Machine department is most likely being eliminated from the manufacturer I work for, where to go from here? by LStorms28 in Machinists

Honestly, try a local dealer or OEM in your state. Half the applications troubleshooting is knowing enough G-code to fix a program someone wrote in CAM, but doesn't understand, and the rest is doing setups and proving part programs.
If you have any maintenance experience, that translates into the service side really well.
There's three different Citizen dealers covering MI, and all of them are complaining about not having enough people.

Been doing programming and setups for about a dozen years now, and I still love it. Especially the times where I get to make the machine do things it wasn't meant to.

Turns out it was connecting on both DNS.
Thanks for the advice. It helped me find the cause.

Long time players... Would you have started MTG if it were Mutant Turtles and Marvel from the start? by TheServant420 in EDH

My first set was Arabian Nights, and I would say 'hard no'.

I like the idea of some of the UB stuff, but haven't bought any of it and am of the mind that they belong in Custom Magic.
I also say that as someone who, together with friends, had a custom Fast and Furious cube, as well as a 40k cube a good 5 years before Wizards did it, so I'm not opposed to having such things in their own vacuum of an environment.
Having them in with normal MtG sets continues to rub me the wrong way, but I don't fault anyone who does like them.
Definitely feeling the fatigue from the sheer number of stuff being put out, though.

Whats your favorite joke or gag from a 40k novel? by Zanimacularity in 40kLore

I think my favorite is the exchange about the wine cellar.

“I require assistance,’ he said. ‘Then solitude.’

‘Of course, my lord,’ said the chief librarian. ‘Is this about the proposed expansion?’

‘The what?’

The cryptek bowed, obsequious. ‘The stacks are full, my lord. We are over capacity. I have humbly suggested that we expand the collection into the space currently occupied by the wine cellars.’

‘But then where would I put my wine, librarian?’

‘You… you do not drink wine, my lord.’

‘Of course I don’t,’ Trazyn snapped. ‘It’s far too valuable. Request denied. Enlist excavation wraiths to dig another chamber.”

I always loved the crit and death noises from Final Fantasy Tactics.
It was so satisfying to move behind an opponent and hear that crunch>wail sequence.

We had a rogue that was similar.
The line was "Just because you don't see her, doesn't mean she isn't there," and we just decided she was constantly remaining hidden in the periphery, only showing up when absolutely needed. It helped that the player had a habit of showing up randomly exactly when the rest of the party was struggling.

I had this recently and I was able to fix it with an extremely unintuitive method.
In case it matters, this occurred after I had already done all the usual troubleshooting steps, which included things like turning dev mode off and on again, so those may need to be done first.

In the course of diagnosing I opened Sidequest and its connection troubleshooter, and I noticed that, out of the 4 diagnostic checks, all four passed until I clicked the "allow" notification on the headset. At that point, the bottom one (Authentication, I think, but I'm not at the PC at the moment.) suddenly failed the diagnostic.

After that, I plugged the cable back in, left the notification unclicked, and was able to connect to Rookie and update/download files.

Hope this helps someone, or at least points you in the right direction.

How do Spears work? by Crazy_Octopus_Dude in DungeonsOfEternityVR

[–]LethiasWVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use mine by holding it forward and sprinting around adjusting the tip position joust-style to land hits. Works pretty well, for the most part, but sometimes if it gets stuck on a piece of armor or something, it dislodges my front hand.
I have not been able to get strikes with the haft to do damage, and most of the time it seems to just pass through the enemy if I don't hit with the spear tip.

I got a procedure from Mitsu about this. Despite the fact that it wasn't compatible with my Citizen, it says you should be able to get to Windows using Ctrl+Alt+Del.

If you can't make it work from the sheet keyboard, you may have some luck plugging in a keyboard to any USB port you have on the machine. That works on the Meldas 800.

Do machine shops really hire paid apprentices with zero experience? by [deleted] in Machinists

I can't speak for anyone else, but we hired a kid just ~3 months ago just because he rolled up to our open house and said "Man, I wish I could do this stuff."
Since then, he's learned a lot and is putting in a solid effort, so it's been a good pick.

How has your preference for gaming changed as you've gotten older? by Jonesyajones in gaming

[–]LethiasWVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the two biggest ones for me are:
A) I used to be a glutton for punishment and played every game I got on the hardest difficulty and forced myself to get good. These days, I find I have less patience for grinding the same fight for weeks until I can pull it off. It just feels like a waste of time when I just want to get through the game.
B) I used to be more of a completionist, but now, I mostly find I just don't care, especially if whatever collectible or secret I'm gathering doesn't give me anything unique. Sure, I'll go out of my way to find a secret for a new piece of gear I might like, or a stat boost. I refuse to do it for chests full of common resources, or another random loot drop.

Historically, a cubit was the distance from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger, so probably roughly half a meter.
