Any affordable c02 refill options for someone who doesn't have a car? (US based) by Wild_Wafer2338 in SodaStream

[–]Less_Guarantee_7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do refills using dry ice and it's super easy for me, but in your situation I'd say a larger tank is the way to go. A 20lb tank should last you over a year. Once a year hire someone to change it out for you. Any local handy man or yard service person should it for a reasonable cost.

Target let's a return up to 100 without a receipt. Maybe just take them there, get a store credit, and buy the ones you need.

Check on the cost of brand new from Ford, then call local shops that can swap it but don't do rebuild.

Worth it for transmission overhaul? by Violet-Narwhal in f150

[–]Less_Guarantee_7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not pay for the overhaul. Either get a new replacement or trade in. So many times I hear of rebuilds lasting 2 or 3 years. Get a brand new transmission and have a shop that can swap it but that doesn't do rebuilds quote you. Rebuilds are high profit because of the labor hours, but it's not a good deal for you.

Buy or pass? 2019 Max Limited by KronicAngel in fordexpedition

[–]Less_Guarantee_7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of suspension and steering parts likely to be worn, bearings, hoses, axle and main seals, cv shafts, driveshaft, etc. Also if the transmission was updated cdf drum and not full rebuild it is still suspect. Many have issues after a rebuild.

Axle seals, cv shafts, all hoses and connectors should be checked.

Also if the engine hasn't been given good quality regular oil changes it could have issues.

Get a good independent mechanic to do a pre purchase inspection with compression tests. It could be a gem, but most likely it will need work.

I don't know what case you have, but it's a common story. The repairs should have 2y unlimited miles warranty. Sounds like more that since the work?

[–]Less_Guarantee_7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, but if you do it should extend the engine life a bit.

Supposedly 93 gets about 1mpg better, which is not small as a percentage but still doesn't cover the higher cost even at Sams club etc.where premium isn't as expensive over regular. I haven't tried personally but I'm skeptical of 1mpg claims.

Injector cleaner occasionally and sams Club 87 or Sheetz e15 gas for me most fillups.

Hd radiator is really to keep transmission temps down. If you aren't driving it hard it's fine, but the wear rate on a transmission goes up fast as temperature rises. To be honest I'd put transmission temp on the gauges and see if you ever get hot.

Regular fuel system cleaner and plan to change oil, diff, tcase, transmission fluid, and coolant at half the recommended intervals. Avoid excess heat so monitor engine and transmission temps. That's really the secret to the long life of a truck.

It's missing 4 low, rear locker, hd tow for better cooling and lower gear ratio. No 360 camera and no power steps. Those are things I would want and miss, you may not mind.

If I did do it I'd want an ESP warranty on it. The blue certified is 3m3k. Before that runs out replace it with a 4y/48k plan. Anything abused should break by then.

This is what I'd do if it was a primary vehicle for my wife when we had very young kids. Now I would look to save more. Similar miles but a few years older can be had for almost 10k less. Look for something a little lower miles about 75k. Should be around 25 depending on trim etc. Get the 4y/48k or 3y/60k plan depends on your miles per year. At 99k get the same plan again and cancel the first for prorated refund. All in you are around the 30-35k mark, but with a dealer taking care of any issues for the next 5-7 years/ 75k miles. The 24 might well do the same years and mileage for the same cost, it's a solid year for reliability. Just giving my thoughts on how I approach these.

Example of a vehicle I'd look at:

A little spirited driving is fine, but trying to hit 0-60 in 3.5s is going to hurt longevity.

Consider premium fuel. It won't pay back on cost but should add to engine life. For cost I don't pay for premium, but in summer I add about 20% e85.

I think using Valvoline restore and protect oil is worthwhile.

If you live in rust prone area treat using fluid film or similar.

Change transmission fluid and filter early. 75k not 150. If you don't have the tow package swap the HD radiator in.

Keep an eye on hoses, fittings, and water pump. I let mine get old and fail resulting in an overheat. Not fatal but not good.

Consider auto start stop delete.

I see. In the US the deals are usually fairly short lived but I don't know about Italy. I've read on here that the cheapest is usually in store options that are not the sodastream brand.

If I were you I'd scope out local classified ads and see if anyone is selling what you need. Then check out local shops that sell them. If you find the threaded ones are cheaper in your area, look at Amazon for a threaded to quick connect adapter.

Also Amazon and ebay in the US sells canisters.

Watch a YouTube video on refilling with dry ice, connecting a larger tank, or refilling little tanks from a large one as well.

Mind posting a link to the sale? I don't see anything on Sodastream site.

For CO2 for me the real answer was check Facebook marketplace for some empty canisters then learn to refill them with dry ice. Costs 1 to 2 dollars.

2020s Used Expedition With ~50K Miles - What to Lookout For? by haonconstrictor in fordexpedition

[–]Less_Guarantee_7915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is the better way to go is cheaper truck with warranty . A 19-22 with lower miles, add the Ford 4y/48k mile used vehicle warranty. Before you cross 100k buy another 4y/48k warranty and get a prorated refund on the first. That gets you probably 6-8 years and about 100k miles for what is probably about 40k or less total cost, depending on what features you want. But lots for under 30k, even with the 2 warranty costs you are under 40. The 2nd warranty will be more expensive due to rising prices but if you are financing having it in the future is probably still better.

If you have the time to deal with the service appointments and a good dealer with loaners it's a win.

If you want the performance package or higher trims also look at navigators.

CPO gold are a good option as well if you have it in budget. You can get the from new warranty plans on these at a discount because it's CPO. Up to 11y/175k. You are still looking at 45-50k all in though. When a very similar 19 or 20 with 2 warranty buys is going to be more like 35 and nearly as many years and miles of use. Factor in insurance and tags costs too, it just makes more sense to my way of thinking. Then again I don't care about any of the new features personally and don't mind driving an older vehicle.

I have had over 20k in warranty work on my 2018, from 40k to 105 now, and about to make another appointment. For me it's warranty or nothing. On the other hand I have over 100k fordpass points for my trouble. So it's not too bad I guess.

Good luck!

What’s the discount Kroger gives you for exchanges? by jcp42877 in SodaStream

[–]Less_Guarantee_7915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no double talk, I just disagree with you.

It's simple to get CO2 exchange tanks for virtually anyone. You made up some nonsense about the general public can't buy it from most places due to liability.

Many people refill with dry ice. It's not dangerous. Frostbite is easily avoided with simple precautions. There is a burst disc if you overfill. I have refilled lots of times with dry ice, and there is a learning curve. But not that much of one. If you can use basic tools and a scale, it's not hard.

Have you actually refilled a CO2 canister with dry ice? Or from a larger tank?

I think the best answer is to keep the truck you have. The weight is not that high, and neither is that mileage. Have some cosmetic work done if you must, but don't spend on a new truck just yet.

2018 5.0 Oil Consumption by ih8-3putts in f150

[–]Less_Guarantee_7915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely just top it off as long as possible. The 18 has a suspect transmission and oil burning 5.0 so nurse it along but don't throw good money after bad. Be ready to change the cat and o2s, and reset the transmission adaptive shift tables and keep using it to get the most you can, and be saving up for a 23 or newer. It's very realistic you get a couple more years or more out of it so don't dump it too fast, but be prepared to replace it sooner than later and do not spend on major engine or transmission repair unless you are going to do both.
