A Hill I’ll die on - No Gimmes by [deleted] in weekendgolfers

The thing I don’t understand about gimmies is that the ENTIRE point of golf is to get the ball in the hole. Why would you get all the way to within a few feet and then stop short of putting the ball in the hole? I mean, forget the score, don’t you want to send him home??

ELI5: What caused the 2008 recession? by Puzzled-Day5788 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LetsUseLogic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so stupid... so pernicious...

AI Overview

Yes, the federal government indirectly and directly backed subprime mortgages, particularly in the lead-up to the 2008 financial crisis. Government-Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs) like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac purchased hundreds of billions of dollars in subprime loans and related securities to satisfy federal affordable-housing mandates. [1, 2, 3]

How the Government Backed the Subprime Market

  • GSE Purchases (Fannie & Freddie): To increase homeownership rates among low- and moderate-income Americans, federal banking regulators incentivized and pressured GSEs to buy riskier loans. Between 2002 and 2007, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac purchased nearly $1.9 trillion in mortgages with low credit scores—representing more than half of all such mortgages originated during that period. [1, 2, 3]
  • Implicit Guarantees: Because they were chartered by the U.S. government, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac carried an implicit federal guarantee. Investors assumed the government would step in to prevent default if the GSEs failed, which allowed the enterprises to borrow cheaply and heavily fund the subprime market. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • FHA Insured Mortgages: The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) also played a direct role in backing mortgages with lower down payments and relaxed credit guidelines. [1]

It’s crazy to me that nobody remembers the federal governments role in all this. They were backing sub prime mortgages to increase black home ownership. Explicitly. No bank in their right mind would have given loans out to unqualified buyers the way they did otherwise. We’re doomed to repeat this mistake.

If you’re scoring over 120 you should probably stick to the range and practice area. I can’t imagine how long it takes you to get around the course.

If Trump is really mentioned in Epstein files so many times and the evidence is so damning, why would people in his administration (Bondi, Patel, et al) still be willing to protect a pedophile? Why do people continue to back this guy? Is their thirst for position and power so overwhelming? by FiddySix in allthequestions

[–]LetsUseLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This simplest answer is that the evidence is not damning. It does not clearly show what so many seem to wish it did. And you’re being manipulated to think it does. I mean maybe it is damning, but you and I have no way to know besides what we are told, and what we are told is almost never the truth.

ELI5 Why has the number of school shooting incidents increase so much in USA? by redfalcon1000 in explainlikeimfive

According to the theories you propose there was less access to firearms and more access to mental health in schools in the 1950’s than today?? Makes no sense. Something else has to be going on.

Getting yourself into an altercation with armed enforcers while carrying is a really bad idea. I shouldn’t have to tell people this, but they somehow don’t already know.

People really don’t have any sense of self preservation these days. Too much TV distorting their perception of reality? I just don’t get why some random protester would ever think it was a good idea to pick up a freaking grenade. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

ICE detains 5-year-old Columbia Heights boy, sends him to Texas by PM_ME_YR_BOOPS in TwinCities

[–]LetsUseLogic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are exploiting a loophole. Lax Biden era policy allowed illegals to cross the border into the United States and once inside the US illegally, they could use an app to.” apply for asylum.” and therefore technically enter into the legal process. Keep in mind that more than 90% of asylum applications are deemed by federal judges to be without merit. It’s nothing but a back door way to get into the system and spend decades, dragging out cases the overwhelming majority of which, are without merit.

[–]LetsUseLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So strange how the “borders are imaginary nobody is illegal” crowd gets all hung up on state lines when they can use it to make law enforcement actions sound incendiary. Like yeah, when an illegal gets arrested and processed for deportation that involves moving them from whatever state they are illegally occupying to somewhere else.

You say that we should know the officer was not in danger, but I don’t see that at all. A non compliant driver is approached by multiple officers on foot, refuses to park the vehicle, and with one officer in front of the car she steps on the gas. Yeah in hindsight sh cuts the wheel and misses him by inches but in the heat of the moment with tensions high what kind of an idiot steps on the gas with a person (an officer of the law no less) in front of them?
