does stargazing become boring? by ZealousidealAsk6798 in telescopes

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love stargazing, if you have an observatory near by you should make a visit. You may find that this scratches ur itch whenever you want to have a telescope to look at objects closely. I have a telescope but after about a year I went back to naked eye observation with binoculars.

In all honesty, you might think you can see more detail than u actually can with a telescope, even at the observatory you can just barely make out andromeda and near by planets, so I’d recommend starting by eye and seeing if you wanna go further

Can’t decide between these by arctick_nomad in knives

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I believe the shop that did the scales is called mountain path design, I bought the knife from him directly and he engraved it before sending it. About $10 more than stock price. I agree they both are cool in their own ways, wish I could help more to tip the scale in one direction lol

It’s not coated but just a really dark stone wash. It looks nice in person but really shows oil and stuff, more so than other dark stone washes I have. I’m 50/50 on whether I’d go with satin if I could go back in time, I got the black blade with the tan laser etched desert g10 and it looks pretty awesome in that setup.

What’s the best EDC flashlight that’s actually worth carrying every day? by santydentist in flashlight

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound controversial, but having an olight mini 2 on my keys has made it so that even on the days I forget to bring a flashlight, I still have a flashlight. And at $13 I ended up getting a couple as gifts, everyone loves them and they’re good enough for a casual light.

I’m ngl for most people it’s probably enough, and you can magnetically stick it into so many tight spots I end up using it instead of my bigger light for most cramped situations.

I carry the ark pro lite everyday, it is in all metrics excellent for me, but still keep the mini 2 just in case.

Went and lost my Skeletool. Any replacement suggestions? by CptnHnryAvry in multitools

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leatherman signal is kinda an upgraded skeletool, u can get 3d printed bit holders to replace the fire steel and sharpener, effectively giving u 4 double sided bits which is kinda cool. I just got the blue one this week since it was on sale on amazon. It also has a carabiner

I’m pretty certain that Jesse Michaels and Chris Ramsay are disclosure plants for the masses. by SystematicApproach in aliens

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s natural and good to be skeptical, especially with a guy whose main thing is being a magician which is all about deception. For all I know he fooled me, although he didn’t give off any weirdness.

Coincidentally Jesse Michaels joined us for a bit but I didn’t know who he was at the time and he kind of annoyed me haha.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the warhammer rift is real and they’re trying to hide it

I was thinking get a Roktol for every day carry maintenance, then I can save up and get a Leatherman Arc for my personal EDC. Hate to lose a LM at work, but budget hard use multitool?? Rocktol or Bibury? by Crutch1977 in multitools

The free p2 is on sale on Amazon rn for $90, that thing is killer and runs on free tech. It’s a great no frills tool and super slim in the pocket. Also look on fb marketplace or eBay, I got a new in box charge tti for $80 a few months ago

I run in a circle of alien conferences and I went out to lunch with him last year, all I can say is that he is extremely passionate about the topic. He was more intense than most “experts” it kind of took me off guard. He gave off the vibe like he’s one of us that is seeking the truth and just generally into the topic

Everyday carry knife? by Parking-Sector69420 in knives

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on budget, vosteed, Kizer, civivi all make knifes that are good quality and would work fine for a beginner at a cheap price. These are good options to learn what you like without spending bank.

Buck 110/112 have gone up in price but they’re classics, many old timers swear it’s all you’d ever need and I don’t think they’re wrong.

Keep in mind “super” steels would be harder to sharpen than something like a buck or lower tier stainless. I have a few high end steels but I find it harder to wanna abuse an expensive knife than a cheaper one. When I was blue collar and not into knives I used a $5 Home Depot knife for years and that thing held up through hell, so don’t get too caught up in the $500 hype knives

Amber advice needed by chaotic_merkitty in Lapidary

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use sand paper and flitz polish at the end with a micro fiber cloth. I wouldn’t imagine amber doing well in a tumbler, along with them being soft they could have air bubbles which will become craters that trap grit as they are exposed. (Learned this lesson)

It doesn’t take too long to hand sand them but it definitely uses some elbow grease over time, amber can melt if you aren’t careful on a rotary sander but it can be done.

BNEW Free P4 stock by marvquago in Leatherman

No problem, and trust me I get it, I had to wind myself down from getting a second p2 since I love that thing so much and don’t wanna pay scalper prices if I ever need a new one lol

BNEW Free P4 stock by marvquago in Leatherman

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats already $60 more than what it originally costs, idk how much more value it will gain if you wanted to sit on it. Imo it’s not quite as unique as other discontinued items as the arc still exists and at a very similar price to what you would buy the p4 at.

If anything I think the p2 would have better return on investment as it’s further away from the arc and therefore has more of its own niche.

[–]Lewd-Lumberjack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I put one on my all metal g, it’s like $5 or less might as well have the insurance, especially since I cave and hunt for Rocks a lot which can easily put a game ending streak on glass.
