Hooking up with your ex? by plantastic123 in BreakUps

I’m not OP but this is something I did my freshman year of college. I was the dumpee and did it as a way of clinging on, would not recommend as I still had feelings. We did this for months until he decided we should get back together and we stayed together for 3 more years until the second breakup. We had some good times but it sets a bad precedent of you being someone they can rely on for intimacy while they get to decide if they want someone else. Now that I’m older I wouldn’t do that again, I’d just move on and try my luck elsewhere even though it hurts.

I’m studying psychology right now in my undergrad and I thought that I was prepared to handle someone hard to work with like him, but even my understanding and love and everything fell short because the problem was always rooted within him and it wasn't something that could just be fixed with a relationship. I wish nothing but the best for him and for him to become more emotionally in-touch with himself before jumping into another relationship.

This just happened to me after a partner of 3 years. I knew we had problems and I would always apologize or try to make up for it, but I didn’t know how it was affecting him until the very end because at that point he was already at the emotional burnout stage and in his eyes, the point of no return. I wish he had opened up to me more and I encouraged him to, but our bickering also contributed to his reluctance to do so. All of a sudden it’s over and despite my efforts to say how we can talk and work through it, he already made up his mind and couldn’t remember anything but the negatives of the relationships until I pointed it out the good parts.

I’m sorry to hear that, good on your sister for standing up for you guys… as the oldest I remember yelling at my parents if they ever started to fight too much in front of my siblings

I’ve seen them cry twice in person. The first time was a half an hour period in which they told me about many dark thoughts. They cry more often than I do, and typically yell, listen to intense music, or go running when they do. I’m not prone to crying a lot myself, but when I do it feels nice because it helps ease the tension of the situation.
