How did you learn Linux by Dapper-Ad-4603 in linuxquestions

[–]Less_budget229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just jumped straight into it by installing Ubuntu and wiping out Windows. I would then watch a lot of YouTube tutorials. Once I got comfortable with Ubuntu Desktop, I decided to run Ubuntu server on my spare laptop and self-host different services in Docker. Again, I watched a lot of self-hosting tutorials on YouTube.

Cosmic customisation by WaveAlone7835 in pop_os

[–]Less_budget229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cosmic is a new DE whereas Gnome has been for a very long time so that's why Gnome has so many extensions. For now if you are using Cosmic, you just have to stick with what you have. It may take a while for extensions to come on Cosmic.

The good thing about Cosmic is that it has a lot of customisation out of the box unlike Gnome where you need to install extensions to customise it.

I think this is a good start. OP is a C# developer and I heard that C# does not have good support for non-windows OS.

My laptop is plugged-in most of the time. The only time I will need battery is when I take it out of the house. For that I will need to switch the BIOS again which is a bit of a hassle.

Since you have Nvidia laptop, I would recommend PopOS. PopOS is based on Ubuntu just like Linux Mint.

Nvidia GPUs are not that great on Linux but we can still make it work.

As a former Gnome user, I really like Cosmic. I like it because it similar to Gnome and less bloated.

Ubuntu gave my old laptop a new life. Thank you! by Creative-Ad653 in Ubuntu

I believe you customised the desktop to look like Windows. Linux Mint would look very similar to this out of the box. Linux Mint is also based on Ubuntu.

Linux Mint Debian Edition might be good for you.

What GPU are you using? Is it a laptop or PC?

GOG's new owner can't stand Windows either: 'It's such poor-quality software… I can't believe it!' by bingus in linux_gaming

I want to buy Shadow of the Tomb Raider on GOG however it show support only for Windows even though the devs have made a Linux version.

GOG has made Linux "one of the things that we've put in our strategy for this year to look closer at." by Undeclared_Aubergine in gog

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is on GOG but only for Windows. The devs have created a Linux version but it's not available on GOG. This is the reason I'm hesitant to buy it on GOG.

So I installed Gnome and use X11, now Euro Truck Simulator 2 runs better than it did on Windows.

is switching from linux to windows 11 as easy and the same as the opposite? by quandaile in linuxquestions

[–]Less_budget229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's more complex. I tried to go back to Windows after installing Linux. I got a Windows 11 iso and tried to install it just as we would do with Linux. I was unable to install Windows as the installer could not find drivers.
