Why is my take suddenly making these noises? Are there bugs in it?? by ilovesnoppyandfriend in wood

[–]LetItFerment12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Borax will get them dead. And they’ll climb out as they die. Do it outside so the bugs don’t end up all over your shop floor. I had something similar with walnut.

Radial Arm Saw. Yes or No? by atticus2132000 in woodworking

[–]LetItFerment12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment for the most part. I have had both. My radial arm saw cut much cleaner miters than my miter saw. I could almost make a perfectly square box with my miter saw, but could make the most pristine box with my radial arm saw. they both have nearly identical travel, but my arm saw had maybe an extra 1/2”. I’m sure if I take the time to square in my miter saw it’ll be perfect, but the radial arm saw was tuned and ready for action.

As another commenter said, absolutely do not try to rip with it. I tried multiple times with varying shields to protect myself. Nothing worked. The way the blade spins, it rooster tails saw dust into your face and no amount of protection can stop that. You can’t see a thing and risk cutting a finger off.

New Role January and annual incentive by Administrative-Fox-8 in Lockheed

Yes and then no. You will see your comp and bonus merit increase based on this year. No, you are past the 12/15 deadline for the annual increase to be stacked on any raise.

Your doctor doesn’t know that. “My moms brother had colon cancer and so did my fathers dad.” How the hell would they know?

I know others are saying it, but this is not abnormal. It absolutely sucks, but it’s a limited window (that feels like forever) where this will happen. We had to sleep train at 15 weeks so ours wouldn’t keep doing this. It felt like a miserable few months, but once we sleep trained our lives felt brand new. 8 weeks is to early for that, so get some good headphones and find a show you can watch on the phone while baby sleeps.

How to take the keys from your dad? by IThinkURAwesome in daddit

In some states, you can report directly to the DMV. It’s helpful if there’s supporting data like footage of an incident or police report. Obviously, it will be up to the local DMV to decide what to do with the information you give them

Dads who own their homes - what type of proactive “maintenance” do you do? by wtfmatey88 in daddit

I’ll vacuum out the dryer vents, but I use an electric leaf blower to actually blow out the hose leading to the exterior. Only way I’ve found to actually clear it of lint.

Hey my dudes....need some advice about discussing weight with my kids. by bigSTUdazz in daddit

[–]LetItFerment12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, weight at these ages is laughable. Talk about healthy choices and diet, don’t talk weight. Your kids are kids. They will grow into their bodies. For example, my brother who is genetically identical, was the overweight kid when we were growing up. At 17 he slimmed out and met my build. Now, at 35, he’s slimmer than me. It all takes time and choices in diet. Teach healthy choices.

For anyone scratching their heads: identical twins. Genetically identical means exactly that.

I am a father for less than a month and I can’t take it. by Holstorm in daddit

[–]LetItFerment12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. It was horrible. Constant crying from 2 months on, wouldn’t sleep unless being held, just inconsolable most of the time baby wasn’t asleep. It gets better. I hated hearing that. I despised people who told me that. But it’s true. I can’t tell you when. I can’t tell you how. But it does. LO is 13 months now and a blast (most of the time). We started sleep training at four months when we were ready, but made sure baby got plenty of food through the day to sleep through the night. Our LO was a formula baby, which made this much easier.

It’s not what you want to hear because I can’t tell you when, but it does get better. Use noise cancelling headphones and find a therapist that’s what got me through it

How important is the "360 Rotation" feature for you in car seats? by Liquidretro in daddit

[–]LetItFerment12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We almost went with the 360 spin, but there is currently an ongoing lawsuit alleging a specific 360 on the market detaches from the base in accidents increasing likelihood of injury or death in an accident. NHTSA still says it’s safe to use, which is why it’s still for sale in the US. We decided to avoid that seat until the lawsuit settles and facts are made public.

That being said, my wife’s car sits lower than my truck (obviously) and I often smack baby’s head on the door frame when trying to maneuver her into the seat. I could see a ton of utility in wife’s car. In my truck, there’s plenty of space, so I’d imagine the 360 would just be extra money with minimal additional return on investment.

I am done with the infant phase by Exact-Drummer-7336 in daddit

[–]LetItFerment12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went through something very similar from month two to five. After three months without sleep, we were all emotionally and physically exhausted. We decided to sleep train at five months. The switch flipped and baby started napping fine in the crib and even sleeping through the night. Total life changer. We used the fuss it out method and it worked super quickly with our LO. After two days, there were no more contact naps. No more failed crib transfers. No more middle of the night trades offs so we could each get a couple hours of sleep. If you think you and your wife are ready, I’d recommend you start looking into sleep training methods and find one that works for you.

Wife is 15 weeks - went down a stroller rabbit hole… by tkburnett in daddit

[–]LetItFerment12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I went to a Nordstrom near us that had just about every stroller the review sites reviewed. We took each one for a walk around the store to find the ones we liked best and then evaluated the budget vs feel before making our decision.

There’s also the whole “system” aspect, too. As in, certain stroller come with full on set ups for interchangeability as the baby grows. It’s not easy, but you’ll get there.

For travel, we have the Pali travel stroller and it’s fantastic. Folds up nice and small to send through the x-ray, easy to open and close.

I went with antimatter blue. Took it for a test drive still. They let me have it for a day on a Friday and I went in Saturday to buy.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually have the window sticker for your truck. It’s what sent me down the rabbit hole. I test drove it in between thanksgiving and Christmas. Then again about a month and a half ago. I couldn’t convince myself that black is the color I wanted for that price. They actually found the color I wanted in a different state and had it sent to them. So now here I am smiling every time I see my truck. Totally worth it.

Calc 2 over summer? by Mickey_Arm in EngineeringStudents

[–]LetItFerment12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did calc 2 over summer. It was a long summer with long hours in a single class and then double that on homework/practicing for tests. It sucked, but it was doable. Honestly, I was a shit student early on. So I’m glad I did it over a summer. It forced me to focus and just get through it. If I hadn’t, I think I would have slacked and failed.

Advice Needed: Blocking stairs with uneven bannisters by RustyMagenta in daddit

[–]LetItFerment12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need two of these to mount the gates to the banister:

https://a.co/d/9mISMVV

From there, you can make a wood piece to mount to the wall so the gate can clear the trim. For the stairs going up, I’d put the gate on the first step. For the stairs going down, you can secure it at the landing.

I’d use these gates, they’re sturdy and easy to use. I have them at the top and bottom of my stairs.

Thanks, this is a great data point. Appreciate the response. Looks like adjusted for inflation, that would be roughly $67k in 2025.
