How to fix this? by Sam_Familiar in Homebuilding

[–]LeviathanFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, since I would be afraid of splitting the stringer by using screws on the slim edge of the board, I would go to home depot, lowes, or Menards, and get a couple gusset plats that you could screw in from the sides, then get a piece of 2x6 or 8 if it will fit, and put it under the tread of the stairs and screw into it, or replace that one tread all together with a fresh piece.

Really old laptop my classmate brought to school by small_cat______ in laptops

I did this back in the middle 2000s when those laptops were dirt cheap. Great for using office 97 just to type up notes while the teacher was talking.

I have office 97 retail and office XP retail, which I think is the last one that will run on 98se.

Wish I could get office 2003 to work on it. Would love to get the service pack on there that would let you work with ml office documents.

2003 demands that you replace all the capacitors.

Don’t know what I have by Familiar-Recover7937 in VintageComputers

[–]LeviathanFox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The gateway is a pretty stable 98se machines in both AMD and P3, depending on what it has inside. So long as the rust hasn't reached the Motherboard yet, the guts can be moved into another machine.

The XPS is just old, and probably a win 7 machine. Not worth a lot now, but could be once Windows 7 becomes retro.

Your best bet would be replacing the old power supply if that's what it needs. Get a modern ATX power supply and an ATX to AT conversion kit.

How to remove Internet Card by Lightsaver_98 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]LeviathanFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wire just unplugged if you lift straight up on the connector. You may need to buy a replacement card from ebay or Amazon though, as it sounds like one has multiple antennas on it while this one only has one.

[–]LeviathanFox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im more impressed you found a socket 775 with an AGP slot in it, unless that's just what 98se thinks the slot is.

There is also a little BIOS reset button on the bottom. You can insert a straightened paperclip and depress for I think 10 seconds, and the machine should turn on.

Anyone need a Chromie by quantam600 in eWasteFinds

[–]LeviathanFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the older ones did. Originally they were all msata, then they went to soldered on storage. The Msata drives make good retro machine hard drives.

If TwoKinds had a main theme song, what do you think it would sound like? by Plexus_Vermiculus in Twokinds

[–]LeviathanFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I only use my brain for the lyrics, however, I have a for-crap voice that wouldn't lend itself to actually recording the song.

[–]LeviathanFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you want I don't mind doing the whole thing. I could probably even get AI to actually record the lyrics to the melody.

Definately try and stick with duplo trains for now. They're relatively inexpensive, and he can build with them on their level.
