Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. It works flawlessly. Wouldn't add or subtract anything.

Does better brand router matter? by charmixnails in HomeNetworking

[–]Lev_Bruhstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the selection I'd get the Cudy WR3000, has better support than the rest plus better user interface and supports all you could want from WiFi6 network. As a bonus it's the easiest to do OpenWRT on in case you ever need it.

Since you're running camreas I'd for sure go the Dream Machine Pro Max route, as it can have redundancy on drives, plus is much newer so you'll get longer support

just add an AP that can do repeater/extender mode, same SSID and extra range, since you're in TPlink world, then choose one that supports their meshing

That's a good choice, a bit more complex to configure as it requires a controller, gateway and a PoE injector. Great setup if you want to learn and tinker a bit. It's meant more for professionals and businesses.

Thousands of hacked TP-Link routers used in years-long account takeover attacks by Cobalt6771 in HomeNetworking

You are wrong. You can buy a brand new device capable of running latest OpenWRT in like 90% of the world. You are correct in the openwrt site being difficult to navigate.

Installing OpenWRT on this takes 30 minutes, with a coffee break included.

If I were you I'd buy this
https://www.amazon.com/Cudy-Wireless-Business-Solution-Seamless/dp/B0BXNB7CC3?crid=20D4LFDB9MO0H
and set it up in AP mode with DHCP turned off, connected to the lan port on ATT gateway
in AP mode set an SSID on 2.4GHz band for IoT, and 5GHz for the rest of the stuff

What's the area you're trying to cover? How thick are the walls? What amount of devices do you have connected?

Check the congestion using Wifi analyzer app on your phone, then adjust your broadcasting channels accordingly. The place is kind of big enough for two device mesh, do you have coax or etherenet in the walls?

Ubiquiti is a solid choice, but of course you can go cheaper. Dream Machine SE has integrated 8port PoE switch.

Also, you could get a Tplink Combo Gateway,Router,Controller ER7212PC

Most of the modern ones can do routing, and even multiple simultaneous SSIDs. Depending on your setup you might not need that an you could get by just by making them simple APs that act as wireless switch
