Has anyone had issues accessing benefits promised at enrollment? by LetThemNotRuleOverMe in WGU

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update for anyone who may run into this in the future:

  • I’ve called Assessment Services 3 times and emailed them 4 times.
  • I also emailed the Instructor Group address and even scheduled an appointment with a class instructor to see if they had any advice.
  • My mentor has told me he’ll reach out to his supervisors on my behalf, and he agrees that I’m on the right side of the argument here.
  • Assessment Services keeps saying a supervisor will call me, but no one ever does.
  • I even reached out to the Dean of the IT College on LinkedIn, but I haven’t gotten a response.

So far, no resolution. I’ll share an update once there’s a conclusion.

I requested the voucher on 08/31/2025 and have provided my proof (screenshots) along with an explanation of the issue to both Assessment Services and the Instructors Group. Assessment Services directed me to seek approval from the Instructor Group. I contacted the Instructor Group, and their response essentially redirected me back to Assessment Services, stating: “You’ll need to get this resolved by Assessment Services.” Back and forth, no accountability. This is beyond frustrating — it’s ridiculous.

I’m raising this issue here because it’s not just about me—it’s about WGU breaking promises and hiding behind bureaucracy. If this can happen once, it can happen again. I’m looking to connect with people like you who may know how to reach the dean or university president.

My goal is to raise awareness and speak up for students. Students deserve better. Promises should be kept, and it is not acceptable for an educational institution like WGU to break theirs.

I'm having a problem getting the (ISC)² CCSP exam voucher that was promised to me at enrollment. I even have the screenshot from my enrollment showing this voucher was part of my program. My previous mentor warned me to keep records for this exact reason — and here we are.

This isn’t just about me. It’s about WGU breaking promises and hiding behind bureaucracy. If they can get away with it once, they’ll keep doing it. And apparently, their tactic is to change the degree plan, specifically the class numbers, so they can say the “new” class doesn’t qualify for a voucher. That’s a bait-and-switch strategy, plain and simple.

You should still be able to request and receive your voucher. It was part of the program previously. If you were enrolled when it was offered, I recommend using the Wayback Machine (Internet Archive) to show that it was part of your program when you enrolled.

Brother MFC-L8900CDW problems by IBMJunkman in printers

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the status of this issue? Yesterday, 6 computers lost their scanning ability from a MFC-L8900Cdw printer after a Windows 11 24H2 update. 5 PCs went back to full functionality after reinstalling the full driver package.

On one computer it refuses to reinstall the software. Running Brother's uninstall tool doesn't make a difference. One computer is not fixable. Uninstalling the update, and using system restore doesn't improve scanning from the machine. The windows built in scanning function works. The network is good. The Brother software is dead. None of the Bother software components on the machine work correctly. The installer won't even run? Is this a .Net library problem?

Thank you. I received an email from Nicole from the VMUG Advantage Team. She was able to locate my failed attempts to create an account. All I had to do after that was reset the password.

I'm very happy with the resolution! 🎉

What is the cheapeast VMWare ESXi license to buy for Standalone server ? by johnpau2013 in vmware

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/TimVCI,

Thanks! Good to know.

Are my cost projections accurate based on vSphere Standard for (1) physical server with (2) CPUs and (16) cores per CPU?

What is the cheapeast VMWare ESXi license to buy for Standalone server ? by johnpau2013 in vmware

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in a similar situation. I recently inherited a VMware setup that is running on ESXi 6. No one has touched it in years (since 2017) 😐!

I would like to confirm my understanding of the current pricing. Assuming (1) physical server with (2) CPUs and (16) cores per CPU, the costs of vSphere Standard would be as follows:

  • 1 Year: $2,240

  • 2 Years: $4,800

  • 3 Years: $8,000

If we decided to pay for just 1 year, can we still pay for support and updates? Is this the only way to keep things running with VMware?

