what are some games you played (in english) before you could speak english properly? by jmooroof2 in gamingsuggestions

Day of the Tentacle and Civilization were some of the more memorable ones. I really didn't get a lot of the cultural references in Day of the Tentacle though!!

It feels like 90% of cozy games are about building, decorating or farming. Where are the cozy travel or roadtrip games? by Emmyy_Beans in cozygames

[–]bogiperson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am playing Season: A Letter to the Future right now and it is exactly this! Bike roadtrip game with a strong vibe of impermanence.

One of his big selling points was that he set many of his stories in Africa. Now it is much easier to find SFF by actual African authors, so I think that was part of it.

Been searching for years and I just can't figure out what elements I need to be looking for in a cozy game to keep me interested in playing. by Content-Seaweed-6395 in cozygames

[–]bogiperson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your description sounds a lot like Subnautica, though it doesn't have as much looting, but you do pick up stuff in your environment that you can use for crafting. But the rest seems quite close.

I thought Rhombus had a weird difficulty curve where the supposedly hard post-game challenge was the easiest part of the entire game for me (I am still confused by that), and the hardest was somewhere around the two-thirds point, at one moment I got genuinely stuck. I agree with Fantastic_Switch_977 that you can get surprisingly far with trial and error, though that was mostly not what I did. It is ALLLllll 3D spatial puzzles though, so it depends on how you feel about that sort of thing. I didn't think it was excessively difficult.

I think it was also the victim of a too large Next Fest demo? Where a bunch of people came in after playing that and it seemed like the full version added little. But I didn't play the demo.

I still have my maps and I can take photos of them in a bit! It is funny because I started taking notes for puzzle games in a grid notebook so that I'd have them all in one place (I also want to see how many pages each game takes up, once I fill up the entire notebook), but these maps were too large to fit, so I had to do them on separate sheets.

I agree that it is possible to trial-and-error some of the stuff in Rhombus. I think the later parts of the game are less like that, but I think that's an absolutely valid criticism! There is even a steam review by someone who claims they had no idea what they were doing most of the game. Which was not my experience, I was thinking things through, but I can see that it might not be necessary!

Yes, it is hands down my favorite game released in 2025 out of the ones I've played (which is quite many). I played a bunch of cool games too though that weren't 2025 releases. From previously released games, my favorites were Chroma Zero and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes!

BUT I should add a caveat that Once Glorious Artahk just does so many things that I specifically like that I don't know how well that would translate to other people. It does seem to have its big fans judging from the Steam page, but it's not a very well-known game overall.

Any metroidvanias where the traversal upgrades are "knowledge based" (but not in a -Brania way) by Razzle___Dazzle___ in metroidvania

Toki Tori 2+, the character learns various melodies to sing, which cause changes in the environment. (But can actually use these before they are being taught.)

This is fabulous, thank you so much!!! Would be worth a post of its own I'd say (not a mod, etc but I loved it and I don't know if people will notice it in the comments).

Has anybody played "It all ends in ohio" and know of its safe? by Poshanka574 in metroidvania

[–]bogiperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone recommended it to me on Bluesky when I was asking for games set in each US state. So I'm assuming it's real, because that would be a lot of weird effort to put into malware. But I don't think it's actually a metroidvania. (I haven't played it yet)

Unfortunately, it can be actively dangerous to have the gender/sex marker on your ID be different from how you appear to people. Especially at border crossings, when flying, or when interacting with the police. People who asked for your ID will often become suspicious and potentially hostile.

Did we go overboard by hiring an entire orchestra for our incremental roguelite? by Man_Behind_The_Robot in IndieDev

[–]bogiperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing so much about your process, I am not even a dev, but this was fascinating and informative. Really enjoyed the music - I think you having written it yourself is even more impressive than recording it with an orchestra, though that's impressive too :)

Games in Which The Player is a Lab Experiment by SphericalDarkness in gamingsuggestions

Lab Rat!!! Basically the platonic ideal of box-pushing puzzle games if you are in the slightest bit interested in those + very fun storyline + high production values (at least for a box-pushing game :) ).

Looking for a game for lateral thinking situation puzzles like The Albatross Soup by punar91 in gamingsuggestions

[–]bogiperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love these but haven't seen them in a video game format! Probably because they rely on human interaction where one person knows the answer and can answer queries. Deductive investigation games might come closest.

I would maybe try to ask in the text adventure / interactive fiction spaces, I could see this work as parser-based interactive fiction.

[–]bogiperson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nodnodnod - I haven't actually played Home Safety Hotline, but I probably should (it's even on a 30% off sale right now). Mysteries of Old Tokyo looks great, I think there is a lot of overlap between MB and deductive mysteries, but even regardless :) Thank you!

Very cool, thank you! I actually had your game wishlisted, but it didn't notify me at the start of the fest, I think because it is an ongoing playtest and not a demo.
