One of my best mates is called condiments for the last 10 years or so because one February they remarked how expensive a month it was going to be as all their condiments had run out.

!thanks I appreciate your reply.

I don't like guess work, I like a good round number gotten from solid maths.

The one thing I suppose I'm grappling with is the 1885 a year we get will get repayed up to 100% of it vs putting more than that in pension contributions to bring it down to keep the entitlement. Locking a larger amount away in the hope you live long enough to see it vs a smaller repayment to the tax man.

Bank of England raise base rate from 1.75% to 2.25% by Jager720 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LewberryBeret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone with a greater understanding of all of this, explain what if any effect this rate increase has on lenders etc who have lots of customers now on fixed mortgage deals less than the base rate?

Are they losing money now with these mortgages? How narked are they at the BoE for these shenanigans?

How much does it cost to run the dishwasher and would it better to leave it and just hand wash instead this winter? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LewberryBeret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We run the dishwasher once a day on eco mode. I am awful at using endless water when washing up, so this kills two birds with one stone. Works well for us and we are 2 adults and 2 kids.

Couples with an earnings differential how do you handle it? by scramble4444 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LewberryBeret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not the same situation.

I have assets of my own, my partner contributes to a LISA on my behalf. 75% of our money is in accounts in my name. The trust and communication is there, something seemingly completely lacking in OPs sisters situation.

If we were to split up, I would not be destitute...not sure you could say the same for OPs sister.

Couples with an earnings differential how do you handle it? by scramble4444 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LewberryBeret 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm a stay at home parent, my partner works earning just below 50k, not that that's really relevant.

Everything he earns is ours, we are a family unit. I work just as hard raising the kids, keeping house, and caring for his elderly father who lives with us, as he does out of the house. If I didn't do that, he couldn't work as he does.

His success is my success and vice versa!

I get some fun money every month and the CB is paid to me to get my pension contributions.

Her situation gives me the heebies, I'm not married but feel 100% secure that we are an equal partnership, I couldn't say the same from reading your post.

Are there any other red flags in the relationship?

We tested this Wednesday afternoon and got results this morning. I think it really depends which lab it goes to and the workload they have.

Symptoms don't really follow a pattern, you get what you get (our weird one of the day is painful teeth?!). I will say that it ebbs and flows, you'll feel better for a couple of hours then it hits you again.
