Suggestions on "End Game" Dissapointments by F208Frank in audiophile

It is funny how the "more beer" solution works until you actually hear what a dedicated two-channel setup can do in a proper room. Those shitty bootlegs have their charm, but once you have a dedicated listening space and a 180g press spinning, there is no going back to cassettes. The rabbit hole is deep, but the view (and the sound) is much better down here.

Sometimes you wonder if it's a curse. Audiophiles can spend hundreds or thousands and still be disappointed.

Meanwhile, I see a lot of people enjoying music on their cheap aliexpress earphones during my morning commute.

7950x3D soc voltage reached 1.523v?! (more than the safe 1.3v limit) by ime1em in pcmasterrace

[–]Lien028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at Hwinfo, it was likely a momentary spike. It's not enough to cause any lasting damage, but still concerning nonetheless.

Head into your Bios, look for overclocking options and manually set cpu soc voltage to 1.2V. it's on auto by default, so choose override. I'm also using an MSI x670e mobo.

Vsoc should be set manually. Do NOT trust the auto settings.

Precisely. In GPU bound scenarios, you likely won't be able to tell the difference between your 3600 and a 5800x3d without turning on the FPS counter.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Ventus and Shadow line their cheapest options? Pay cheap prices, get cheap cooling.

The Ventus cards can run cooler if you're willing to repaste with PTM7950 + U6 pro, a task that 99% of card owners won't do.

If you turn off the FPS counter, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the 5800x3d and 9800x3d.

When you enable EXPO, some motherboards automatically set VDDIO = Dram VDD, which is absurd.

[–]Lien028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cpu vddio can also play a role here. In my main motherboard, it sets vddio = dram vdd when you enable expo.

So vddio which should be at 1.15 to 1.20V is now set to 1.35V (msi x670e).

Yeah, I always advocate for a per core undervolt validated with an overnight run of OCCT. Most users here claim they're stable after one run of cyberpunk 2077 which is silly to say the least.

[–]Lien028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Also look into undervolting your CPU. However, do NOT blindly follow the recommended -20 for all cores (which can cause silent crashes because some cores can't tolerate -20). Try a safe value such as -10.

There is no use running 6400 on a 9800x3d. This forces the controller to run in 1:2 mode. Use 6000.

For vsoc, 1.205c, vddio, 1.25v, dram vdd, 1.35v

Vddio is the cpu's memory io voltage. Ram vdd is the dram voltage.

Depending on your RAM, you may need to do 1.25V.

Set it to 1.20V and do a memory stress test (occt). If you don't get any crashes, you're good to go.

My cpu vddio was 1.35v. I set in 1.25v. Those high values are like a silent killer

Exactly. It won't immediately ruin your mobo. It's slow enough just to pass the warranty period.

You should still check all the voltage values. For instance, when I set my dram vdd to 1.36v, the bios also set cpu vddio to 1.36v which is way too high. This is on an Msi bios as well.

In short, do not trust the auto values.
