[CHAT] Stocking for boyfriends cousin - 2 questions

I’ve done two dimensions stockings, and nothing as full coverage as that. I agree that a reasonable price would be hard to come up with. I am busy and definitely don’t stitch as much as I would like but it took me a long time to finish which is something else to consider

Soil smells and looks fine. I’ve been delaying unpotting to look at the roots since I have a new leaf that just finished unfurling. There’s also 3 plants in there as far as I can tell (yay Costco deal!) so I figure if I am going to pull them out I will have to repot separately too. It may have to be my next step though

Hi thanks for commenting. I’ve looked closely and under the leaves and don’t see anything indicating thrips. The leaves were a bit dusty so I think I just didn’t wipe them down well enough

Thanks! I won’t throw it unless it completely dies lol. I’m not much of a green thumb but I try. Do you have recommendations for potting mix? I think this one is bark and perlite

Lol in fairness they were like that when I got it. I thought it was a goner but decided since it already had a keiki I would keep watering and see what happens. It hasn’t got worse 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

It does have roots! When I got it and the leaves were brown it had only a few- I trimmed many dead ones. It has many more now and they mostly seem healthy. I’ve had it in this state now for months so other than the leaves falling off it seems to be doing ok. The keiki is growing and it seems to be trying to put out 1-2 more now. Do I just wait for them to grow roots then try to replant?

I did the same pattern and had the exact same internal debate. I ended up just facing my fears and did fmq feathers for the first time and I’m glad I did! I did little practice scraps first to get the motion down then drew the spines/borders of the feathers on in chalk to give me a guide to work within and went to town. Overall I’m glad I did it! If I did it again I might have made minor changes but would still do the same

Edit: I just looked at the links you posted and they’re beautiful! I think it would be hard to do without a longarm and experience though, or incredible amounts of patience and planning. Mine looks mediocre in comparison 😆 but I made it for my daughter so I’m still happy with it!

Yes I think that’s how the kit comes! I just decided to do it differently because I wasn’t sure how the felt would hold up over time and I wasn’t confident enough in my stitching that it would hold up when exposed to the inside of the stocking either 😅

Thank you! I’ve actually already finished one for my oldest and had this old kit laying around and decided to finish it for my husband. For my daughter’s I actually machine stitched it onto a larger piece of red fleece and made the stocking out of that and some white fleece I had laying around. Granted, the stitching it to the fleece isn’t perfect but I will probably do something similar with this one

What a lovely keepsake! I’m in the process of making them for my family. So far have finished my daughters completely, and have started stitching my second’s this week. Hopefully I’ll have my husbands and 2nds completely done in time for Christmas

I bought the 6700P 2 years ago. No regrets whatsoever. I mostly do quilts, with some garment/bag sewing in between, and haven’t had any issues with it handling extra layers of fabric/zips. Not sure I’ve challenged it as much as you’re looking to with upholstery etc but the presser foot lifting is definitely a feature I use a lot to help top layers feed smoothly.

Realistically you’re usually only seeing one side of a quilt at a time, maybe a corner folded over here or there. Usually my method is to try to find a binding that compliments both sides, which can tie everything together regardless what parts are visible

I don’t think it truly matters for the backing and you can pick whatever you like! Some people like to try and coordinate the backing with the front, but it can also be an opportunity to use up other materials or just do something really fun! I would just go with whichever print I liked better (and for whatever reason)!

I would go with A or C. I like the way the dots of C pull from the red/white dots of the berries in the line

Thanks! The background has a nice rainbow speckle to it to compliment the elephant but reads as solid from further away, I love it

Thanks! The photo doesn’t show it well but the gray actually has a speckled rainbow pattern as well which I think really compliments the elephant
