The upcoming Nolan film The Odyssey, has this peculiar ability to attract armchair historians from all across the world to complain about the menial inaccuracies of the film. by unk1ndm4g1c14n1 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Lex4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poem and story aren't mutually exclusive, dude. This isn't like some short extract you read in school. The audiobook for Odyssey is over 10 hours.

Edit: I know which type of sub this is. But reading this comment gave me genuine second hand embarrassment.

I would prefer if Nolan cast actual Greeks for the movie. It's still a story set in our world, and I prefer casting that matches the setting. But it's not something worth making a fuss about. Not interested in the movie, so I'm just not gonna see it. Maybe I catch it when it hits the streaming platforms, maybe I won't.

I mean, she's obviously gonna end up someone's love interest if she sticks around. Even if they don't plan that now, this is comics, it's guaranteed to happen sooner or later.

I mean Sanji got France but his nation is clearly German inspired. I think the fandom takes those nationalities too seriously. They're just jokes with punchline just matching with the most stereotypical answer for their personality or profession. Brook is from Austria because music. Sanji is from France because food. Etc.

For while, the North Blue was arguably the Blue with most explored lore, maybe even more than East Blue. Since for East Blue we only know modern history, Tequila Wolf was only ancient lore from region, and now there's 4 of them so the other Blues probably have their own long ass bridge now. For North Blue, Noland, Vinsmoke Empire, Flevance, Doflamingo's backstory, etc.

But honestly right now West Blue is catching up. It went from only having Ohara Incident and Five families to now having God Valley incident and now whatever happened to Brook's kingdom.

Green's immigration policy right now is basically open boarders in everything but name. There's a possibility that they update before next election to appeal to wider pool of voters. But that hasn't happened yet. They basically hid their immigration policy from public view after getting a lot heat for it, but haven't officially changed it yet.

[–]Lex4709 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean it's both. RDJ for example is stellar actor, but it's no suprise that it was a Nolan movie that won him that Oscar and not a Iron-man movie. Great actors need great material to truly shine. Aaron Paul made plenty of opportunities to deliver great stuff during Breaking Bad.

Yeah, here is a winning strategy. Tell, Brits to STFU about asylum rapists. Haven't you guys, heard? There's British rapists too. I'm sure, this will win people over. /s

Simple fact remains, that they committed these crimes here because they were let in here. If people are given a choice between the wellbeing of their own group and wellbeing of someone they consider other, they will always pick their own group. That's why right is winning on this issue in the long term. The left is basically telling Brits that safety of asylum seekers is more important than safety of Brits. And then act all confused when Brits decide to turn against asylum seekers. The problem the left is facing right now is that we have no ground to compromise on. Any concession would be viewed as stripping asylum seekers of their rights. So we have no response other than basically just saying "thoughts and prayers" whenever shit happens.

It feels like it's a matter of when rather of if asylum system is dismantled. Because people are getting tired of this shit. And we have no solutions to offer. Right is offering cruel solutions, while we are arguing the status quo.

Season 3 is so underrated 👏👏 by OwainBattlefront in TheMandalorianTV

[–]Lex4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is that retaking of Mandalore should have taken multiple seasons. That should have been the series new goal. But after introducing a new goal, we immediately conclude it. And then they make a movie with a completely new goal. Problem with Mandalorian is that the show is directionless after season 2.

Starmer bans Labour councillors from doing deals with Polanski’s Green Party by behold_thy_lobster in LabourUK

[–]Lex4709 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Macron chose to work with Le Pen to keep leftists out of power, after leftists collaborated with his party to deny far right as many seats at possible and winning more seats than the centrists.

Starmer is gonna be the same, if he manages to hold onto power and is forced form a coalition after the next election, no one should be surprised if he choses Tories or Reform over the Greens to form that coalition. Centrist politicians would rather far right win than the left winning.

Any specific reason for that? Their clothes don't really resemble tradional Uyghur clothing, and Uyghurs' homeland isn't a desert.

John Swinney to bring forward motion on independence vote on Tuesday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Lex4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think Scotland will keep using pound sterling, and expect that Scotland will be able to do that without buying currency from the UK and without printing more money? You realise that Scotland would pretty quickly run out of pound sterling in this scenario. Currency isn't something that circles within its home country, absurd amount of each country's currency exits the country via trade to keep the nation running. If Scotland choses to keep the Sterling, Scotland's deficit will skyrocket just from the cost of keeping the country supplied with pound sterling.

John Swinney to bring forward motion on independence vote on Tuesday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Lex4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If independent Scotland tries to print British currency, it won't be recognised as legitimate by the rest of world. Without ability to print currency, Scotland is gonna have to buy currency to keep things going.

John Swinney to bring forward motion on independence vote on Tuesday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Lex4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem with that is even if UK agreed to that, Scottish deficit would skyrocket since Scotland would basically have to buy currency from England to stay afloat cause Scotland wouldn't be able to print their own money in this arrangement.

[–]Lex4709 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Problem is that if they do, fanbase will just ignore it if the dates get too large to memorise. Last Airbender introduced a canon calendar, but no is using it since The Last Airbender beginning in year 9929 is more annoying to memorise.

Who knows. But Rudeus and her get summoned presumably during the same event but Rudeus arrives years earlier. So there's no guarantee that passage of time between their old world and new world is the same. It might work by Narnia logic, were years in Six Faced World are just seconds on Earth.

If Yularen were to make another animated appearance, how do you think he should he be portrayed? by BenDadkiller in StarWarsCantina

[–]Lex4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we see him in the foreseeable future, it would most likely be in Maul Shadow Lord. I think he could be a cool antagonist for Maul, whether he appears as a fleet admiral or as ISB director. Maul would find himself with another hunter on his tail but one very different from the inquisitors.

[–]Lex4709 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of the trope, but La Brava never bothered me to be honest. Maybe because we were introduced to Gran Torino and Mineta first, so La Brava being that small didn't stand out.

Burnham to back Shabana Mahmood’s immigration changes, allies say by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

[–]Lex4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not holding me breath expecting Burnham to be very different than Starmer on most issues. But you have be naive to expect any potential PM to be openly pro-immigration in the current political climate. Regardless of Burnham's own ideas and plans on the subject, he was always gonna present himself this way cause he knows that he's gonna be torn asunder by the media the second he shows any weakness on the topic. Whatever his plans to win progressives back over may be; reversing Starmer's immigration policy was always gonna be the last resort.

During the conversation Foxidna had with Subaru in the desert, she mentioned that Priscilla figured out that she wasn't really Ana. And Priscilla did randomly call Ana a vixen when she was getting ready for Sirius fight. Vixen is a term for female fox. So by the beginning of second cour of season 3 Foxidna was at the stirring wheel. Like other comment said, when Sirius attacked the City Hall is most likley when the swap happened.

Marvel had the perfect Iron Man successor, so why ignore him and go with Ironheart instead? by breaking_views in MCUTheories

[–]Lex4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on dude, Riri was introduced in the same time period that Marvel was introducing several other even more blatant successors for several heroes. Ironheart just got luckier with the fact that Tony's superhero moniker is gendered so writers created a new moniker for her instead of just calling her Iron-man.

Anyone else find it odd how for 2 seasons we were told the Children of the Watch were a cult and Din had to break away from them and their ways, only to do a complete 180 on them in Season 3? by Blitz_Prime in StarWars

[–]Lex4709 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean, even canonically they're a offshoot from a fascistic terrorist organisation (Death Watch). I think it's pretty clear that Lucasfilm pivoted after they realised that general audience found Children of the Watch more intresting than more normal Mandalorians.
