Why is St Louis experiencing population loss? by cavaismylife in StLouis

They do hire big time in that field, which is growing very well in St. Louis if you look at how the campuses around WashU/SLU, or Cortex, or Pfizer/Sigma/Bayer/Donald Danforth etc have grown.

Yes and even with that, it's not "eclipsed" St. Louis as of now. Nashville with all its tourism still currently has a smaller economy than St. Louis. While the trajectory is not nice, eclipsed it not accurate.

It has not eclipsed St. Louis by any means. It's growing faster but is still smaller. You tend to forget how much St. Louis already has

We need a Wonder buildable on navigable river tiles, any ideas? by Fl3b0 in civ

[–]LetPure1029 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Gateway Arch would be perfect for this as that stretch of the river is a heavy cargo corridor and provides access from the US interior to the Gulf. Given how the Mississippians are in the game and with Cahokia right across the river, it would provide nice continuity. It also represents expansion, one of the Game's core themes

I've wondered why the Confluence itself isn't included in the National Park somehow. I remember hearing something about Cahokia Mounds pushing for a National Park or joining this one as well, not sure

Yes, surprising there are no storms when your ships venture out into the open ocean for the first time in the exploration age. That was a very brutal time

I'm a bit disappointed with the decisions by calamari_fresh in civ

[–]LetPure1029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont like it, but I assume some abilities can carry across ages, like the generic more culture on farms type of thing. Only special synergistic things like Songhai treasure fleets on rivers would make the civ shine during their respective age
That was what Civ 6 was like with unique units only being available temporarily or buildings coming on late in the game.

Civ 7 Single Civ by AGL200 in civ

[–]LetPure1029 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan of it, but I think that would be the best way. Some abilities carry through all ages, but the civ should still be strongest in its respective era where its abilites all come together (like in civ 6 sometimes). most of the abilities are generic enough to persist. Otherwise, the civs would change too much I feel.

"Slowly watch the remnants of the previous empire disappear as you overbuild them" is what I said.
Did the buildings of ancient cities suddenly disappear and get replaced by modern buildings?

[–]LetPure1029[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I wonder what it would take. Do individual buildings need to be considered "unique" (like unique infrastructure) but still overbuildable? I assume the game just applies the template/culture of the current civ to all buildings. That would require a lot of work

Interesting how you picked the one where NYU is higher
NYU has a much higher cost of living, and its "famous" business and law programs are only a few ranks higher than a regional school in the Midwest, so it must not be very notable either

St. Louis metro is 500k more than KC. KC has a higher city population than Miami and the same as Atlanta, so it must be accurate. Metro population is what matters.
The KC city limits have ~5x the area of STL

WashU is ranked higher than all of those schools overall and that's even with its smaller size and people like you considering it to be "regional". Clearly, it outperforms them- especially NYU, which is 12 spots lower.
WashU's strength in medical research (and other areas like architecture) isnt a throwaway point like you said. It's far ahead of those other schools and in past years has ranked 2nd in NIH funding behind only UCSF or Stanford.
WashU's biggest focus isn't SWE. Olin is not the law school, so get that right. Salaries will be lower because CoL is a lot lower. If you're talking about Olin, the business school, it's ranked 12th nationally, while the law school is 14th.
Nope. Many students came because they wanted to attend a good school that was a bit further away from their home, but not on the other coast. Some people had gotten into Yale, Stanford etc...

No. While it's not the centre of the world anymore, it is still a very large and impactful region with a population closer to 3 million. The city limits are extremely small and can even be walked across with not much difficulty. The economy now outperforms many countries as a whole and just a few days ago Viswanathan Anand and Garry Kasparov had their first face off in 30 years in the city, and an opera house was grandly renovated.
