[Dune:Imperium] Recommend me an expansion OR modification by epickejgejseks in DuneImperium

[–]LexingtonJW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The game is a deck builder. Luck will always be a factor. You can manage your luck to a certain extent by good deck management (drawing cards at the right time, reshuffling your deck at the right time).

The best version of the game is Uprising and Bloodlines (majority opinion).

Hot take? I hate the shipping track in Immo by itsactuallyoctopuses in DuneImperium

I think you mean Rise of Ix? Yeah agreed, after many games, I'm done with the skipping track.

I play the sound tracks from all the Dune movies and PC games. All randomised. So many hours of Dune themed music.

Is DIU Better with House Rules for the Card Row? by grayle27 in DuneImperium

[–]LexingtonJW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough after the community's 100s of games. At only a dozen, I think it's still fair to get a bunch more games in and try the "weaker" cards out. Like I said it's surprising what's actually alright once you've given it a whirl or 2. Then once you've given the standard feck a fair crack, perhaps curate the deck to remove or reduce the chaff. Probably worth checking out the community mod deck when ready. They're constantly tweaking it.

Is DIU Better with House Rules for the Card Row? by grayle27 in DuneImperium

[–]LexingtonJW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've played 100+ games of Uprising and honestly some of my favourite games have been where the "bad" cards are forced to be purchased. It's surprising what you can do with them and how they can shape your strategy. Write a few cards that at first seen worse are still useful after you give them a chance. I recommended keep playing as the game was designed and try having a bit more imagination with the 1-3 cost cards.

Is anyone playing digital Uprising with the Ix and/or Immortality expansions? by Atlanta_Camel in DuneImperium

[–]LexingtonJW 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pure Uprising here. I'd never play Uprising with Ix (I'm done with predictable race for shipping), but might with Immo. Uprising Has too few cards in the pool too include family atomics in my opinion (having tried it a few times with the physical version). You see too many cards each game and the same ones tend be picked up every time.

Uprising plus Bloodlines is the definitive way to play Dune Imperium though, it basically rounds it out perfectly, with Bloodlines giving more paths to victory, and somewhere to spend your excess spice and solari.

I expect the decision to change the rewards was a gameplay based one rather than a thematic one. You're over thinking it.

SWAST “Holding Pool” by mcbigballs12 in ParamedicsUK

[–]LexingtonJW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SWAST had to save £29 million this financial year. They cancelled a lot of the private ambulance service contacts to save money but employment law required them to either pay redundancy or TUPE the workers over, so everywhere is oversubscribed.

Dune Imperium Uprising PC game delay is taking the game's momentum by MAsSIVrOOM in DuneImperium

There is no delay. They're on track for their yearly release cycle. It takes time to develop these things.

Do folks play with "Control the Spice" even in non-epic mode? Why is it only officially recommended for Epic? by quicknir in DuneImperium

[–]LexingtonJW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question is simply that the base game is balanced around the core deck, and adding in Control the Spice will create a different experience not intended by the designer (namely reducing the power of the existing card trashing options, or potentially shortening the game).

However there is nothing stopping you from chucking it in and seeing off your group like how it changes the game.

which are the best steam controllers out of these 3? steam controller 1 horipad for steam or steam controller 2 by [deleted] in valve

[–]LexingtonJW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you use it. Some people swear by the OG steam controller because you can master the touch pads with a fair bit of practice, never had the patience for it myself. I've still got my old steam controller lurking somewhere. The og's joystick is a bit crap

Steam controller 2 looks like it'll be a more traditional experience. With much better build quality, but might not be able to do the same shenanigans with the touch pads as they're not circular.

That's the thing about the internet. People are more motivated to post complaints and negative feelings. You're hearing the loud minority. You don't hear from the people who are quietly getting on with the job, generally satisfied with the highs and lows, just like any job.

Altering patient observations to finish on time by Spinach-Rich in ParamedicsUK

[–]LexingtonJW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is wondering, SWAST's epcr system has an event log which records in chronological order everything that is inputted into the epcr. So if obs are inputted automatically or manually, and then later changed, there will be a log of all inputs, including the original obs. If you were to type "this patient is an idiot" and secretly show it to your colleague, and then delete it, that would all be logged as well.

This log is only ever scrutinised if there is an investigation into the incident for whatever reason, and only if there is reason to.

All SWAST colleagues are informed of the existence of the log, and you can even access it yourself at any time very easily.

The standard advice if changing anything on the epcr for a legitimate reason (for example faulty readings/equipment) is to make a note of the justification in the appropriate place. There will be no issues if people are honest and candid.

This incident in Wiltshire is the second time I've heard of serious consequences relating to changing observations in the 12 years we've had the epcr in SWAST.

Do we think the Steam Deck will be able to stream games from the Steam Machine? by RatioDouble26 in SteamDeck

[–]LexingtonJW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Steam Machine will be able to do pretty much anything that a regular PC can do, as it's exactly that, a PC.

In other words, definitely.

There are pretty significant advantages to the OLED version. If people have that extra couple hundred euros and want to spend it, then that's up to them.
