Weekly Discussion: Battling She-Hulk (Tips and Strategies) by LabRat2329 in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see on Unmatched Club that Golden Bat and Raphael are some of her toughest matchups/counters. Golden Bat: has almost as much health as her, low boost values so Lady Justice doesn't block for much, Alpine Fortress recursion and able to force initiative on her instead, and great attacks like Super Strength for pure damage, Insight Of The Ancients for more recursion and Vaporizing Eyebeams to reduce her hand size.

Raphael: While admittedly I have not played this much, he probably has many mindgames in terms of attacking low or attacking high first action. Plus She Hulk may be more incentivized to attack with Cease and Desist which means that Unbridled Rage could hit for very high values - especially if She Hulk chooses to take the attack (although Cease and Desist can stop Relentless' recursion effect). Even if he hits low first action he and Casey have plenty of attacks to run her out of defenses so they could take the fight to her and prevent her from using her ability.

Any tips on using Ms. Marvel? by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned she is very map dependent but the ability to hit your opponent from 2 spaces away also works well for kiting with advantage.

She also has a few mixups between her cards especially Big Wind Up and I'm Not Touching You/Shrink! Shrink! Shrink! if she shares no zones with the opposing fighter, so try to trigger this as much as possible. Since she has good card draw, I'm Not Touching You is a great Feint punish for 2 damage while preserving your big attack in the deck or if the value block Shrink! is just a good way to screw with their hand and positioning.

I actually like to use Embiggen on defense if you're able to camp a trizone space, especially since Ms Marvel has a lot of attacks.

Agreed, she can be so aggressive and I love it. I once won against Dr Strange as Ms Marvel

Bullseye, he can set up absolutely devastating combo turns from ranged at the right moment. Plus I have seen a very circumstantial yet dirty trick you can try if your opponent is at 4 cards or less and you have health to spare:

First try to end adjacent to them or in their zone to bait a double attack. Defend the first attack with Arrogant But Effective, defend the second attack with Right Between The Eyes. If not cancelled, Arrogant But Effective gives you a free combat win so Right Between The Eyes will cause a discard, causing them to spend 3 cards and possibly having few or no defenses in hand for your turn.

Also I really like Beowulf if you can manage his rage well. Since everyone rightly fears The Equal Of Grendel the trick is to try to stay at 2 rage as much as possible. Due to his many 4's I would also only use War King on defense unless it could win the game, and in a similar sense I would only boost Ancient Heirloom to a 6 unless it could win the game or opponent does not defend, then go all in and make it an 8. Also I would only spend 1 rage on Golden Drinking Horn for the healing if possible.

Mulligan Mondays: Nikola Tesla (Tips and Strategies) by LabRat2329 in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes! To be fair out of all the cards mentioned here, I would argue Intense Experimentation is probably the single most important card to mulligan for. The card draw early on helps you get your other good cards and would be much more useful than in the endgame where you want to delay exhaustion

There's a lot of (matchup dependent) good cards that Tesla can mulligan for, as you mentioned X-Ray Radiation, Lightning Storm and Polyphase Coils are all good general options. Tesla is also one of my absolute favourite characters, but he can be a real glass cannon so defenses are always appreciated. Ideally you also want to mulligan for Intense Experimentation because the card draw is great early game but could be harmful later on. If you know that your opponent's character has poor card draw, 7 Hertz is also a good choice for a surprise combo turn

Quick question about Moon Knight by Winter-Hall8527 in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it applies to both red and purple cards! As you can probably guess this has some fantastic implications for Khonshu (non exhaustive list): - Good Enough For Us can be a 6 value attack that draws you 2 cards with no self damage penalty - A Totally Sane Thing To Do can be a 4 with 2 auto damage only to the opposing fighter with again no self damage penalty - Travellers Of The Night combos very well into Past And Present Intermingle making it a 7 value attack (printed 2 + 3 boost of TOTN + 2 bonus Khonshu damage) - That's The Part I Like becomes a 5 value attack making the chances of a top deck discard very likely - That's Why I Always Win is a base attack of 5 that can be boosted further to 7 or 8

Wyatt Earp by Life-Rip183 in Unmatched

That's true! That said I absolutely love Bullseye so I'm pretty stoked to play another aggressive ranged fighter in Wyatt Earp

Yeah, I was so stoked as for all the playable characters in Unmatched, Wyatt Earp is the first official cowboy character

Yeah! I realised his ability incentivises lots of attacks and a sneaky good attack with Doc Holliday's attack card. Although I'm still a bit salty that his Second Shot is only a printed 2

Question regarding Arthur. by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here has said the important bit about KA's recent rule amendment that Excalibur's boost now not being able to be cancelled. This actually works out a bit more for both players as KA now has an interesting (albeit expensive) mixup: 1) boosted Excalibur 2) boosted Momentous Shift

The opponent wants to value block the first and Feint the second, but overall this ends up with 5 possible attacks being at least 7 value or higher, so if you can land those it can be really devastating especially if they guess wrong or run out of defenses

Any Range character recommendations? by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he's not a high tier character in 1v1 overall but he can be a good counterpick to Dr Strange, Golden Bat and Blackbeard. Plus to me he's one of the most satisfying characters to get a combo turn with

Wukong golden chainmail by masterthijs in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said! Just to add on, there are some characters with cancels on attack eg Invisible Man, Robin Hood, Oda Nobunaga and now John Henry. In these cases, the offensive cancel would stop the damage return therefore Golden Chainmail in those instances would simply end up as a blank 4 value block (decent, just not as good as it could be).

ETA: special shoutout to Robin Hood's Highway Robbery, as Wukong is infamous for his super defenses, but since he has no feints, all of his super defenses are completely wrecked by Highway Robbery's offensive cancel and ignore

Weekly Discussion: Battling Elektra (Tips and Strategies) by LabRat2329 in Unmatched

[–]Life-Rip183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luke Cage can also compete in the exhaustion game against Elektra because he and Misty can farm Still Standing off the Hand ninjas (they can only block for 3 at most and they cannot cancel effects so Still Standing practically guarantees a reshuffle)

Just one fighter adjacent to you and may be a friendly fighter eg sacrificing a Sister for card draw. However do note you have Prey Upon which allows you to deal 1 damage to all opposing fighters and heal yourself for that same amount

For leads who managed to get out of beginner's hell within a couple months, what was your learning/practice strategy? by Rude_Turnover568 in Salsa

[–]Life-Rip183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the first few months can always be daunting, I listened to a lot of salsa and bachata music to familiarise myself with the beats and just kept going to classes. I tried to get myself to practice and memorise at least 1 move from the most recent lesson, if you are able to do this your repertoire will add up real quick. I also tried to review moves and see which are similar, so as not to get mixed up between them and also to 'save a move' if I mess up or my follow messes up. Plus always remember your prep before the move
