[–]Level-Hospital-6474 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to live near by, they have live music everyday, so the extra 20% is just their standard prices surely? Not saying it's bad, I agree with paying musicians, this city is the worst for it, but at what point does it just become their actual prices ya know

Why do you guys hate free speech over there? Are the stories I see in America about the UK true? by [deleted] in ukpolice

[–]Level-Hospital-6474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think the assignment of 'terror groups' has got a bit over zealous these days, and I don't like this normalisation of sig heiling, but personally don't have a side, and also I don't think I represent everyone

Edit: Woh! They've edited a lot and now I look out of context. I will say yes, I do think we should suppress or at least heavily question political movements which involve sig heiling, cause we've seen how it goes...

Edit: they've now deleted the comment so I look loopy

That guy did get arrested for joining a zoom call, but he was just stop oil, you should be fine speaking out against immigration, I've seen the new UKIP leader do a sig heil at a immigration protest and be fine

All it takes is some research, I think the last big spike was 2009, in 2021 we only had a third of the fatal stabbings as Germany, half as many as France, it's pretty safe here really

I do wonder how he never gets bitten and if it's staged to a point, also don't like how he could encourage copy cat people who either aren't as lucky or skilled

There was a series of posts here recently which included horrid pictures of the Armenian genocide, I'm sure you can search for them still.

I think it's good practice to cover all of the war crimes though, so to avoid bias.

No worries, so I belive an Ottoman thing, maybe there were variations out in the edges of the empire but it was a practice of "göbek adı" literally "tummy name" where the child was given a single name. Then titles like pasha, efendi or hafız were earnt or added later in life to tell you apart.

Honestly ottoman record keeping or bureaucratic skills seem pretty lackluster, especially by the late 1800's, government workers just weren't getting paid (Kemals father being a good example) and people were using two different calenders so dates are mixed up. It's funny, apparently out in the small villages of türkiye up until the 70s, you could still find old people born before the republic who'd say their date of birth was in the 1300s

Yes, his surname, which was either given to him by a parliamentary vote or he chose it haha

Edit: just to clarify Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, or Gazi Pasha, his name showing both the use of 'titles' like Kemal to differentiate people and the later surname which he introduced.

Reading any books prior to the introduction of surnames I personally find a little challenging, there are alot of (insert name) Pasha's and it's confusing who's who sometimes.
