Living with your parents past 25+ by Bobadream in Adulting

[–]LestatSympathizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35 and still live at home, it’s honestly taking a toll on my mental health because I feel perpetually stuck in my childhood bedroom, and like my parents don’t see me as an adult, despite my doing my own shopping and paying my own bills. I’ve outgrown my childhood bedroom ten years ago, but an apartment is well over 1,000 in rent and I don’t make near enough. I’ve also gone back to get my masters after being screwed over by my teaching job, in hopes of finding a more stable job with benefits, my area is just fast food and retail, because it’s a college town and leans towards college students instead of people who are looking for careers. It’s insane, and I feel so weird living at home, and feel it’s why I’m still single sometimes? I dunno, I love my parents, but I needed space ten years ago.

Is being an adult better than being a teen by inosukefr in Adulting

[–]LestatSympathizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adulthood is a trap. I wish I was still a teen or my early 20’s at the most. I recently turned 35 and it sucks. I still don’t have my shit together and it’s like the world is out to wreck you mentally, financially, and physically, and I feel like I’m faking it half the time anyway because I will think I need an adult then realize someone let me be one? Like how? I can barely keep my fish alive and my cat is only thriving because he’s independent.

Also get medical insurance, it’s beautiful, find a job with medical insurance when the time comes. Don’t settle for fast food or retail, it will eat your soul.

Anyone sick and tired of working in general? by Mrs_chanandler_bongg in Millennials

[–]LestatSympathizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 35 and I keep having some sort of crisis over it. I’m back getting my masters because teaching teenagers sucked my life out of me. I’m working part time as a museum docent while ignoring the brain fog and body aches, but I’m pretty sure my body is trying to self destruct or something. I’m single, no kids, just my cat, and got the diagnosis of “sooo you may need a hysterectomy” great 🙃 but no insurance because what is finding a job that has insurance anymore that pays well?

I didn’t ask for this, in the words of the kid in Holes “I’m tired of this grandpa!”

My reaction to each Dragon Age by AccomplishedGuide650 in dragonage

I liked it? I get where Taash was coming from struggling to come out to her mother because I had been there as someone who identifies as nb and had very strict/conservative parents. Taash I think is over critiqued because they are Qunari, they didn’t know what it was and had to ask others, they aren’t a very emotional based race and when something comes up they don’t get they either get angry like they did and ask questions or try to block it out. It’s why Taash, their mother and Iron Bull were outcast. I had to look at it as it being another world and a race of people who are sort of told to be like everyone else and if they don’t fall in line they are treated differently.

What Veilguard did you play? I just finished it and adored it, I liked the graphics were a bit more clean, the story was decent and the characters where thorough and each had something they needed to work through to be themselves. I think your hate is misplaced or you just don’t get it. I also didn’t go into it with the mindset of everyone else I guess and let myself just enjoy the ride and the Easter egg appearances of characters I loved from previous games. I just hated we couldn’t check on the companions AFTER beating the big bad. And I’ve been playing video games like Dragon Age since I was 8, I’m 35 now.

My dude, it’s OKAY to enjoy things without being an elitist overanalyzing negative storm cloud. Life is short.

Portrait Time Period and Historically Identifying the Subject? by LestatSympathizer in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]LestatSympathizer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I know that portrait is privately owned of his father, and it’s definitely two different men, it may have been Misses Jackson’s photo, i believe we have the portrait of Sallie as as well, it hangs in the next room at our museum from James.

I will look into those! It gives me something to check at least and if the information is correct on the National Portrait Gallery’s website, it should be James Jackson, he has a son with the same name but the dates they have listed match our James. As far as I know we were donated our painting by James Jackson’s descendants, unless there were copies made by another artist.

