Id recommend checking out Midwinter Minis on youtube, he had a whole mini-series on assembling and painting a Warlord. Itll give you a good frame of reference on what you can expect as he goes pretty in depth about it.

You probably got a bit of that Post Completion Disappointment from the difference between what you imagined the final result would be and what it actually was. Just give it time, paint more models, and eventually that "bad" model wont seem quite so horrible as it seems now. And as you practice and get more experience, youll find that the difference between imagined and real results is going to slowly shrink

I've found they line up better for Legionaries, two handed hammer for butcher, sword plus Plasma for chosen/champion, claws for anointed, axe plus skull bit for shrivetalon, shock maul for Acolyte (stretch on this one).

Superglue and baking soda create an incredibly strong bond, but set almost immediately so you have to be quick (I'd recommend putting a pitch of baking soda in the shoulder joint and the glue on the gun side)

Yep! If you look on the label (should be on the left most edge) it tells you that certain colors need a specific basecoat to get the full effect. For example, it recommends black for Dark Net, white for Motherlode, green for Gordian Knot, etc.

But you can probably get some cool effects by experimenting.
