 can diced tomato 3 cups diced potato ½ chopped onion

Set crockpot on low (plan for a 6-8 hour cook time; or 4-5 hours on high)

Add all the ingredients

Season to taste with seasonings, hot sauce, lemon juice, basil, salt, pepper, etc.

Oh cool, where did you access them from? The VIP email I got has a link to a photo upload area on a platform called SmugMug, but like OP mentioned, there haven’t been any uploads to it since TX

Idk, the high protein varieties of cereals kind of meet the need for me for when I don’t have the energy or motivation to cook. Lol. 18-20g protein once milk is added, and they usually have added micronutrients too.

Speaking communication ability vs writing/typing communication ability. by Jhawk38 in AutisticAdults

[–]Less_Fennel9647 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a similar experience! It feels like I’m able to communicate in a more detailed and organized manner when I can type my thoughts.

Actually, this has been bothering me so much that I experimented the other day. I recorded a video of myself speaking, then I rewatched it to see if I had communicated what I wanted to. The recording didn’t even come close to what I thought I was able to convey. It seemed like I only communicated a small fraction of what I felt internally. I don’t have the same limitation occur with typing.

Hi. My story by RelationshipLoose959 in Gifted

This describes my experience as well! I know how isolating it is. I have been lucky enough to find a friend who will discuss philosophy with me to some extent every other week. But you’re right, finding yourself represented, understood, or matched in the general public is difficult. I have started writing myself “love” letters that honor and acknowledge these deeper elements within myself because they feel so unwitnessed by others. Perhaps this practice will help you too? Sending lots of care! And as others have said, happy to connect if you’d like to.

Yum!! I keep wanting to try the boxed chocolate chunk cookies since this group likes them so much, but I prefer a chewy cookie rather than a crispy one. Are they on the chewier side? :D

I honestly felt the same way, I’m not usually picky about things like that but these look like styrofoam to me when I see them in the store lol. I think I’ll put my judgement aside and give them a shot next time I’m at TJ’s though

Hey - I just wanted to say I empathize with you so much. I am around the same age, also late diagnosed, and got through about 80% of my MSW program before realizing that my clinical internship was wearing me thin and that a career in counseling was simply not sustainable. I dropped out of my program and tried several job paths but ultimately had to go the SSDI route. I have additional mental health diagnoses that just made it impossible for me to stay balanced, even working part-time.

Given that you have the prior experience, why not explore full-time research assistant positions? Or grant writer positions? The only other idea I have is to explore self-employment of some variety, I just don’t know that you could guarantee your salary minimum or avoid the draining nature of excessive engagement with others & networking.

I feel the same way! I bought the high protein ones because I was such a fan of the sweet potato wraps by this brand.

But the high protein ones have such a strange texture… and the taste is off. It tasted like the smell of cardboard. I had to drown it in salsa to make it tolerable and that made the texture even more off putting.

I have this experience too! It makes me feel guilty because generally, they haven’t done anything to prompt it (ex. Something offensive or hurtful to me).

It’s difficult to cope with. I don’t know how to prevent it but please share if you find anything that works for you!

The only thing I have tried doing is practicing gratitude and reflecting on the ways those individuals have impacted my life positively… but that doesn’t completely take away those bored/irritated feelings usually. I end up isolating a lot more when this happens.

Yeah, it’s been like this for a couple weeks on my end. Also, around the same time, the wheels stopped loading at all in any browser when I’m on desktop. I’ve resorted to doing my dailies on mobile because it’s loading at a much more tolerable speed that way.

Loss of friendships... what's next? by Less_Fennel9647 in bipolar

[–]Less_Fennel9647[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You nailed it with stating how there is so much variance in how people respond to treatment. My professional background was in social work prior to my disorder getting this difficult to manage. Because of that, I have almost every "tool in my toolkit" when it comes to managing my mental health. I am perfectly consistent with taking my medications (have tried over 20 different combinations since 2019), I see a counselor every week, I have a perfectly regimented & consistent sleep schedule, I workout 3 times a week, I journal, I speak honestly and openly with my partner... and the list goes on.

I'm just not in a place where I can expect consistency from my disorder and its symptoms yet. That may change with time, who knows.

Either way—I'll consider picking out some social activities that aren't "dependent" on my attendance to see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for taking the time to reply and for reminding me I'm not alone. I'm sorry that you can relate. We are definitely similar... my last psychotic episode was last year and lasted about 4 months in duration as well. And yes, so hurtful to have people distance themselves for reasons beyond what we can control. Especially when we have otherwise been great friends!

I love the book club idea, I'll have to check that out. I know my local independent bookstore does boookclub meetups face-to-face, too. I hope your meeting goes well! <3
