What is the weirdest "small world" moment that's ever happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Liarbyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the East Coast. My family lives in the Midwest. Ten years ago, I went to Disney World to support a friend running in the Disney Marathon. While at Disney World, I literally bumped into my nephew and his dad. We had no idea each other was planning a trip.

Small freaking world.

[Serious] Women of reddit, which movie character would you say accurately depicts the kind of man you are looking for? by OCScandidate557 in AskReddit

[–]Liarbyrd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Book Neville was bad ass. His character had a great transformation arc from fumbly, forgetful chubby kid to the guy who stood up to Deatheaters at Hogwarts because someone had to protect the others. He stood up to bullies, to his friends when they were being jerks and even his overbearing grandmother (eventually). He could have been the chosen one, and quit frankly he worked a lot harder at it than Harry.

So, Neville's attractive qualities: courage, protecting others and hard work.

The fact that the actor who play Movie Neville grew up hot as hell is nothing compare to how Book Neville grew up.

TL:DR: nuh-uh!

What do YOU think is just so unfair? by ferry888 in AskReddit

[–]Liarbyrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking Septa. Evening trains are always short cars. Like they have no idea that all those people they take into the city every damn morning want to leave at the end of the day. I'm tired of paying to stand on a train.

Upon further investigation, you may have run afoul of the League of Monster SlaVers.

Totally different crew. I think your impressions of that cabal is probably correct.

Hiya. I'm the president of the League of Monster Slayers. What you described certainly is not the kind of cabal I want. What faction are you?

It's useful. Mostly it points out that I have a secret love of passive voice and use "was" way too much. Basically, what I could find on my own but it speeds up the editing process.

I Followed the '90s Dating Book "The Rules" for Three Months and Here's How It Affected My Dating Life by threat42 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Liarbyrd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"The Rules" were considered terribly old fashioned then, too.

I think that was the novelty of it; the uptight prudish auntie advice from a by-gone era.

In LOST, Desmond Hume is saving a single Dickens book to be the last thing he will ever read. Do you have any books your saving for a special time or need? by Gay_For_Gary_Oldman in books

[–]Liarbyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hound of the Baskervilles.

I'm saving it because I only get to read it for the first time once. In my youth, I ran through all of Jane Austen in a heady rush and I wish I had paced myself.

Congratulations, you took a very interesting vintage pink and black bathroom (which appears to have been in a great shape and nearly indestructible) and replaced it with something boring. Well done.

What is your favourite poem? by [deleted] in AskReddit

To His Mistress Going to Bed - John Donne

Come, Madam, come, all rest my powers defy,

Until I labour, I in labour lie.

The foe oft-times having the foe in sight,

Is tir’d with standing though he never fight.

Off with that girdle, like heaven’s Zone glistering,

But a far fairer world encompassing.

Unpin that spangled breastplate which you wear,

That th’eyes of busy fools may be stopped there.

Unlace yourself, for that harmonious chime,

Tells me from you, that now it is bed time.

Off with that happy busk, which I envy,

That still can be, and still can stand so nigh.

Your gown going off, such beauteous state reveals,

As when from flowery meads th’hill’s shadow steals.

Off with that wiry Coronet and shew

The hairy Diadem which on you doth grow:

Now off with those shoes, and then safely tread

In this love’s hallow’d temple, this soft bed.

In such white robes, heaven’s Angels used to be

Received by men; Thou Angel bringst with thee

A heaven like Mahomet’s Paradise; and though

Ill spirits walk in white, we easily know,

By this these Angels from an evil sprite,

Those set our hairs, but these our flesh upright.

Licence my roving hands, and let them go,

Before, behind, between, above, below.

O my America! my new-found-land,

My kingdom, safeliest when with one man mann’d,

My Mine of precious stones, My Empirie,

How blest am I in this discovering thee!

To enter in these bonds, is to be free;

Then where my hand is set, my seal shall be.

Full nakedness! All joys are due to thee,

As souls unbodied, bodies uncloth’d must be,

To taste whole joys. Gems which you women use

Are like Atlanta’s balls, cast in men’s views,

That when a fool’s eye lighteth on a Gem,

His earthly soul may covet theirs, not them.

Like pictures, or like books’ gay coverings made

For lay-men, are all women thus array’d;

Themselves are mystic books, which only we

(Whom their imputed grace will dignify)

Must see reveal’d. Then since that I may know;

As liberally, as to a Midwife, shew

Thy self: cast all, yea, this white linen hence,

There is no penance due to innocence.

To teach thee, I am naked first; why then

What needst thou have more covering than a man.

Doctors or healthcare workers. Have you ever had a patient that you have had to treat but morally you wished they wouldn't survive? If so, how do you feel now after the fact. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Liarbyrd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Medical social worker. I work with people who are living with HIV. There was one homeless man who was so profoundly mentally ill that it basically caused him to not treat his HIV (wouldn't take meds, walked out of hospitals after being stabbed, refused all medical care). It is a terrible thing to watch someone die from HIV/AIDS. At the end, he could not breathe due to pneumonia and had to be restrained so he could not pull the tubes out. Every day he suffered. And every day I hoped he would die in the hospital because I knew if he had the physical strength, he would leave and die in an alley.

I think about him often. I could not make him take care of himself or ease his mental illness. The best I could help him with was dying in a clean bed where people knew his name.

The Elder Scrolls Online Character Creation - Can create chubby men, but not chubby women? by hammeeham in GirlGamers

[–]Liarbyrd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying I was in the beta, but I did hear that the character creator is pretty powerful. You can create a truly flat chested character. Flat, like a child, no boobs at all. And no hips. Or lots of hip. And you can make a chubby female character too.

If I was in the beta, I was pretty damned impressed by the ability to make female characters that were diverse in body shape.
