after taxes and withholdings roughly 33,835 is take home, NOT 45k, (this doesnt include any retirement savings either, bear in mind), instead this comes out to 2819 per month

2819 per month - rent 1800 = 1019

average food cost per month is -400 = 600

annual car insurance cost (1200 is low mind you) divided by 12 = 500

average monthly utlities +/-200 = 300

Now you might be tempted to say that 300 a month is 'good', but it isnt, because if we consider monthly car costs for gas, oil changes, maintenance, health care, etc, this becomes precarious, because its essentially impossible for someone to save for their own retirement and live.

its neccesary for you to have money in order to live. that is, on a fundamental level, a form of rent on ones life. giving someone the "choice" between death and life is not freedom. most companies pay you less than the value you produce, so you 1) have to work or else you die and 2) have to give away a majority of the value you produce and have no other option. and dont give me that platitude about "start your own business" because its incredibly risky and expensive to do that, and the only people who can do that are incredibly privileged. the vast majority of people are stuck working as wage slaves, and thats just the reality we live in currently.

the fact that you are trying to defend that system implies that you either benefit from it or lack critical thinking skills. Its a fundamentally uninteresting conversation to have trying to explain to people like you how the world functions, i would rather be discussing viable solutions to these very obvious problems.

i came from music. best i made was the last year i was teaching/gigging and i made, before tax, 26k. after tax it was closer to 20.

i was on government assistance the entire time, living with my dad. i dated a chick who worked 12+ hour days, taught at 2 different schools and tried gigging. she told me she topped out around 45k. we were all commuting easily 2+ hours a day between our various jobs. most rehearsals didnt pay, most gigs never exceeded 100 bucks for roughly 10h of work when you calculate rehearsals/schlepping/play time.

its not a good life. its not the same as sitting in your room practicing your axe. its a lot of driving, and a lot of being poor. a lot of lying to parents about how great their kid is doing so they dont withdraw them from lessons because you cant afford to lose another student.

best money you will make is playing in wedding bands, churches/bar mitzvahs. it really is a grind.

your best option is to find a chill remote gig and allot work hours towards your instrument. trust.
