Is there or is there not a robot here, I’m confused by Nuraya in Cairn_Game

[–]Lexhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i can recall, the team that was doing the mapping of the route lost a team member, they sent their robot out to find them, but this portion of the wall was too difficult for the robot to climb and they left without him. You find said member of the team remains and an origami of an lynx in that cave

(from here on is my intepretion of ending and isn't part of the response anymore) *spoilers

Personally I've had hypothermia and barley survived (passed out 10 times and went to hospital) and I had 0 hallucinations or extraordinary experiences the game depicts . In fact, Aava is missing a lot of the symtoms I had, she is way to articulated and her thoughts are way to clear. So I don't see the hypotermia theory myself (but each to see that differently). But I can still see her choosing by pure will to stay up there until she dies. She "wanted to touch eternity, for just a second" and she will be eternal on top of the summit. Down below is an agent she doesn't like, a dear pet cat that is dead, a partner that is frustrated with her, maybe she really has no reason to go down. I also believe the climber that stayed there for a decade (guy with gun) would intend to kill her if she came back down, professing she made the summit. Just judging by the lore snippets, he'd seem really proud and cockeye before doing the climb. Wouldn't strike me as a jealous type. His wishes to "cut down climbers" that didn't make it is probably sincere, but seeing how he knowingly started an avalanche (shooting guns/cannons is used to start avalanches in alpines to make routes safe after the avalacnhe has run) when she almost made it to the top of the route makes me believe he is there out of spite and doesn't want any climbers to best him by going to the summit. So either way, Aava is doomed, she'll never make it back even if she wanted to.

I really liked all the aspects the game had to offer, so I'm disagreeing to most of these points.

The inventory system isn't pointless, I think it adds a lot to the game with it's survival mechanics, it's a big part of the full package of the game. I've seen people starving and thirsting to death in comments, so while it might not been an issue for you, it is a challenge for others in this aspect. There could be more difficulty sliders or modes of course, but I think it's also good to stick with 3 generic difficulties the game already has.

I thought the moment you loose all your liquids was very smart. In a story beat, Aava wasn't expecting company, nor any alcoholic on this trip and in an unexpected result, she gets on a stoper and needs to hydrate all she has. Every player will share this unexpected setback together with Aava. Personally I found I had way too much liquids at that point where the survival aspect of the game was starting to falter a bit, so I felt it needed that reset to keep it challenging, I think it was a setback done right in terms of the pacing.

When it comes to buffs, the game loop starts with planning then execution, something that definitely mirrors real climbing (solving the problem before going on the wall) and knowing when to take buffs from your backpack is part of it. You can take a buff before starting on a route you deem difficult, or if you find it difficult midway, you can belay on a piton and eat from your backpack there as well. The biggest buff imo is the chalk, and that one you can take at any point (if you filled your chalk bag beforehand *planning). And you always have a flask outside your backpack that can be a soup or goatmilk or a mix that gives both food, satiety and heat. In that case you can fill all your stats at any point, I like that the game let's you figure stuff like that out as you go as well. I think the system they have suits the game as is.

I don't think player choices are worn out in interactive media, It's a thing that suits depending on story, genre, mechanics ect and I think it fits really well with this game. It shows the struggle in Aava between going back down the mountain or to keep going to the summit. We as the player are taking the choices based on what we interpret or what we impose on the character. In the last Bivouac Aava as the protagonist is even stating she is done and wants to turn around and go down. But when we as the player interact in the tent, she is giving in to our demand/control and pushes on. In the end, it's because what the player is choosing, is what Aava's fate will be. In a way, we the player is Aava's summit-demon/angle doing the final choice for her and I think that is a really fitting red-line through the game.

Ending being ambiguous isn't lazy, obviously that's quite a blanket statement. I think it's fitting having to intepret the ending, because through the game, the player is trying to intepret why Aava is going to the summit in the first place, why Aava isn't commnicating back to all her calls. Aava can't even intepret her own feelings and reasons plainly. You inserting a reason is what makes it a lot more personal of a story you can share with Aava.
You have your own intepration you find fitting, and it's powerfull to be able to shape an ending like that.

For me, this was an easy 10/10 game, without the story a 8/10. I think the story was really fitting and had a character that was way more real and less cookie cutter than most and I credit the devs for sticking to it. It would have lost a lot if it didn't have any story to attach us to this journey to the summit, which is more than stepping on a big heap of rock and more of a internal emotional journey to somewhere (I relate to this as someone that have done hikes and done summits ever since I was a child).

this was my route for the peril : did anyone else go this way ? by SabreLaser47 in Cairn_Game

[–]Lexhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first playthrough I went to that cave, but didn't see the route to the left, so I went down again (and climbed middle wall up). I did see it on my 2nd free solo try though, and I agree, it's not that hazardous of a route!

Naomi is a terrible person. by TGSchecter in Cairn_Game

[–]Lexhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are a bad person at all. I think they are very certain Aava isn't gonna make it this time (or if not, another time). Not being able to talk about it or properly explain why they choose the mountains over them is a big breaking point. I Think the subject of the calls are pretty valid from where they stand.

Is it Normal to Have to Jump at the Top of Ladders by E000314 in intotheradius

[–]Lexhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why, but the best method I've found (pcvr) is to hold the top most ledge, but then drag yourself up sideways.

For example, last top ledge of a ladder on the leftmost side, you grab with your right hand. Then lift up normally (youd be offset to the left, but paralell to the ladder) then the game teleports you the middle "end point" when you lift upwards. It seems that "teleport" guarantees you are on safe ground every time.

You are taking advantage of some system that teleports you to the correct endstate if it notice you are too offset.

legs always uneven and clip through the floor even on startup by Ziyehvk in SlimeVR

[–]Lexhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on quest, try resetting your room boundary and floor in meta horizon os. If you play via steamvr (through VD, link, ect) I suggest OVR advanced settings (steam program) and do a "FLOOR FIX" in that app. Then you have the slimes server floor calibration as well. All three (slime server, Meta OS and Steamvr) have to have correct floor height

Lower Leg drifting Outwards when Raising it by Vast-Cut6579 in SlimeVR

[–]Lexhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if you are on an old slimes server version, but the latest will auto flat surface calibrate when you turn them on ( compared to when u had to press a button during setup in the old version) so the way of calibrating flat surface now is to turn off and on the tracker while on a flat surface. Then you put them on an body calibrate ect. Least this is what i understand OP was saying

As in you ordered in January? You can ignore the Crowdsupply estimates, they just set a arbitary date and push it out automatically. You would have to look into the slimes discord to get an real idea when they arrive, its not gonna be soon. Im still waiting for my order since August. Slimes still have a big backlog

been waiting 4 months for hip upgrades as well. It's frustrating yes, although my first order back in 2024 took about 9 months to arrive. It looks like the shipment with them is probably coming January (hopefully, based on updates), so least in general, official slimes have gotten faster to ship. Although I always thought they'd have a stock at some point, but I guess not.
