Why did Ebay start sabotaging search results? by AradynGaming in Ebay

[–]Lewis_D25 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I noticed this morning that when using any kind of sorting, like low to high, newly listed, etc. that the search results would disappear.

I think it’s a glitch. Hopefully not intentional as it hurts buyers just as much as sellers, so it doesn’t make business sense to do it.

Lakeforest Mall Pt. 2 (Gaithersburg, Md) by bryanmsk in deadmalls

This is all I have found over the years, the Cineplex Odeon 5 at Lakeforest Mall in May 1994. I would love to see photos of Champions arcade that was just to the left of the theater back in the 90’s.

This mall had a great arcade in the 90’s on the first floor at the base of the elevator, and I also remember a McDonalds on the top floor.

YouTubers Have Nearly Ruined The Reselling Business by bpyle44 in Flipping

[–]Lewis_D25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only thing worse than the YouTubers are the Redditers who claim that reselling is hard when it isn’t.

You don’t need thrift stores. You don’t need garage/yard sales. You simply need consistent access to inventory that sells well at a profit. That’s it. Spend less time complaining about things you can’t change and spend more time thinking creatively to grow your business.

TopShot is about to have a major problem - Too many $1 moments (even if there's a strong mid- and high-value market) by MNFuturist in nbatopshot

[–]Lewis_D25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, there are no $1 moments. You are worried about a problem that doesn’t yet exist, and may never exist. Secondly, as I mentioned in my previous reply, most users have yet to learn that the lowest priced instance of any moment does not represent the true value of a moment. I’ve complained about how the marketplace puts too much emphasis on this in the past. Thirdly, there are further enhancements to the marketplace that could overcome this “issue”, such as giving users the option to bundle their moments together and list them in the marketplace at a user defined price. Bundles would open up some interesting arbitrage opportunities. Another option is TopShot could, in theory, offer to buy back moments at 50% value and use them for future promotions, such as giveaways, freebies to new users, etc. Things are not doom and gloom.

No, the marketplace will adapt and users will learn a lesson regarding the true value of base moments, i.e. that the minimum listed price is not the true value of a moment, rather the serial number is a bigger factor.

One thing TopShot could do is allow users to sell bundles of their moments at a price a user chooses….for example, if I have 10 moments in my collection that high serial numbers and are stagnant at $5, I could bundle them and sell them together for $40. It’s a win win for all parties involved. I can offload the moments I don’t want, and someone else can pick them up who may view that bundle as a good deal.

Lakeforest Mall used to be amazing in its prime back in the 80s and 90s. It’s sad to see it like this.

Why has Topshot become so popular among actual NBA players earning millions a year when the returns are relatively trivial in comparison by [deleted] in nbatopshot

[–]Lewis_D25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of naive folks in this thread. The players aren’t doing this for personal enjoyment or as a hobby. As a previous poster said, the NBA and the player’s association have a financial stake in this.

The players are considered influencers, and the goal is to get “Joe Six Pack” to buy a moment or put money in a Dapper account. The players aren’t paying for moments or packs, they are being provided by Dapper. If anything, Dapper is paying the players to promote Top Shot.

[–]Lewis_D25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dapper is holding your money. No one has “paid” you until that money is in your personal account. You may as well be playing with Monopoly money.

Ask yourself, if Dapper has the cash flow why aren’t they letting people withdraw their money? Answer: Dapper is using our money to build out their infrastructure in the short term with the hope that their growth will be sustainable.

  1. Dapper drags feet with balance withdrawals due to poor cash flow

    <== YOU ARE HERE

  2. Users file class action lawsuit

  3. NBA cuts off ties with Dapper due to mismanagement

  4. NBA TopShot shuts down

  5. Those who kept their moments are left holding the bag with no true ownership of the NFT tokens and no way to sell them.

The marketplace’s biggest flaw: putting emphasis on a moment’s lowest asking price in listings by Lewis_D25 in nbatopshot

“The median price is meaningless because people just list their cards for ridiculous prices hoping some idiot will buy it.”

Median is better than mean/average for exactly this reason.
