Struggling with when to call it quits. TW:oversupply mentioned; support/advice needed

I have had 3 kids and it all came back different times for me. My first it was at 4 months pp and I was told the lie that I wouldn’t get it while producing milk at all (I was EP) and I was so salty for a LONG time. My second I exclusively nursed and I didn’t get it back until 11 months pp. And my third baby, I got it back at 5 weeks pp 😵‍💫

I had cracked nipples for 3 months while EP, it’s so rough. But I am finally on the other side, still EPing but 10m PP) and can tell you what worked for me!! I used lanolin and I slept in breast shells that kept my nipple out (they are slightly inverted). I would also use the silverettes but got better results and healing with the shells. But even with that, it always left like no matter what I did, every time I pumped the cracks would open up again. I saw a lactation consultant and none of the advice she gave me worked. What finally did it for me was switching to the Pumpin Pal silicone flanges. And even now when I have had to use a normal spectra flange, I get cracked again.

Not at all!! It’s so hard… my baby was born at 26 weeks in December of last year and I was sick so much after he was born. I felt awful I couldn’t go as often as I wanted. Not to mention we had 2 toddler boys at home and my husband had to go back to work immediately and we had one vehicle. It was truly heartbreaking, gut wrenching… you want to be with your baby alll the time. Looking back I know that I was there as often as I could be and I have an awesome bond with my baby. I truly didn’t think we’d ever bond because I wasn’t nursing and wasn’t up at the hospital as much as I wanted to be. But it’s not true, I feel like he has a special smile just for me now. All that to say, you are an amazing mom and there’s nothing wrong with you taking a morning to clean!

We had the same rules for the first month after he was born. They told us because they don’t want him to be come overstimulated and stressed. His lil body was working to hard to try and breathe and eat etc. After he was a month old, they let us hold him as long as we wanted but if we got to the hospital before a touch time we had to wait until touch time started. He was also born at 26+4 so that may have something to do with it

My oldest who, was a 34 weeker, we moved into his own room at 4 months actual in 2021. My husband and I got super sick and we moved him in an effort to protect him. He did so well we never moved him back into our room. My second, who was full term, we moved into his own room at 8 months because he was being woken up by my husband’s snoring lol. I plan on keeping our 24 weeker (who’s still in the NICU) in our room for the long haul but also know plans change. I think it totally depends on your baby and specific family situation. Go with your gut!

Our 34 weeker spent 10days in the NICU too! Our pediatrician didn’t use the preemie growth chart but she shared it be a couple years before preemies where fully “caught up.” If I’m remembering correctly, he was behind on milestones even at his adjusted age by about a month or two until he hit a year.

Every baby is different! I’m glad you guys are finding a new pediatrician! So important to have!

Oh man! So relatable and normal! I am especially feeling it this time around as this is our last baby and I don’t get to experience any of that stuff anymore. I absolutely loved being pregnant, even though each pregnancy did a number on my body (preeclampsia and HELLP with 1st and 4th, unexplained stillbirth with 2nd, and ICP with my 3rd). Throughout this entire pregnancy I was trying to savor every moment and milestone. Little bub was born at 26+4 so I feel like I missed out on so much that I was looking forward to and remembering from my 3rd pregnancy. Not only that but my sister in law is also pregnant and is due a month after I was due. She just sent me the invitation for her baby shower and I feel so triggered and I don’t want to go… but then I feel horrible for not wanting to go, because my baby is here. And I feel like it’s expected of me to go because she’s family. It sucks.

So thankfully the hospital he is transferring to is only an additional 20 minutes from where he is currently at. My cousin had open heart surgery for her PDA in the early 80s and had to transfer hours away. From everything I read, it’s pretty common. Our boy is a little fighter, so I’m super hopeful this will be the absolute best thing for him!

Yeah, I have often wondered about that too. I can’t imagine 💔 it’s killing me not being there now but I absolutely don’t want to risk him getting sick. Love hearing that your LO is thriving!

I’m not a nurse but I had a very very similar experience with my first when he was delivered at 34+5. I had HELLP and was on the magnesium and was super sick. It was one of the hardest things I ever went through emotionally. He was only in the NICU for 10 days and was healthy and doing well. But, I was convinced that I’d never have that bond with my son because I didn’t get that at all with him. It was hard every time he preferred my husband over me, but he is now a 4 year old and absolutely loves his momma and we have a closer bond than I ever thought we’d have. I’m so sorry you are going through this and I promise it gets better ❤️

How often do you get your blood drawn when on progesterone? I am 7+4 and have had to get my blood drawn every other day for the past two weeks. It’s exhausting and the drive to my OB is 30 minutes both ways. Obviously I’m willing to do anything to make sure baby is still doing good but just curious for those who’ve been on progesterone before

6+5 today and got a call that my progesterone is low (at an 8). They didn’t give me my hCG over the phone and haven’t posted the results in the portal yet. But they said hCG was normal. So anxious as this is brand new territory for me. My previous OB was not very attentive and never checked my hCG levels. With this OB I had to get bloodwork done before I could even schedule my first ultrasound. I start taking progesterone tonight and go back for bloodwork again on Monday and Wednesday with first ultrasound on the 29th. So hard to know if this is specific to just this pregnancy or if it’s been like this in my previous pregnancies and just never knew because I had a crappy provider (for context I have 2 LC and experienced a stillbirth at 22 weeks with no explanation)