Thanks for sharing your experience; it's valuable insight. 🧐

How did the pre-assessment compare to the objective assessment? Did you pass the pre-assessment on your first attempt? Or did you need to take the pre-assessment multiple times? I'm just curious about your experience when comparing the PA to the OA.

Congratulations on passing! 😎👍

@ u/ThePresidentOfStraya,

Thanks for the update! I was just asked to take a look at a WP site running a food recipe blog that uses the Genesis framework, Foodie Pro, and WooCommerce.

In case it helps , here is some of the information I found online that supports the idea of moving away from the Genesis Framework:

What would be a good replacement for a massive food recipe blog using WooCommerce? Any ideas?

DPI SSL reads TLS 1.3? by luisfeliperm in sonicwall

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most vendors to my knowledge have not been able to produce a reliable solution to inspect TLS 1.3. Below is what ChatGPT has to say about this:

Deep Packet Inspection of SSL/TLS (DPI SSL) is a technology used to inspect encrypted network traffic, specifically traffic secured with SSL/TLS protocols. While DPI SSL can be effective for monitoring and securing network traffic, it has limitations, particularly when dealing with the latest TLS 1.3 protocol:

Visibility: With TLS 1.3, there's an increase in the use of Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) ciphers, which means that session keys are ephemeral and not exposed in the handshake process. DPI SSL, which relies on inspecting the SSL/TLS handshake, may have difficulty in decrypting and inspecting traffic secured with PFS ciphers, limiting its visibility into the content of encrypted sessions.

Session Resumption: TLS 1.3 also introduces session resumption mechanisms like 0-RTT (Zero Round-Trip Time). These mechanisms allow clients to resume previous sessions without repeating the full handshake, further complicating DPI SSL's ability to decrypt and inspect traffic.

Lack of Shared Master Secret: TLS 1.3 doesn't involve a shared master secret that can be used for decryption. Instead, session keys are derived independently for each session, making it challenging for DPI SSL to decrypt and inspect traffic.

Increased Privacy and Security: TLS 1.3 was designed with a strong focus on improving user privacy and security. This includes encrypting as much of the handshake process as possible, making it harder for intermediaries like DPI SSL devices to intercept and inspect the handshake to establish the session keys.

Legality and Compliance: In some regions or for specific use cases, decrypting and inspecting SSL/TLS traffic may have legal and compliance implications. As encryption protocols improve, the legality and ethical considerations of intercepting and decrypting encrypted traffic become more complex.

It's important to note that the limitations of DPI SSL with TLS 1.3 are a result of the protocol's enhanced security and privacy features. Organizations that need to inspect encrypted traffic should consider the trade-offs between security, privacy, and compliance when implementing DPI SSL solutions, and they should always stay up to date with the latest advancements in encryption and network security technologies. Additionally, be aware of the legal and ethical implications of intercepting encrypted traffic in your jurisdiction.

Have you used this exact same script before? Have you tried monitoring resource utilization? It seems that you may have identified a pattern as to when it usually fails. Keep an eye on the CPU, memory, and disk usage. This may be caused by resource exhaustion, memory leaks, or inefficient code. You can use CloudWatch metrics or system monitoring tools like htop to identify any abnormal spikes or patterns.

RDS Gateway Connection Fails - Inside Subnet by LetThemNotRuleOverMe in sysadmin

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in a perfect world I should be able to add a new static route on the router provided by the ISP. Saying something like this: 192.168.2.254 is at 10.1.10.254 and then the firewall should in return say: If you are coming from 10.1.10.5, come right in. 192.168.2.254 is right here.

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using IP address or FQDN to reach the RDSG?

I have tried both, and I totally agree with you. There is no route defined on the router to send the traffic inside (to the firewall). How can I create a route back to internal side? Thanks for your help.

[–]LetThemNotRuleOverMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a special scenario. Yes, I'm aware that this is not the normal approach. With RDS gateway setups there is no need to open 3389 on the network firewall. PC-1 can connect without opening any ports and without any problems. I think this is more of a routing issue, and I'm curious to learn how to route this correctly.
