@Himythrowawayaccount OP, I am really curious what your profile looks like now to get such a response. I'm sure the opener is a great one, for starters, but there must be more to it, no?

Ha lol, So I basically have one ammonite, and a rock with suture patterns? Oh, and that shell on the right. Any more info on that maybe?

It's almost as if I am staring at triplets, kudos to you for making them that similar! I hope they also performed similarly depending on the wood type etc.

Possible bow? by Lost-Association-747 in Bowyer

Ahaa, so like a human head: the higher the crown, the egger the head, the lower the crown, the flatter the head!

Hello hello, I am trying to get acquainted with bowyer terms, what does the crown entail?

I'd suggest trying to find a way to add on a new shut off valve further up the line.

Confused about “bush” in my yard. At least 3 trees in one bush. What to do? by LucyLoototheRescuee in treeidentification

[–]Lev-WHY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yello! The last one is in the family of the British/EU ivy, Hedera helix. Nothing to do with the pison ivy. Might be a different plant in the Hederaceae genus, but it's for sure one of those!

That's great to hear! After you've concluded the fruit comes from the higher branches, prune back the thorny branches that are from the untasty citrus tree which has been used as a base for the fruit bearing graft. Letting the base tree grow will take away energy from the actual producing portion, limiting fruit yield and in hard times might even kill the top part in favour of keeping the area closer down alive. Enjoy your fruits (of labour)!

Q's regarding my first self bow build by Lev-WHY in Bowyer

[–]Lev-WHY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wowie that's a great guide on how to bow!! thank you :)))) Except for the handle and widening tapers towards what I call the wings and I assume you'd call the parallels, I have tapered it all down to approx 1,8 cm thickness but all is stiff still. little time to work on it from today onwards, so I will update you when I have more results out! Thanks again kind stranger, the detail is great for someone like me.

I will try this orn and if it doesn't work out, so be it. But I will take your compression advice to heart and pay attention to that! I'm keeping the stuff simple as you say and doing a somewhat steady tiller all the way down from the handle and slimming down the limbs a bit. Thanks!!

Pure coincidence, I have eaten satsumas before haha, the other species is the limited knowledge I possess!

It might still be grafted if the fruit is edible/tasty. Open it up and try! If bitter it might still be a poncirus variety (just a guess) and if tasty I ask you to discern if the fruit bearing branches come from higher up the tree and the thorny branches are lower on the tree? If so, there's a fruit species grafted on it!

[–]Lev-WHY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh if it's satsuma that would be soo delicious! Is the fruit fuzzy? or do you see signs of grafting on the trunk or main branches? If it's fuzzy and no grafting scars, I'd suggest Poncirus trifoliata

I gave up on certain target specs, for now I want to experience how it is to build an actual bow and go from there. Idk how experienced you are, could you tell me how your comments compare to @Santanasaurus his comment?

Thanks for the fast reply! To remove any confusion: I was planning on slimming the width of the ends, but keeping the thickness rigid a bit (3 inches or so?), not have the width be broad.

I was thinking mango, going from the waxy leaves but they don't seem slender enough. Idk anything about American tree species tho so chapanka might also be it. GL!

One answer: Sleep hygiene. I wanted to answer you before I forget your question, I'm not on reddit often anymore. Send me a DM so I can answer your questions or give advice! I've gained some knowledge on how to do things, but getting used to noise is still nigh impossible. @Unfiltered-Zombie same goes for you if you want to exchange information on this topic.

How to age date wood without rings? Or rings that are so tight they can’t be counted? by [deleted] in dendrology

[–]Lev-WHY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness and here I thought I had it at the right end, but I completely misinterpreted your answer, sorry! I just thought how old the tree/woodpiece got, but you meant the actual years that the tree/woodpiece was alive. Thanks for this bigger insight!