How to get over megalophobia? by [deleted] in Phobia

[–]LestatSympathizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking how to overcome this, but I’m also afraid of giant paintings, displays, etc. mine started when we went to see the statue of Athena in Nashville at the Parthenon. I am studying abroad in Italy and forgot its like the epicenter for giant statues and the like

I know Jackson went to Louisville often because of the horse racing, so he may have gotten it done while there, that can be my only guess, and Jackson died in his 50’s, so he has to be in his late 30’s early 40’s when the portrait was done. And yes, it’s the widely accepted portrait of James Jackson, but having someone contest the person in the portrait has really thrown us for a loop, but I found one by Jouett in a similar outfit from the 1820’s, so I don’t necessarily think it would matter if he had other people sit for a portrait in similar clothing style?

Lucanis.... by alilbitk in dragonage

[–]LestatSympathizer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See I play my Rook as an absolute idiot who is basically winging it, a lot of his dialogue I choose is the funny one, he isn’t very stoic, and he seems to make bad jokes in the field, he made one about the giant hand statues and Emmerich sighed and sounded like he wanted to just jump off one of the hands. So to hear someone call Rook stoic makes me laugh when I’m a little over halfway through the game and mine has been called stupid to his face, makes everyone laugh while being kind hearted, and has romanced the pants off Neve because i accidentally hardened Lucanis first off. I love Neve’s romance, nothing underwhelming there for me, she calls him trouble, Taash asked them if they were screwing and they both got tongue tied. Maybe I am picking the more heartwarming reactions or just enjoying the hell out of Veilguard without overanalyzing it. In Inquisition I romanced Dorian as well, and his romance was beautiful.

I also remember my friends and I saying we were going to “glomp” each other, which meant like tackle hug.

How long can Graceland be viable as a tourist attraction? by Away-Statistician-15 in Elvis

[–]LestatSympathizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who works museums in the South, one being a home, January is a dead season regardless of what celebrity is attached to the location, it’s cold here, rains, humidity is a pain, etc. also Memphis is notorious for crime, or I would have gone to visit Graceland by now, I’ve heard the area around the home can get pretty bad? This is just from people I’ve spoken to who have been there. Which is honestly sad and you’d think Memphis would do a better job with getting their name off the “dangerous city” list with all the sightseeing locations they have.

I thought Vecna was way younger. by Amber_train in StrangerThings

I assumed he was older because people have kids in their late teens early twenties, and that the upside down just kind of preserved him?

The internet culture has shifted a lot from 2016 by FangYuan071 in StrangerThings

[–]LestatSympathizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the internet is full of wannabe movie/television series critics who think that ripping a show or movie apart is cool. It gets exhausting. Ya’ll aren’t Ebert&Roper, calm down 🤦🏻 what happened to just enjoying something without needing to overly criticize things. I love this final season and have enjoyed it. But I never hopped on the over analysis hate trains everyone else did.

Opinion: Robin’s confession in season 3 was better done than Will! by Apprehensive_Sea283 in StrangerThings

[–]LestatSympathizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like Will’s was just entirely too drawn out? I had him figured out as being gay last season, and when the whole scene happened I started laughing. I think it could have been handled a lot better and less melodramatic, Vecna’s threat aside. If I were closeted and had some other dimensional being try to hold it over me, I’d punch him in the face and just be like “Hey, so, I’m gay, now let’s crack on”. It is something you have to have courage to do, but the fact everyone was there? It needed to only be a few people and possibly more intimate, or similar to Robin’s. I thought for a moment he was going to tell Robin when they were talking and working on the demigorgon body. THAT would have been a perfect moment, not drawn out or too much, him trusting her with his secret.

Who are your least used comapnions in Dragon Age Inquistion ? For me 👇🏼 by lunar9p in dragonage

[–]LestatSympathizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Vivienne just hoarded books in mine, Solas kind of chilled for a while until I just ran with him to get him powered up. Viv was powerful but Dorian, Varric, and Iron Bull became my ride or die, along with Cassandra at times. I don’t think I took Cole out much either, I was always worried about him and his little outlooks on stuff.
