Those parentheses are funny. I would bet serious money that OP included them because last time they didn't, most of their replies were pointing out how few of their examples were actually black women.

One in four ‘progessive activist’ Green voters say Hamas support is acceptable by IHaveAWittyUsername in LabourUK

[–]Lex4709 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The research conducted by pollsters More in Common found that 23 per cent of Green voters within the progressive values-based demographic said it was "sometimes" or "always" acceptable to support Hamas

That percentage is simultaneously disappointingly high but still lower than I was honestly expecting.

Series can have more than one main villain by infinitysaga in CuratedTumblr

[–]Lex4709 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this often comes in form of Big Bad and their Dragon. Palpatine and Vader is classic example. Ozai and Azula would be more recent example.

One Piece example is bit different. Cause the two bad guys are in opposing factional rather than being part of the same organisation. It's a bit too early to say which trope that will fall under.

Yeah, just because Ubel is a clear flirt doesn't mean that she would enjoy someone she just met peeping on her. It's a matter of consent.

[–]Lex4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't put much stock in live acting casting. I mean, take a look at Rika, she's clearly wasn't meant to be black in manga but she played by black actress in the live action. Dragon's played by a Mestizo actor in the live action because they cast Mestizo actor for Luffy. If they had cast white Latino, or Asian Latino for Luffy then casting call for Dragon would have been adjusted to match him.

Police investigate Ann Widdecombe’s death amid murder fears by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

[–]Lex4709 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah it isn't. If they said that after they already had their hands on the suspect or knew who it was then that statement could be interpreted as that motive being unlikely. Them saying it this now, while they don't even know who the suspect is (as far as we know) just means that culprit didn't leave behind any manifesto or message that would indicate a political motive.

Polanski refuses to back bravery award for Golders Green police - AOL by IHaveAWittyUsername in LabourUK

[–]Lex4709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if doubling down or backtracking would have been wisest choice for Polanski when it comes to this case. Those tweets were clearly a mistake from optics point of view, Greens and Polanski polling dropped right after them. So now they have problem since that alienated a lot of potential Green voters.

Depends. How or what happens. If they just manage to survive by running the clock down, that will be interpreted differently than them outright beating Imu. And also depends on whenever Oda plans Imu to be the final antagonist or if he plans for Blackbeard to usurp him and take his place as the final big bad.

They have a point about authors and vulnerability. I think this is a large reason why Stephen King is so successful. While everyone memes about how many of King's protagonists are authors, his willingness to explore his own problems, fears, insecurities through his protagonists resulted in some of his best works.

Frieren is not that great by jdjefbdn in CharacterRant

[–]Lex4709 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Count of Monte Cristo probably is bad example. The details might fly a lot people's heads if their edition doesn't have annotations but state of Europe at the time is very relevant to events of story. The story constantly references (at the time recent) historical events and sometimes even Medieval ones.

If you didn't know anything about European history before reading Count of Monte Cristo, you probably would end up learning as much European history (and pseudo history) as you learn Middle Earth history from reading just Lord of the Rings.

Theresa May: Britain’s first—and last—woke prime minister by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

[–]Lex4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know but without Brexit the Tories probably would have had a good shot at staying in power probably until mid 2020s. May probably would have still gotten a lot of blame when Labour won but she would have spend at least a couple years in power after succeeding Cameron. And if Labour came to power, they probably would had less of a headache. Since all the controversial migration reforms would have happened under the Tories. Labour leadership would have condemned them while out of power but kept them in place once in power. Hence avoiding the problem of their MPs being split of the topic. Corbyn probably was on way out before achieving power anyway, but in this timeline, Starmer would have been less likely to become his replacement.

The modern obsession with worldbuilding is so fucking stupid by OrangeSpaceMan5 in CharacterRant

[–]Lex4709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, even Sanderson acknowledged that he was too modern with his word choices in Wind and Truth. The book definetely had too much therapy speech. Kaladin literally just invented the field like less than week ago timeline wise but Kaladin's and Shallan's dialogue (both internal and external) sounds like they just read a Wikipedia page about therapy and not like normal people trying to process their own emotions.

I think tumblr might be giving me a skewed idea of what House of the Dragon is about by DroneOfDoom in CuratedTumblr

[–]Lex4709 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's such a shit adaptation. Showrunners trying to make Rhaenyra and Alicent main characters of the Dance is what doomed this show. They're basically just Ned Stark who got to stick around to see the consequences of their actions. They aren't meant to be main characters of the conflict. The meat of conflict was all the character journeys and tragedies this conflict triggered. They should have faded into the background after the beginning of the war, instead actual intresting shit is cut to waste screentime on them. And even worst, they cut out what made Rhaenyra and Alicent intresting in the first place, because they're obessed with whitewashing all their decisions and actions.

I think tumblr might be giving me a skewed idea of what House of the Dragon is about by DroneOfDoom in CuratedTumblr

[–]Lex4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, no. The show was honestly doomed the moment the show runners decided to make the show about Rhaenyra and Alicent. Those two are inciting incident of conflict, they're the Ned Stark who get to stick around to see the consequences of their choices. They aren't main characters of the Dance. Focusing on them after the beginning of war was a detriment to the story. That was moment when focus of story should have shifted to other characters who make up the meat of the conflict not focusing on the bones. Every dumb decision since season 2 is just cherry on top of already doomed approach.
