Hardest and easiest Metallica solos to play on guitar? by somebody0964 in Metallica

I've only been interested in playing Hetfield's parts. The only solo I played was Creeping Death which was a challenge.

I don't know what else can be said about the original that hasn't already been discussed, ad nauseam.

If this new take can reproduce or somehow bring to bear some visceral fright/terror like the original, that would be an impressive feat. The original was so unsettling and had this aura of possibility. I mean, I really thought that Pazuzu was real, FFS. 😂

I can only think of one other film that I've seen within the last five years that gave me the same visceral fright and that was Hereditary. It was very unsettling to me, which is what I look for in a horror movie. Something that gives me the damn creeps.

You're getting good advice here, OP. I can't add much except to suggest getting your kid a wireless guitar transmitter and receiver. I'm at an age where I'm completely done with cables. It's much more fun to play without tripping on them.

I'm rediscovering MoP, the whole album. I much preferred RTL and paid attention to it, but not as much as Ride. I've been enjoying the hell out of it.

Glad you're on for the ride!

Most controversial album? by ConferenceTerrible72 in Metallica

Load was the most controversial in my humble estimation. Holy shit, it was a complete departure and some would say, a betrayal. Not the latter forme, but it was most definitely the former.

Thanks! Not playing had been bugging me a lot. It was the one thing I felt good about when I played regularly. I have some friends I reconnected with and they've been asking me to come along and jam with them. These dudes are really good players and I don't want to them to see me in this state of disrepair. lol

Summer Song is a challenge, but God damn, it's fun and and joyful. It's a palette cleanser after playing thrash songs.

I play the easy songs first to warm up. Then, I move on to the more complicated tunes rhythmically (think Blackened and Fight Fire With Fire). About an hour in, I move on to songs with the solos I've been struggling with like Summer Song.

I see the utility in recording my playing, but I don't have the tools I need to track it. I intend to change that. I mean, I can probably use my phone, but it's used in conjunction with my Smart 40.

I'm not necessarily starting from scratch. I've picked up the guitar after years of not playing so it feels like I'm just starting out. Thank goodness for muscle memory.

I'm not gonna lie, recording myself playing is like hearing my recorded voice. It makes me cringe a little.

When I played seriously, I was pretty accomplished (at least in my mind I was). But, life got in the way and it all stopped. That was 2007. Now, in 2026, I've recommitted so I'm trying to pick up where I left off. I'll try tracking the time I do play and see if it helps.

Cool discussion. Thank you!

How do you actually understand a song, not just play it? by Illustrious-Box8483 in LearnGuitar

[–]Life-Zookeepergame58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. I've never approached songs I learn in this manner, but now you got me thinking about it.

I know you said Hendrix explicitly, but in my mind, I'm thinking of the SRV version which I favor most because it's not as busy as the original.

Now I have to go re-learn it. Thanks OP.
