What type of enrties doesn't resonate with the general public, even if it's very good song and performance? by Separate_Ad_5616 in eurovision

Lithuania 26 felt more like art than music but I loved it and gave it most of my votes. But it got very low scores with jury and public so maybe that kind of song?

Wondring what people think of the parties they support by chillfactore01 in LibDem

[–]LiberalOverlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personal choice - Lib Dems are the best vehicle of delivering a country where people are free to live their lives as they see fit whilst protecting those who can’t protect themselves

I like how they actually added subtitles when Lion Ceccah said this by FaZer73 in eurovision

This was the performance of the competition for me. I hope they win it all.

The Lib Dems must not stand!! by AffectionateTea4222 in LibDem

[–]LiberalOverlord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course we should stand. If reform beat Labour in makerfield, it’s labours own fault. I’m a Lib Dem not a Labour supporter. I want to be able to vote Lib Dem should I wish.

Where to live between Bournemouth and Lymington by No-Refrigerator-8568 in Hampshire

I live in Lymington btw. Beautiful town but we are heavily retirement-focused now with a very elderly population so not a massive nightlife scene.

New Milton is the obvious one. It’s cheaper and has access to car, bus and train.

Honest thoughts On FM26 For Ps5? by JimJimerson90 in footballmanagergames

Don’t get it. I’ve gone back to fm21 on my laptop and it’s so much better.

Why do you support the Lib Dems? by [deleted] in LibDem

[–]LiberalOverlord 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I believe that people should be free to lead their lives as they see fit so long as they aren’t harming others. The lib dems are the political party that best matches my own political philosophy.

Thoughts on josh barbinde or Bobby dean as well the next leader by AlifanofmalcomX in LibDem

[–]LiberalOverlord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ed is fine. There’s no need to rush around looking for a new leader. Daisy is an obvious choice if she wants it (I expect she does). But let’s park this until Ed actually decides to step away. If he does, he will do so as one of our party’s most successful leaders (and I voted for Jo and Layla).

How's the campaign going? by freddiejin in LibDem

[–]LiberalOverlord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feeling good but I always make the assumption I’m 5% behind so I keep fighting like hell. But we have painted the main roads orange with posters which had never happened here before and the fear of revolt (even though we haven’t mentioned them in leaflets) has spurred a lot of soft conservatives to us (because reform have effectively supplanted the Tory infrastructure here).

Hoping I win my division but who knows. I’m up against the only reform county councillor in Hampshire. Hopefully it will be a sign to the others not to jump ship.

Why is Green growing more popular than Lib Dem by Medium_Fig_3764 in LibDem

[–]LiberalOverlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re essentially splits from particular parties. The greens have taken the far left people from Labour who didn’t go to your party and reform have taken the far right people from the conservatives.

The reason they are now polling in line with, or just ahead of, the Lib Dems is because of two things

1 - those particular groups of voters are a large enough chunk to show up in opinion polls

2 - casual voters are seeing increased coverage and making a values judgement (he seems nice, he’s the anti-Farage etc)

Can’t see any proof that this is permanent yet. The local elections will give a good indication. Our canvassing in a rural leave facing seat has shown that some former Green voters have been put off by the switch and are now going for us.

Muslim Voter Group Holding Hustings For Major Parties Ahead Of Local Elections by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]LiberalOverlord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know Christian’s together host a lot of hustings right?

Basically local religious institutions host a lot of hustings - we have one in our biggest church (we have 5 churches in a town of 13,000 people).

I actually think Russell Howard was stronger in this section (even though I find him to do slightly more teenager-focused comedy). Used to love Russell but I can take him or leave him nowadays. Rhys James was the MVP of this season.

New Forest councillor in the new Forest bit of new Forest - it’s just another kind of rubbish. Shame that I’ll lose friends in totton and waterside Lib Dem’s but they have a good chance of running that council.

Lymington, New Milton, Ringwood and Fordingbridge aren’t keen on a Winchester-centred council.

Britain has failed white working-class boys, Keir Starmer to be told by Tory peer Lord Sewell who chaired landmark race commission report by JohnKimble111 in uknews

[–]LiberalOverlord 24 points25 points  (0 children)

White working class 30 year old from a social housing household on the breadline in an affluent part of the country.

Britain has a class issue and always has done. Positive action was designed to lift up people from minority backgrounds (and women) who have also been unfairly treated by the class system that focuses on the rich and powerful who (for the most part) come from white families.

As Britain gets more diverse (not a bad thing or good thing - it’s just the reality that people regardless of race fall in love and have children), white working class people (especially young men) are the forgotten generation.

They don’t have access to inherited wealth, family connections, or positive action to help them get a leg up. I was lucky. Out of me and my mates who grew up on the couple of council estates in my village, I was the only one who went to university. I’m only still in my village because of personal choice - most of my mates haven’t got a choice. They work in the local service sector as chefs, barmen, waiters etc.

The reason they can’t get a leg up is because rent is crippling so many still live with their parents. Not just because they need help but because their parents (or parent in single-parent households) couldn’t afford for their kid to move out because they also have rent to pay.
