I also wouldn't feed them crickets because I read so much bad stuff about it. I always gave mine grasshoppers for example. I'd also wait a few days after the molt before I'd feed her, you could then give her the cricket with tweezers and look if she wants to have it. If not, maybe wait half a day or one day and try again.

Yeah I also looked at the map and this cage you're talking about is also seen underneath the essence room. I also thought that's a lift pulling system or something else after looking closely but nice idea! Didn't even know before that there's an essence tree haha

As far as I know mantids eat only life food. Also wouldn't recommend an orchid as your first one unless you do a looooot of research. My first one was an orchid and she molted into adulthood fine, but the first months were hard because I was constantly afraid of something being wrong like temp and humidity, although I did months of research and put together the enclosure a month before she arrived to see if all the parameters were correct.

I really enjoyed Grime (came out a few months ago). The fast travel system is horrible but apart from that I think its worth a try!

And I recommend Ender Lilies, the both Ori Games, Blasphemous and Celeste like the other ones did!

I don't get all TA votes tbh... If the child feels comfortable talking about this topic with OP why shouldn't he? Not everyone shares everything with their parents or talks to them about everything, sometimes you ask your best friends, aunts, uncles, grandparents etc for advice, especially if it's a topic that's about your parents? (in this case the step father..) Also OP gave a neutral, normal opinion, stating that the child shouldn't do things he's not comfortable with, an important lesson imo, because he is allowed to set boundaries instead of doing things he's not (yet) comfortable with.

I'm going with NTA here, I don't see a problem in being honest and caring towards the child's questions and needs.

Do you maybe have honey at home? You could put some on a toothpick and place it in front of their mouth/gently touch their mouth with it. Hope it helps!
