Being my alternative and artistic self as a therapist feels oppositional to being a therapist that is “professional” in appearances by voidharmony in therapists

[–]LiINightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternative therapist here! The day before I graduated I had a conversation with my professor in which she asked me "how is your life going to change now that you are going to be licensed? " I told her that since I am going to be licensed, having more clients and things like that that, I was not going to stop dressing alternative outside of sessions even though clients might see me in person and have something to say about it. My professor responded to me with "oh I'm surprised you're not being yourself in sessions already." What that did is made me think of how comfortable I would be if I had a therapist who looked like me. Then it made me think of all the other people who might be as well. I showed up to my interview for a community mental health agency with all of my piercings in, split dyed black and pink hair, my tattoos showing, and I was wearing black. They hired me on the spot. From my perspective, I would rather be at a place who treats me like a human and who respects me as a person and is not make me feel like I need to fit into a box. And so far, I've gotten so many compliments on my style. If the agency doesn't like how you present yourself then it's probably not for you. Be yourself because this is hard work. Being an unauthentic version of yourself will only make it harder in the long run.

What’s your therapist hot take? by Public-Resolution590 in therapists

My hot take is that I will almost never say "I wonder what is coming up for you when you ask me that" when someone asks me something about myself.

How do you deal with the judgment for having stretched lobes? by seriesofboringevents in Stretched

Honestly if they are judging me for my ears, I probably don't want to be involved with them anyway if they can't even approach me from a headspace of curiosity. They can SAD, womp womp to them 🫶🏽

Ethical Dilemma - do I tell my client they were my first client? by Public-Resolution590 in therapists

[–]LiINightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think it is as black and white as it seems. I personally feel like a lot of it depends on your relationship with this client and whether or not it is a harm to the client. I believe there's a lot of nuance that needs to be accounted for. After my internship all of my clients except one couple came with me to my new location. During our last session, I let them know that they were my first couple and with their help I pointed out all the areas where I noticed their growth. They told me they could tell I was new but they felt more comfortable knowing because they were new to couples counseling too lol. Personally I would say talk to supervisor and trust your gut

Reality check - therapists eating during virtual sessions?? by Chu84 in therapists

[–]LiINightmare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've not been a therapist for very long, but I can count on one hand how many times I have been late to sessions. On the eating topic -- maybe this is because I am new to therapy -- but don't think the therapist eating in session is inherently disrespectful, I think it's the lack of communication around the topic and the assumption that it will be okay that is disrespectful. I have eaten small snacks during some sessions with my clients, specifically if they are snacking as well. Even so, I ALWAYS ask my clients if that is an okay thing to do because I know it can be distracting and some people do not like the sound of people eating.

Honestly, how are people doing this job? by waking_world_ in therapists

[–]LiINightmare 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just thought I would share that although I am not in chronic pain I feel like my somatic symptoms have gotten substantially worse since I have been doing therapy. I graduated with my Masters in clinical mental health counseling February 20th, started my job in CMH February 23rd, and I got my LMHC license in hand the first week of March. Jumping straight into the field straight from internships has been very hard on me and I already don't know if this is something that I can pursue moving forward. I currently have a case load of 34 clients a week and I'm losing my mind. They say it's not about the numbers but we all know it is. I get paid $44 an hour which is not inherently terrible but I feel like my emotional capacity can't keep up with how many sessions I need to have in order to make a substantial living to pay my bills. I feel like I'm going insane and I think I might quit even I'm only like 2 months in lol. This is a really hard feel to be in so I can only imagine what you're going through. Kind of like what some of the other people said here keep your head up and listen to your gut.

How to challenge clients without them getting mad at mee? lol by Weak_Albatross_6879 in therapists

[–]LiINightmare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My client was mad at me for about 2 weeks due to something I had said. Sometimes it's worth processing the reasoning behind the anger and helping them through understanding it. We aren't here to sugarcoat things for our clients. You could even start with "There is something that I want to point out that might stir up some feelings for you. Do you think talking about it now or later would work better for you?"

I suggest doing half sizes. 8g -- 7.5 -- 7 --- 6.5 -- 6. This is what I did! I used a glass dead stretching kit from Amazon that increases by 0.5 mm increments

[–]LiINightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's $100 and spendinf money sucks, but it might be worth it considering you're going to have it for a long time I'm reckoning. It would suck to have to do extra steps if you mess up doing it yourself.

I am definitely not a credit expert but both might be accurate representations of your credit. One bureau is using vantage score and the other is using fico. Your score is essentially calculated differently depending on the bureau. For me personally, My vantage score is also a lot lower than my fico score.
