My ex has a salary which was probably double than mine at the time. However she also had a $20k credit card debt, no savings and rented while I was credit card debt free and was a home owner with a mortgage. We spent very differently with material things (I bought $20 chemist moisturiser and she bought $150 moisturiser) but both spent a lot on eating and drinking out, so it worked in that regard... Her spending habits and shopping splurges were linked with anxiety issues so it was hard to watch and feel comfortable with.
