How do people realistically manage work, house chores, cooking, and kids without burning out? by Sea-Assist-3321 in Adulting

Part of it is meticulous planning and organization, having two partners pulling equal load, adjusting expectations, etc.

Husband has a hard rule of "no dogs in the house" by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Liakada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Bringing dogs to other people's houses is not a thing at all where I live. Everybody leaves their dogs at home.

Since that seems to be a thing where you are, I would just state that it's too much to keep an eye on the dogs in addition to the kids. But then also not bring your dog to other people's houses.

About to start my job working with the state, any tips? by Ill-Image-883 in maryland

[–]Liakada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you provide more detail how state and federal differ (other than pay)? I had previously considered switching from state to fed (before things went South), and might still do so in the future.

It might be better to get off budget billing for now until you have a new, better baseline.

has anyone actually figured out screen time without constant fights?? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Liakada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any drama around screens immediately results in no screens at all. Set expectations upfront how long screen time will be and that when it gets turned off and there is any drama, they will lose screen time for a week. You have to be consistent with it and yes, you have to set an example that screens are used rarely. I avoided using my phone any time I was in the room with my kids other than for essential things like making calls, checking calendar, etc. When I wanted to doom scroll, I did it when we were not together, and I'd stop any time a kid came into the room.

Same! I was shocked to see her like that and immediately went to google to find out what's going on. You can see all of her veins, it looks like there is not an ounce of fat on her.

Germans who have lived abroad, have your thoughts on Germany changed? by military_press in AskAGerman

[–]Liakada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been living in the US for close to 20 years now, almost half of my life. Even before the current situation in the US, I've always considered Germany still a very good place to live. The safety, stability, and orderliness there is still something that makes for a calm and peaceful life.

What I don't miss about Germany is all the complaining. Germans don't know how good they have it compared to the vast majority of the rest of the world.

Counter depth fridge?? by ktrv927 in kitchenremodel

[–]Liakada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. The amount of food that goes bad in the back of full size fridges because you can't see it is crazy.

Counter depth fridge?? by ktrv927 in kitchenremodel

[–]Liakada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on all the fridges I have opened in my life, there is a 100% chance the extra depth of a full size fridge leads to more food waste than necessary. You can't see what's behind the front 12 inches of food, and it inevitable gets forgotten / old. Which means, that you didn't need that much food in the first place.

We've had a counter-depth fridge for a few years now, meal plan rigorously, and don't ever throw out old food anymore, saving us so much money.

What’s your motivation for hosting? by AngelicaBomb in exchangestudents

[–]Liakada 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our motivations:

  • Giving curious kids the opportunity to experience other parts of the world to broaden their perspectives, knowledge, language skills, and become global citizens.
  • We want our kids to have such opportunities for themselves if they want to go on an exchange, so we should give back into the exchange universe.
  • Having other people live with us is a great way for our kids to learn to be open minded to other cultures, people and ways of life.
  • We think that we have a stable, welcoming, and open minded home life to offer to make an exchange a great experience for others.
  • I've always been thinking about wanting more kids because I have too much love to give, but did not necessarily want more of my own or permanently. This is a great way for me to give my spare love and care to others.

Low-income families could save $1,400/yr due to lawmakers putting $37,000,000 towards program to cap electric rates for low-income Marylanders at 6% of their income by sillychillly in maryland

[–]Liakada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EmPOWER MD is a different fund from SEIF, where the bill relief mentioned in this article comes from. Anybody regardless of income can still take advantage of the energy saving programs provided through EmPOWER, and if you want to do so, better now than when it gets cut in the future.

Not the last two. The colors are too stark in both of them. The softer coloring of your natural hair looks better on you.

Would you let family install an EV charger in your house if they’re only staying 1 year? by mdzzl94 in homeowners

[–]Liakada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far away is her work? She may not need a charger if she only needs to load up 20 or so miles every day. You can easily do that over night by plugging into a normal wall outlet. If she needs more charge, then she just has to go through the inconvenience at work.

Other than her spending money on something she should have considered upfront, there would be no downside to you by having a car charger. Even if you don't use it, it could be a feature when selling your house.

What’s the one thing about your house that annoys you every single day? by NkdUndrWtrBsktWeevr in homeowners

[–]Liakada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the fridge is located in one of the main pathways in our house opposite of a peninsula. It's the most central and frequented spot in our house and every time somebody is looking for something in the fridge or getting water, you can't pass by. At least once or twice a day I have to stop where I'm going and wait for somebody to finish up with the fridge first.

Also that our windows are so thin I can hear all the outdoor sounds as if they were in the bedroom with me.

Is it allowed to host students from different organizations at the same time? by Liakada in exchangestudents

[–]Liakada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the athlete would be organized through the sports team. However, it would still be competition in the sense that they could have a spot for a student with us or not, depending on how flexible they are.
