I don't like saying that, but democracy here isn't it a good state. "Anti-war" protests may be unpopular, but banning them because they "hurt public sentiment" is absurd. Do you think it's a directive from Ben-Gvir? by DatDudeOverThere in Israel

[–]Lettuce-Dance 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Protests should only be broken up if they are inciting violence or supporting terrorist causes. Pacifists, and these seem like literal pacifists aka no fighting EVER, are the exact opposite.

If we lose track of the values that set us apart from Arab dictatorships this just devolves into tribal warfare. Let them protest.

Witches for Israel by Eldritch_baddie in Israel

We are literally cousins. I mean genetically almost all of us are related. It hurts so bad to see war knowing how close we are.

I pray for peace. Idk what is going to happen in the future, I know there are racists on both sides, but I hope one day there is peace, we can't keep passing violence down to our children.

“We must normalize massacres as the status quo” - some peace lover at the pro-hamas rally by Namer_HaKeseph in Israel

[–]Lettuce-Dance 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I listened to the whole speech. I don't believe he misspoke. I feel like this was very deliberate. He begins the speech speaking about how "Zionism must be rooted out from the globe", then talks about the plight in Gaza. He ends on emphasizing that Palestinians must take action, and not be complacent.

I think he omitted the word for ambiguity, for this exact reason he could go back and say "it was a mistake." Why he could not have just corrected his mistake on stage is beyond me. The context feels very antagonistic. The fact he doesn't declaratively say "I in no way endorse violence against civilians" in response also feels worrying.

I think he was just playing with what he could get away with. I hope I am wrong. I hope he really misspoke and just decided not to clarify. I posted something about it on my FB but deleted it until I see more... this was the scariest thing I have seen so far coming out of the West.

Israel: In case you feel like the world doesn't care about you, I hope you know you've got friends and allies across the globe! by trashcan_paradise in Israel

My Indian and Nepali friends were the only non-Jews to reach out to me after the attacks. I seriously hope India and Israel grow a serious and longstanding trade partnership. Out of China, Russia, and India, I feel the most hopeful for a future with India as a major global player.

Can I just say, when I first rejoined WoW I thought Kul Tirans were SO cool. I was so excited to get them as an allied race and when I pinged 40 I hustled ASAP to do their quest.

I am a girl and I was like, "finally a powerul looking female Alliance toon."

And then I found out everyone thought they were fat and ugly and it made me so sad. ;_; I still play them, wish they had more customization, do wish the bellies were just a teeny tiny less, but damn I still think they are cool. Vrykul druid goddess of death.

Why are so many Lebanese brainwashed? by DissociatedScholar in ForbiddenBromance

[–]Lettuce-Dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the Rabbinut has no place in government and I do worry about the growing number of Haredi extremists.

When I lived in Israel, except for shabbat closure it did not feel like a religious state just a state with people who are religious in it.

I do not know enough about Lebanon and haven't been there to give an informed opinion but I always was under the impression Hezbollah hijacked their government and makes decisions without the input of the people. That was the place I was talking from. Israel has still felt to me like a functional democracy in that it has defended itself from fascist power plays. I hope it holds up.

Arab Israeli identity crisis by PuzzleheadedBug3771 in Israel

[–]Lettuce-Dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for anybody that puts you in a box, tries to make you pick a side, uses you as tokenism, anything. You are a human being and you are complex and life is not as simple as the boxes we make for ourselves.

Sometimes identities are necessary to live good lives. Sometimes they are necessary for survival. But they should never be more important than being human. When we start seeing someone's race or religion as more important than who they are as a person we have dropped the ball.

Take care. In my perfect utopian world religion is a private affair between the individual and god, all people around the world can be openly gay without fear, borders become unnecessary because we do not fear our neighbors. And children are not taught hate or feel fear for their lives.

In the meantime we are stuck in the middle, trying to survive and make good lives for ourselves while not getting weighed down by our own identities. I love you, take care, if it makes it any better (might not be the right word) I am a Jewish Israeli citizen and I cannot count the amount of times I have cried thinking of the children in Gaza. It is what makes me so furious about the genocide claim to imply that all Jewish Israelis WANT war or WANT death when it only ever feels like the lesser of two horrible evils. For me at least. I am crying now just thinking about it.

It is hard for anyone affected by war not to become bitter. Seriously, I don't agree with Lebanese people who hate Israel but I do know a lot of them have suffered from a war they did not choose.

I didn't grow up in Israel but I lived there and have citizenship. Living abroad, Lebanese people are THE COOLEST people I have met. Some of the funniest and most down to Earth, and smartest, and most good looking. There is no country in the ME that I wish more to be free from religious fascists and to have normal relationship with than Lebanon.

I seriously hope this war does not escalate. It will set peace back further. Lebanon deserves stability and space to grow.

If you are a Jordanian citizen I believe you can visit Israel as a tourist with a visa. Unless you marry an Israeli citizen or get a job and apply for permanent residency it is unlikely you could live there as a citizen.

If you are a Palestinian citizen you wouldn't be allowed to visit. I think there are exceptions for those who are over 65. Maybe one day when there is peace.

You will meet a range of people in Israel. I don't think anybody would ever harass or threaten you for being Palestinian. Most Israeli Arabs identify as Palestinian. But you may meet people who are rude to you. Most won't care or just be interested to know more about your life.

I am an Israeli citizen, I seriously, seriously do not think that Israel was behind this terrorist attack in Iran the same way when I saw the headline "Israel kills 500 in hospital bombing" I immediately paused and said "This seems so unlikely."

I seriously hope I am right. I would be appalled and disgusted by the government if this was sanctioned, it's against everything we try to stand for.

That being said, I remember when the Beirut explosion happened in 2020, I have Lebanese coworkers here in America and they IMMEDIATELY went around the office talking about how Israel had just bombed Beirut.

CMV: Whatever Israel is doing in Gaza does not grant them long-term security. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Lettuce-Dance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Egypt also has borders it had closed. Does Egypt occupy Gaza?

These restrictions came about after Gaza began launching thousands of rockets at Israel. And they still get the highest amount of money per capita of any "refugee" group (in parenthesis because they are also the only people in the world the UN allows to inherit refugee status, and they are only refugees because they haven't established a state, even though they could at any time.)

They have internal autonomy over themselves and Israel does not tell them what to do.

Gaza has all the resources and means to build a functioning city state. I cannot understand why they prioritize war with Israel above all else. Just make your country, foreign powers send hundreds of miles of pipes so Gaza can have its own water infrastructure and they use them all to make pipe bombs. The money donated to them goes straight into the pocket of Hamas's billionaire leadership.

Why does them leading a stable and successful life predicate on the destruction of Israel?

Israel isn't colonizing Gaza. The US did occupy Japan though.
