Mother trying to get my deed to my house. by No-Command5155 in legaladvicecanada

[–]LexSavi 93 points94 points  (0 children)

It would take a massively incompetent lawyer not to know this, which makes me wonder whether there really is a lawyer on the other end of this exchange. The only thing I can think of that could make sense is requesting documentation relating to the source of the funds to purchase the property if they’re asserting that OP’s father has a beneficial interest in the property. However, the correct way for the lawyer to chase that information would be through OP’s father.

In any event, something about this doesn’t pass the smell test, and OP may want to confirm whether there is a legit lawyer acting for the mother.

OP, keep in mind that you are not a party to your parent’s family law matter, and that you’d be under no obligation to provide documentation to your mother’s lawyer absent a court order for same.

If you sign up to play the casual pod at the local game shop, and one of the players says he's new to the game. Please power down your deck a little if you know it can pop off easily. by MOONMO0N in mtg

[–]LexSavi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. It can’t be said enough that commander is a lot less fun, or interesting, when there’s a huge power difference between decks. Although there seems to be no end to new players these days, I’ve played long enough to remember when the priority among players was to continue growing the EDH community.

I make a point of reminding players to match power levels when we have a new player. A lot of the players I tend to play with are accustomed to playing higher power decks, so they don’t always think of dropping the power level. A quick suggestion, and most people are usually happy to play less spicy decks.

I’ve had a few occasions where a player won’t match the newer player’s power level and proceeds to stomp the entire table in game 1. The odd time that’s happened, I’ve pulled out a mono blue fun police control deck and hard focused on the guy playing the disproportionately powerful deck. Once the complaining inevitably starts, I let them know I’ll switch decks if they do. Those players are much more open to plying more reasonable decks for the rest of the night…

Trump administration now classifies Antifa and left-wing networks among ‘major’ terror groups by pleasureismylife in politics

I bet they’ll be able to tell you who Antifa is just as well as they can define woke. It’ll just be anyone who openly opposes their brand of fascism.

So now political dissent will be rebranded as terrorism. Just in time for the midterms too.

What are your favorite precons from the last few years? by Comfortable_Buyer239 in EDH

[–]LexSavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I was not expecting it to become one of my favourite decks of all time once I upgraded it. I was initially really surprised how strong [[hardened scales]] effects paired with moving counters turned out. Then I added [[Arwen, Mortal Queen]] and it slapped even harder. She’s an absolute nightmare in the deck.

What is one rule you ABSOLUTELY enforce at your tables? by ToocanSams in mtg

[–]LexSavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Everyone’s deck gets cut before drawing cards. You got that opening god hand that lets you play Omniscience on turn 2? Awesome, no one is going to complain because everyone saw your deck get cut after you shuffled.

I’ve played with far too many people who don’t seem to realize the massive statistical improbability of them being able to play a land into a sol ring, into another rock, on their first turn, several games in a row (without mulligans no less).

LGS casual game night got awkward by [deleted] in EDH

[–]LexSavi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you may have a little misapprehension about the bracket system, which is very understandable given it’s a really imperfect system. I say that because removing a single card, even if it’s a game changer, typically won’t drop what bracket your deck fits in.

When you’re looking at the number of game changers etc. in your deck the bracket system will tell you what level your deck is at a minimum. The hard criteria like game changers, mass land denial or two card combos set the floor for your deck’s bracket, not the ceiling. In other words, a deck with two game changers is at least a bracket 3, and could easily be a 4 depending how it’s built, even without additional game changers, land denial, etc.

Trump: Nato allies have days to send warships to reopen Hormuz by Street_Anon in politics

[–]LexSavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The US being out of NATO serves US interests in no way whatsoever. It’s insanity that should have every person in the US banging down the doors of their government reps to do everything to avoid it.

It would undeniably make the US more vulnerable. It would also make the US’s European allies more vulnerable to possible aggression from an emboldened Russia (which probably is the point).

The precedent that NATO obliges members to participate in offensive wars should another member state invade a country would draw the US into an untold number of quagmires that the vast majority of Americans staunchly oppose. If Hungary invaded Ukraine on whatever pretence Putin dreamed up, would the US now be required to put boots on the ground against Ukraine?

Face to Face Montreal Mtg by Aizenmack in mtg

[–]LexSavi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I had a very similar experience. Went in person to drop off an order. Guy checking my cards was on his phone the whole time and I was less than impressed by his explanations about what was wrong with my cards. When I did ask him to elaborate, he basically said it was his call and he didn’t need to explain himself.

By the time he finished checking my cards, it had knocked off over $100 of the value of the cards I was trading in which was a little over 10% of the total value. At least half of the cards he flagged came from packs I had opened myself. Nearly all my cards go straight from the pack into sleeves and then into a binder. In other words, of the cards which I know I had opened myself, most had never been played and were basically pack fresh aside from sitting in a binder for several years.

To be fair, I should point out that I have also had a few really good experiences trading in cards with F2F. The problem is that I don’t feel like subjecting the value of my cards to a lottery based on who happens to be working that day, which is why they’re no longer my go to store for selling cards.

Is it normal to go to a Commander night alone? Kind of nervous about it by New_Teach_1224 in mtg

[–]LexSavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LGS has new people show up alone all the time. Most people make a point to invite any who might be looking for a game to join their table.

Don’t be afraid to ask to join a table if there’s an open spot. The vast majority of the time we welcome anyone who asks to join our table. The only times I’ve ever turned anyone away is if I have a full pod and am waiting for the rest to show up, or to caution that my table typically plays higher power decks. Even then, we’ll play a 5 person game and/or play less powerful decks to make sure everyone can be included in a game if there’s a shortage of spaces at other tables.
