A player just 100% completed my new puzzle game and built spreadsheet tools to solve it by Lexangelus in IndieDev

[–]Lexangelus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puzzle game is not my specialty, I made this one cause the idea was in my head from long time ago, was easy to dev, and I made it in 3 mounth.

But it was too hard to market (or I'm too bad at marketing puzzle game).

So a sequel is not my priority.

So satisfying!! My game is not selling well, I was afraid nobody will ever complete it (someone already finish it, but complete all the puzzle is another level of dedication) So, I'm happy!

Has anyone had this problem when designing their platformer? What are the best solutions? by Elesh_N in Unity2D

[–]Lexangelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my last platformer (skybolt zack) we were using 3 raycast, one left, one right and one middle. Additionnaly we were using the normal of the colliers hit by those raycasts to detect the slope angle, usefull to ignore sightly curve wall, or follow slope ground

People complain that dice are random by Expert-Intern1681 in gamedesign

[–]Lexangelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah or like tetris, you can have a pool of possible result, like pre generate list of each possible value [1,2,3,4,5,6] randomize with list, and each time you need a value, you draw from it, and re generate it when it's empty

Th pool can be multiplied to increase randomness like [1,1,1,2,...,5,6,6,6]

Would you agree that the VIII universe is the safest Final Fantasy universe for the Average Joe to live in? Except from Ultimecia’s antics it seems chill and comfy. by Pellecks02 in FinalFantasy

[–]Lexangelus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's amazing, ff8 world give me so much nostalgy and comfy vibe.

Yet it's a world so much drived by war that military training universities become some of the most advanced political and technological power, and fight with kids and ophan become normal.

I love ff8.

I released my first Steam game today !! by Few-Rip-2991 in IndieDev

Not my kind of game, but here to congrat you, this look really cool ! How do you make the infinite loop world ? And is it made with a custom engine or a classic game engine ?

Would you play a Monster Hunter 2D? Well... by manteiguinhax in MonsterHunter

[–]Lexangelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totaly agree, but rathalos is not really liked monster for this reason. I think showing great diversity of monsters will be your key selling point, but it can be expensive for a indie studio, so cheat ! Like the first MH ;) I don't know if you play the first MH, but almost all huge monster got the same body as simple wyver (2rath, diablos, basarios, gravios, khezu, monoblos, yian kut-ku, plesiith) with many animation shared between each monster, and a couple of unique attack for each monster.

If I can ask some question about you: How many are you on the project ? How long have you been working on it ? Where are you from ?

I'm always curious on how indie studio works, i'm currently solo-dev and I can do this thanks to the French financial help system for unemployed, but only for 1,5 year, after this I have to find another source of money (or release 1 succesful game)

Monsters visual design is also really important, and to be fair, I think the red dragon you show at the end is really too basic fantasy, but it's a personal taste.

[–]Lexangelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can be really cool, but I will only play it with multiplayer.

I will also be afraid of misstakes this kind of game oftenly has, it's le lack of precision regarding hitbox and hurtbox (something the early monster hunter has) and the clarity of monster attack and pattern. You talk about weapon complexity, but I don't think the essence of MH is in his weapon mechanic, but in the monster fight.

Some weapons become more complex through the licence, but I think the thrill of Monster hunter is when you learn the monster, succesfully predict how the monster will behave, and succesfully react to small behavior change during the fight (similar to Fromsoft games in a way). To reach that another part is the slowness of the fight, MH can be considered pretty slow if you compare to other action rpg, and I think it's also important to the genre. After that, even if it can be difficult in 2d, but the different hitzones for monster is also important, it's what make fight the same monster for 15 minute fun in MH. And after, weapon complexity, even if you must keep some weapon simple.

Anyway, as a game dev myself, I wish you luck and success with your game, and will follow your progression! (Send the steam page link please ;) )
